Incredible congratulations to Dr. Karikó who was demoted by Penn for not winning enough grants but persevered through their short sightedness. She is a true inspiration.

Pressure of Extramural Funding on every scientists by the institutes is indeed a “death valley” for good science and good scientists in the USA. I see it now as an alarming sign of the dark side of future good quality science in the USA.

I pray some billionaires grant millions to your institutes, to your work, to your training young scientists to extend your work for humanity. Thank you, Dr. Katalin and Dr. Drew!!! Without your prior work in mRNA vaccines, we would not have been able to develop a vaccine for COVID-19 in a mere 2 years, and have saved a countless number of lives not just in America, but across the world! These people are incredible and the timing of when they finished their work in creating mRNA vaccines was SPOT ON. Years and years of work and clinical trials, and when COVID-19 broke out into the world, they already had the tools and ideas necessary to develop a COVID vaccine in 2 years. Incredible job, guys! You deserve this Nobel Peace Prize! 🎉

For anyone who is caught up in the whole "anti"-vaccine political bid, I hope you can look up what it is really about. The proteins, the way they managed to use RNA to recode (faster than usual vaccines that requires us to wait for our body to react to a foreign thing and THEN create the same recode) is fascinating. It has saved literal millions, but I am more hopeful for the future.

Ha! So enjoyable ! Congratulations to both of you. I think that people who believe that there's something seriously wrong with you (not said as a joke, but seriously) if you are still up at 2 or 3, working on something, need a mental health checkup. One of the most hurtful or insulting things ever said to me was about the fact that I sent someone a mail or left voicemail or whatever in the middle of the night because I was working on something. I didn't expect the other person to be up but I didn't expect people to make a major fuss out of it either. They didn't accuse me of anything but they seemed to have made a major fuss about it. That's insane. I think it had something to do with physical chemistry; it was a long time ago and I've forgotten the details but the flabbergasted feelings remain. If you don't want anyone who's driven, then don't hire someone who's clearly highly driven. End of. I wish that I had simply said in response that at the time.
