I’m very proud of Mexico’s current leadership and it is very sad to see how the US cannot see themselves in any other way but as the “saviors of the world”, I really hope US leaders can focus on their people, their problems and work on making their citizens’ life better and safer.

What is utterly tragic and deeply concerning is that the world's best scientists, in developing tools THEN declaring those said tools to pose a threat to humanity, show a catastrophic belittling and dismissal of ethical considerations, but then go on to be celebrated around the world. With this type of behaviour, science runs the risk of creating mankind's biggest problems and little or no solutions.

Has kidnapping actually increased in Mexico? It’s clear that Shannon O’Neil may not live in Mexico, as the security situation can vary widely depending on the region. For instance, Mexico City is currently experiencing some of its safest conditions in recent history. It’s challenging to generalize about a country as diverse as Mexico without considering these regional differences.

Shannon K O Neil is probably one of the most hawkish people on Mexico. Total neocon/neolib a-la-David Frum. If you read her opinion articles on WSJ you’d think Mexico’s shooting itself in the foot, and asbsolutely hates the current & past administration, which definitely clouds her judgement. She’s more concerned with installing puppet politicians that would allow sacking of resources of Mexico than concerned for Mexico’s interest, its industry and its people doing well.

Theoretically any elected official “can be bought” and that’s especially true if you have a decision like Citizens United in the U.S. So not sure why investors would be worried about it in Mexico considering it’s already the case for their own Congress at home.

"There's nothing special about human beings," says a lot more about ai enthusiasts than the technology. A stochastic parroting model can not learn to use abstract reasoning, only mimic it. Being able to fool/trick/sell people into thinking ai is human or superhuman is not the same as actually doing it. LLMs can be and are useful in limited applications, but they are missing a key aspect of intelligence that quickly becomes apparent to anyone who actually tries to use them. With approximately 20% real-world accuracy, they require constant human attention and oversight in cases with ANY non-repetitive or novel aspects or context. This could be improved with further error detection technology but that would require sustained development and investment greater than is currently being budgeted. Worrying about Termintor drones misses the halucinating ai transcription service your doctor or therapist is using on your health records along and text messaging, along with the customer service bot that's between you and another lowly human.
