I'm probably the only person who actually recognized the Surgeon Simulator OST, and I loved the fact you included it during the final run. That game requires lots of precision to achieve the highest rank on the operations, where one mistake can force you to restart, and that's basically what this map is. Hearing those songs brought me to back to when I was playing those levels, having to keep track of all of my inputs to make sure I didn't lose any tools or accidentally cause too much blood loss. I can only imagine the same feeling playing Trackmania on these kinds of maps where one wrong input can make you fall and ruin the entire run. Really cool comparison to make between both games, even if it's not intentional!

it is though, specially on a map like this it gives you a sense of "I have mastered/am learning to master this map," the progress you make on each attempt is what makes it satisfying and the end result makes you feel like you've conquered an obstacle in your way (cuz you did :D)

@@TRJames5914 2 issues with that. 1. making a proper trigger point for it that you wouldn't hit while climbing up the tower. 2. the whole point of deep dip is to let you continue even IF you fall down. Sure you might as well reset if you fall to the bottom, but forcing it would be a bit too sour for my taste.

Suggestion: Wirtual should have both Fall counter and In the mud counter in Deep Dip 2 run. Not every fall has the same effect.

Good luck on Deep Dip man, seems like you have really high expectations, but please take care of yourself. It is easier to say than do, but know that I will enjoy watching regardless of whether you are making mistakes/first place/last place.

Maybe the best strat is to start the lower floors fast and risky, getting a good grasp on how to drive them fast and thereby being able to get to the higher floors fast and then being slow and exact and not taking any risks. So maybe embrace 'the higher you are, the less risks you want to take' :)

That question about how fast you should go is interesting, and that point about Bren staying fast so he can stay focussed is a good one. Before he said that I was thinking that the right speed is whatever allows you to stay completely focussed on the next obstacle. Staying focussed and engaged in the moment is not only good for progress but it lets you enjoy the game.

Maps such as deep dip are one big journey, with a start and a set end. You don't know how many falls it will take you to finish such a map, but each fall brings you closer to the end of the journey. Falling is progress.

on the matter of rushing vs patience: I think you gotta find a balance between the two, the perfect pace, and maybe adjust it as you progress further and further into the map on each attempt But that "optimal pace/flow" is different for EVERY player, it depends on your playstyle as a gamer and your personality as a person, your patience, your commitment, your skill level, etc etc

I love how the whole discussion on mental state when doing this kind of maps is also relevant for Ultimates in FFXIV, where you need to play flawlessly (well more or less) for a good 15-20min, and restart all the way if you fail, except that there are 7 other people with you :') And my group definitely has a "should we take risks in the early parts just to keep us on edge".
