There was also a more recent instance after Wally West came back to life where they were both racing around and Superman admitted he couldn't keep up with either of them at all, they were going way too fast for him to handle. Yeah, Superman is extremely fast and one of the most powerful heroes of all time, but the Flash is without a doubt the faster of the two. DC would be pretty horrible to take away the main claim to fame Flash has to make Superman better in that regards

In a very recent Superman comic, Lex Luthor teleported Supes to a different star system. Superman showed up a moment later and said that he's picked up a few tricks after his stint on War World, and time, space, and matter don't mean the same to him anyway. Still, DC likes their Flash to be the top speedster, so I'll assume that any speed Superman reaches, DC will have some story of Flash surpassing it. As for the Flash..... I think it was established that Wally is actually faster than Barry. The color of the lightning the various flashes generate is an indication of how close they are to the Speed Force and how fast they are. Kid Flash has red lightning, Barry's is yellow, and Wally's is blue/white. I eveb think it was explicitly stated one time that Wally was the fastest ever. Barry will ALWAYS be the iconic Flash in our hearts however.

The entire Justice League and pretty much everyone got together because if the fact that Amanda Waller told them that the two racing each other was wrecking the planet and Cyborg later on stated that not only was she right, but that things were worse than that: "Waller's telling the truth. For once. The energy they're generating is playing havoc with the very fabric of the multiverse" That was what Cyborg said word by word. Superman later tried to catch up to them and was so far behind that neither Wally or Barry even aknowledge his presence. When he got back to the others he was catching his breath after his failed atempt at catching up to them: "I couldn't I couldn't catch up to them. They're... They're going too fast." Was what Clark told the others. And even then, when Hal tried to stop them by vreating a barrier with all of his willpower poured into it, the two of them completely shattered it. Just for reference, the average Green Lantern should be able to have a planet blow in their faces and be totally fine. Jessica for example, was able to hold 1/8 of a planet with only 38% of her power output. Kyle Ryner once held the equivalent of a Big Bang on his own and Hal is the greatest of all the Lanterns when it commes to using the color green. Heck, just on the very begining of Rebirth, Hal defeated the entire Sinestro Corp on his own despite them having a power up that made each of them twice as powerful and yet, Hal barely called that a warmup. Even on the very same Flash War, we see that indeed, the race was messing with reality itself. Hawkeman said that he had never experienced winds as strong as the once that were caused by the race in all his lifetime. Swampthing said that he couls hear the green scream in pain, with Zatanna comenting that magic wasn't doing great either. Atom called the Justice League to teld them that the microverse was a mess. The power was even felt in New Genesis with Highfather himself wondering for a moment if the power came from the Source Wall itself. One of the reasons Speedsters don't have to worry about the laws of physics causing a mess all around is because of the Speedforce itself making sure thiings were ok and the fact that even that wasn't able to protect the multiverse, let alone the planet from their race says a lot. Even without that as an example, Wally, the fastest Flash of them all, once beated two alien gods in a race to the Earth and they had instant teleportation on their side. And while Wally technically had a bit of help with that one, it was one of the first times his potential was on display. And later on, it was shown that he was able to pull the same feet, alongside Barry as well, on his own with no help required. And that feat alone surpasses everything Superman has ever done in terms of speed. And as if that wasn't enough, DC themselves made an official list stating who were the top ten fastest of all and Superman was ranked forht place. With Reverse Flash, Barry and Wally all ahead of him. Not like that list was needed since it's been shown many times by now that Superman has always struggle to keep up with speedsters in terms of speed. Even going as far as one time just barely matching Jay Garick.

DC actually put out an article officially ranking the fastest speedsters in the DC Universe. Top 4 was 4. Superman, 3. Reverse Flash, 2. Barry Allen, 3. Wally West. What is interesting though is the article also stated "The Man of Steel is unmatched when flying in the air, able to arrive and save the day in the blink of an eye. But once he puts those two feet onto solid ground he can't quite crack the top three." So as far as who is faster, it just depends on one question... Is it a foot race, or just a flat out race where Supes is allowed to fly?

It always annoys me how writers completly ignore the physics of what would happen to characters travelling at such speed. The Flash has the Speed Force to counter all the negative effects of superspeed, but Superman doesn't, so he'd be creating fusion bombs in front of him and collapsing vacuums with the force of the nuclear bomb behind him. I think it’s important to also recognize that not only can Flash (in all incarnations) perceive things at higher speeds, he can act with intention at those speeds. Supes might have some moments of straight line speed that defy any real description, but Flash LIVES at speed. I feel like that is what truly sets true speedsters apart from “fast heroes”. Someone may at some point canonically travel faster, but no non-speedster will beat a speedster at doing speedster stuff. It’s not just about point A to point B, but precision, intention, tactics, and techniques, none of which “fast heroes” like Superman can match. Flash will always be able to do things with speed no one else can, and that’s part of what makes speedsters such great heroes, and so much fun.

Why do I remember Superman getting one over on the Flash in Injustice, when Darksieds son came to invade Earth, it was a massive invasion and people were dying, the Justice League was spread thin, and Superman was basically getting tired of holding back, he then stopped and went to talk with The Flash to see if he could convince him to not kill the invaders, especially since The Justice League knew that the parademons were prisoners from other planets, they were having this conversation with time pretty much stopped, but when The Flash couldn't make a convincing enough argument, Superman took off and he basically singlehandedly ended the invasion and killed Darksieds son all before The Flash could react. Perhaps I'm misremembering. But the panels of the comic are so clear in my head.

In the Trapped in the 6th Dimension Comic I think Superman plows through multiple suns in an effort to escape. Unlike the flash, his speed is biological and purely physical. The faster he would fly, he would likely generate heat and friction. Unlike the speed force, which is almost mystical at times, he can give people whiplash if he doesn’t extend his psionic aura to them and his speed can break things around him unlike those with the speed force. If he were to run against glass for example he’d break it. But Barry could dance around on it at light soeed due to the nature of speed force. Superman would never even be able to approach his top speeds without destroying the earth through sheer friction alone.

We aren't saying superman is faster, we are saying he has won a race and can see at insane speeds comparable to the flash. They know flash is the faster of the two. Also the same exact graph you speak about was the same graph that states superman faster than all flashes, godspeed and the black racer. It also states that superman is unmatched in the air. Do you know what that means according to the graph? His top speed is comparable if he flies. In comics blue marvels power would make him faster than both of these famous icons. Photons can move at lightspeed and blue marvel can control and or manipulate photons. Blue marvel should then easily be moving at lightspeed, and then put in his antimatter energy output into the mix to boost the photons movements even more so and he should then move infinitely faster to unimagined speeds. Even fast enough to time travel which in science terms is so fast that if you could travel back or forward in time then photons would be an ingredient in doing that.

In comics blue marvel can control atoms, molecules, which means he can control photons and electrons which from what I've read are made of or produce photons. The stuff that they write wally can do in comics is more logical for blue marvel to actually pull off or do since blues powers in comics are based on matter and antimatter which increases his matter based abilities. I Googled and read what photons in real life can do and I found out that if time travel were possible based on how fast scientist have stated that photons move and act, that if a superhero in comics had the power to time travel or effect space and time, blue marvel would be the main comic hero who would have the advantage and key to unlocking and using that type of power better than others who can only do that and a few other matter based super-powered things, if it was possible to time travel. Here's the thing, my thing, anyway. As i interpret their powers, Superman uses pure physical power to achieve these speeds. His other powers and abilities compensate for operating at those speeds. His perception, reaction speed, reflexes, etc. The Flash's powers are not limited to physical power. Time is a component of speed, specifically the divisor in the formula iirc. The Speed Force energy has Time energy as a component. That's why every time he touches or moves someone at speed it's not hitting them like a freight train; it's not pure physical energy pushing him. Superman overpowers and bends the rules of reality. Flash rewrites the rules. Every time Superman achieves a higher speed, The Flash can "realize" he could just go faster. If the Flash could wrap his human, mortal mind around the concept, "interstellar teleportation" is in his scope.

Yeah except the flash has plot armor to be able to use light speed on an atmospheric condition. Superman is basically just pushing the molecules out of the way like any other object moving through an atmosphere, the only problem is once an object starts moving faster and faster the air molecules start to accumulate and build upon the surface of said object. Eventually the build up is too much from the higher and higher speeds were eventually they slide down the body and escape off in the form of a sonic boom and as you go faster and faster those booms become stronger and stronger to the point that just super sonic speeds can cause structural damage to buildings and even the Earth. Then once you start going even faster those air molecules don't have enough time to slide down the body and eventually either the air molecules will prevent the object from going any faster or the object starts going through the air molecules, just ask Japan what happens when atoms split because that would happen multiple times a second as the object moves at that speed

It was stated in precrisis that Flash has a barrier over him that prevents friction rom slowing him, causing him to heat up and being detetered by any atmospheric conditions. Superman, because of his suit and his natural invulnerability is not afected by suoer speed or going into the time stream. After the crisis, Superman never flew into the time stream. I think it is presumed, via Connor Kent, Superman has a sort of tactile telekinesis, which he unknowingly uses to protect himself, as a part of his invulnerability to certain things, including super speed.

Thanks for the post. Have you ever read DC Comics Presents #1 and #2. It is a story which pits these two to a race. There was also another DC Comics Present, with the Spectre and Supergirl. The story is The Super cousins are fightig War World and Supergirl flies at her most super speed to destroy WarWorld as Superman takes on Mongul. The after math, Supergirl is hurtling across time and space, uncontroled , evetually reaching speeds and breaking through barriers to reach SUpergirl. He comes to a final barrier, which he can not cross and Spectre stops him. It is a good story. Hope you get a chance to read it. Before the Crisis event Superman was far more powerful, as well as the flash.

Barry Allen is Not the Fastest "Flash". This was confirmed during the "Flash War" in the comics. Wally West Is The Fastest Person Alive in the DC universe. While Barry Allen has been credited with creating the Speed Force, It has been Well established that Wally West "Mainlines" the Speed Force and can both steal and give speed to others and objects.
