Nobel Laureate Ramakrishnan Slams Amit Shah’s Argument, Condemns CAB | The Quint

In a hard-hitting interview to The Quint, Indian-origin Nobel Laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishnan has slammed the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), which was passed by Parliament late on 11 December.
Ramakrishnan, who had won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009, described the CAB as a dangerous piece of legislation that goes against the Constitution, and serves to “distract from the very hard task of making progress on education, technology and general economic advancement.”

People of Assam are not rich enough to support the cost of 1 crore 90 lakh immegrants. Imagine govt. taking your land so that houses for illegal immegrants can be built there. We already have no food. Potato Rs.50. Petrol at this moment sold at Rs.200 per liter at some places. Just imagine how hard it is for us. We cannot bear another 2 crore people in assam. If you research well then you will find that government has granted inner line permit to other neighbors of Assam so immigrants cannot enter onto them. Assam has to take this burden alone. This is the reason why we oppose citozenship bill. Updates: To stop peaceful protest, army opened fire and killed many students and injured several in Assam. Internet is shutdown so that no video footage of police and army atrocities can surface in social media. Local news media restricted from displaying protest footage. BJP is no longer allowing the voice of the protesters be heard and has imposed army rule in assam. Firing inside University campus is not acceptable at all. #nocab #assam

It endangers ethnic identity in Assam where they are supposed to settle as permanent Indian citizens, thereby creating an impact in destabilizing the indigenous communities of northeast India in a large scale. CAB is biased on religion and neglects a group of Indians in northeastern region. So it is anti-democratic, anti-indigenous and anti-minority.

As a kashmiri Pandit I was a minority in kashmir but our migration was never highlighted, when was india really ideal democracy then? Not congress not bjp, ideal democracy is a pseudo belief. There should be no special treatment for anyone on basis of religion only justice to the human lives. This issue shouldn't be looked in a religious angle. India doesn't want to grow its population by accepting refugees, we are already at risk cause of our population, I would've rather not allowed anyone being given citizenship but If it serves a purpose for those oppressed minorities then why not.
