@WCMoss I must concede, I am tiring a little of budget accommodation...ever since I made a crucial error at a sh!thole Sth Sanur hotel (name withheld) a year or so ago....I foolishly checked the pillows!! - very bad idea! Looked like they'd found them under a bridge - years upon years of beery sweat and saliva, and ??? stains from drunken Aussies - shades ranging from grey, to brown, to black - there were even actual mould patches! As I silently held these pillows up by the corners in front of the cleaning staff, even they looked embarrassed, and like any good employee, they blamed the boss. I laughed, with them, certainly not at them. They hopped on a bike and went to, I think, Hardy's and bought 2 fresh ones for me. Prudently, I decided NOT to check the mattress.😆

Doesn't seem to be much interest in the collection of the tourist tax and I can only give my opinion from arriving at the airport and not even asked for or for proof of payment. Hi Anne. One of the great joys of traveling through Indonesia and Southeast Asia is its relative safety so you're able to relax and enjoy the experience no matter what level you choose to travel at. Of course normal safety precautions should be adhered to when here but taking local transport is usually fine to move around. Thank you.

150, 000 rupiah, dude. You can pay online before you arrive or in the airport in Denpasar as you're leaving the terminal at a counter just before you exit.
@retribution99914 күн бұрын
I paid the Tourist tax online the first time I went to Bali after it had been introduced but havent bothered since. I believe its still voluntary. id be happy to pay if I could see a massive environmental campaign in Bali but not much evidence of that. I always buy a sim card in Bali/Indonesia because wifi is usually poor.. Have to make sure the card permits hotspot because some dont. I can see youre happy to be back in Bali. Back to the incense perfumed air, smiles and friendliness of the people and easy availability of cold beer and burgers. I sense that Lombok like Java can at times be a bit hostile. Great videos of your trip to Lombok but its not for me. Id like to try Raja Ampit and Sumba.
@WCMoss14 күн бұрын
I heard recently authorities will be banning entry soon for anyone who hasn't paid the tax which might just be a bit of local sabre rattling. Having said that, if they did send a few people back home without entry the airlines may then take on the burden of enforcement much like onward tickets.
@retribution99914 күн бұрын
@@WCMoss I never saw anywhere to pay the tax at Denpasar airport and no one asked for proof of payment. I doubt very much that youre going to get sent home.
@Ghekko-kw3zz14 күн бұрын
@@WCMossway I was told it years ago is the money from the entry fee does go to some very important projects, widow & orphan support, Bhabinkamtibmas (village police). It's always great to get more cleanup & litter education campaigns going, but it's probably an error to assume the fee is misused.
@derekbooth45712 күн бұрын
@@retribution999tourist tax is not ‘voluntary’ though it’s reckoned a large percentage of tourists don’t pay so that in itself does not help in where funds get allocated for improvements but that’s another story. Was at Taman Ayun recently they have a tourist police checkpoint and yes,no checking was seen to be done. Balinese are just ‘too nice’ to check maybe 🤔

It was clear to me that you didn't feel relaxed on Lombok. I had the same feeling on Gili T. Some lovely individuals but overall there was a hardness. This was made clear by a small bar owner who described how he threatened a disgruntled customer with death and being chopped up and thrown outside the reef! He also showed me numerous knife scars from fights back on Lombok....

The tourist tax setup is just weird, I mean I don't have to pay it I live here on KITAS I'm not a tourist, but it's allegedly compulsory to pay but not only can you just walk past the desk where you are supposed to pay it at the airport it's actually really easy to just completely miss and not even see if you haven't been here before and the airport is busy with arrivals. I don't understand why the desk to pay it isn't in the arrivals hall or placed in a way you can't walk past it and have to go to it before exiting outside into the pickup area.
@WCMoss12 күн бұрын
I agree it's very easy to miss the desk and a simple booth before immigration with a big red sign would be a much better way to take payment. I think they're hoping everyone will pay it online. I don't think they've done nearly enough to make people aware of it either. Make the airlines request proof of payment before boarding and they'd see an improvement in payment numbers.
@ats-369312 күн бұрын
@WCMoss Generally I think the visa system has improved a lot over the last couple of years, the egates work for most people now, no more stamps in your passport not even for KITAS, no need to go to immigration to extend many of the various extendable visa's an agent can do it all for you without you needing to go to kantor imigrasi, but there are quite a few bugs in the new system that need to be fixed which I suppose is to be expected it's been a fairly rapid upgrade from a pretty basic manual system to a modern automated system.
