For Nobel Prize winner Jennifer Doudna, the highlight of Nobel Week was a socially distanced award ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 8, on her patio in Berkeley with 11 people in attendance, followed by takeout. But if the glow in her face was any indication, she could have been receiving the medal and citation from the King of Sweden on the stage at Stockholm Concert Hall. The traditional celebration will have to wait until next year.
A videographer and photographer captured the intimate gathering on Dec. 8 and the presentation of the gold medal by Barbro Osher, Sweden’s Honorary Consul General in San Francisco, with Anna Sjöström Douagi representing the Nobel Foundation. Doudna, the Li Ka Shing Chancellor’s Chair in Biomedical and Health Sciences at UC Berkeley, was joined by her husband, Jamie Cate, UC Berkeley professor of molecular and cell biology, son, Andrew, and sister Ellen Doudna of Berkeley.

No ordinary scientist surely deserved the Nobel Prize. Also a modest person. We had earlier mediocre people like Inder Verma working in this discipline. The Guy is a disgusting creature. Was propped up. Is mediocre and a typical Punjabi Khatri in looks and behavior. Study him in detail. Sad for science people like him. Everyone is proud Doudna.

@Truth Hurts there are many male scientist around the world. But there aren't many female scientist who won Nobel prize. As a girl always my role models are female people. As a example my mother my sister and many other female people who done great things to the world. Role model is someone i can feel close to my heart. Because as a girl i feel more closer to female famous people than male . It's because most all of women face same things in the society. So i can resonate with them. But i don't feel closer to male famous people because they didn't face same things as women do . It's different. Always the society motivate boys when they were young to become something great. But society don't motivate girls to become something great specially in science. Society always tell girls to become more beautiful be like a lady. For what. To get married oneday. this why i always get motivated by female role models. And i think you are a boy. So do you have female role models. I don't think so. Because people always take as role models someone that resonates with them.

@Truth Hurts I do respect some male scientist. Steven Hawkins , Albert Einstein etc. But they are not my role models. I do learn things from their life. But i can't like resonate with them. Because they as a male they had a different background and as a female i have different background. When the society treat equally for women as men. Then i would be able to have male role models.

The trio Emmanuelle Charpentier, Jennifer Doudna and Virginijus Siksnys have created a revolution in science. A discovery second to none in science. Many people (such as Inder Verma a typical Punjabi in looks and behavior) spent decades to work on this research area but sadly met with no success. Also U.C. Berkeley one of the top schools in the globe has again maintained its great reputation for having brilliant scientists.

Picked up your book and really enjoyed it along with watching a show on PBS about your journey. You are truly one of the major players in this story and smart as heck. The one thing rising from your comments was the idea the rich would have access to gene editing while the rest of the population sits back in the ER or home wasting away. There were multiple cases involving children with really ugly diseases and the one resonating fact they did not have the million dollars for the therapy required. OK, you mortgage everything you own and get the treatment only to find out there are other costs during the life span of your disease. Really saddening money is the barricade to a semi-healthy lifestyle. Can we not have a way of getting folks their treatment without having monetary machinery suck them dry? Did they not go through enough in their lifetime? So sad.
