I’m not an Indian, we did welcome to Indian friend to rent with our house area at Section 2 Shah Alam on year 2012. We made good friendship although we do drink together with Indians in especially liquors, because we are from East Malaysia and we have high tolerance to any social situations. Unlike West Malaysians, they are choosy.

I used to go out with my best friend, an Indian, when I was a teenager. We frequently go out to watch late night movies and by the time we got home, it was like 1 am. I often slept at his place with his 4 brothers in one tiny room (they were all asleep on the floor) with his eldest brother taking the only bed. I had so many great memories. I haven't seen him for decades after I went into the army. I often think about what his live is now.

Despite all the discriminations in finding jobs, renting a house or room, higher education studies etc and all the stereotyping we face in this country somehow we managed to survive all these years ever since we were mostly brought in to this country as labourers to give the best to our families in terms of food and education regardless whether we are from high, medium or low income backgrouds with no or little help from the goverment or anyone.Because of this i am proud to be an indian eventhough sometimes other races still look down on us and refer us with derogatory names (which i dont wish to mention here i think we all know them😀).

I'm Indian American Malaysian and have commented above. I live and work in both countries. The stereotypes are over a 100 years old. We have to break these stereotypes as they are racist and reinforce low expectations. Indians are doing well in many countries. The US is a genuine meritocracy so that ethnic Indians who are merely 1.2% of the population ate the other wealthiest and richest community in the substantially ahead of other agents including the Chinese and Japanese. They earn more than double the average US income across all ethnic groups including whites and Jews. According to Pew Research and the official US Census Bureau. Their success is bottom up with no affirmative action, government help, ethnocentric guanxi social networks or capital flight as the Chinese have from the connections with the CCP and the state-owned enterprises in China. US Indians use their professional knowledge base in engineering, IT, medical sciences, academics and they are entrepreneurial. It's not about top-down cronyism, nor connections.. They control 6 trillion US dollars of corporate America in the economy. Not bad for just 1.2% of the population and guess what? More than 80% were born in India meaning they are first generation Americans compared to Malaysia and Singapore where ethnic Indians are 7%. You don't find the same edge. Why? Because of inherent racism in these two countries from British colonial legacies that made the Indians look relatively backward. The British were afraid of the Muslims and the Chinese. So now in America because it's genuinely more of a meritocracy they thrive. Their mobility is based on a bottom up mechanism and knowledge and skills not about language. Many CEOs in America are ethnic Indians but they are not just CEOs the founders of startups in the United States of 34% of the startup ecosystem are unicorn businesses meaning they are valued at 1 billion US dollars are founded by ethnic Indians. Fact is most of these achievements were carried out by the older first generation Americans who were born in India. Their household income is now at USD 140,00 more than double the national average. Just like many of us we never expected any handouts nor preference by ethnicity nor religion. Indo Americans control USD 6 trillion in corporate America. Not bad for just 1.2% of the US population and being first generation Americans. fortune.com/2022/12/16/indians-taking-over-corporate-america-tech-layoffs-visas-ceos-companies-success-nitin-bajaj/ From Australia's Lowy Institute on the success of the Indian diaspora in the US. www.lowyinstitute.org/the-interpreter/remarkable-political-influence-indian-diaspora-us How Indian Americans Became Crazy Rich kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3fTd3mgeqqCZrM From Forbes : A Growing Number of Indian Americans Are Leading America's Best Business Schools www.forbes.com/sites/ronakdesai/2018/04/25/a-growing-number-of-indian-americans-are-leading-americas-best-business-schools/amp/ A groundbreaking study by Ilya Strebulaev , a Professor of Finance at Stanford University Graduate School of Business, revealed a staggering fact: Most immigrant founders of start ups in the US were born in India. Moreover the Kauffman report in the study of entrepreneurs found Indians start up 34% of Unicorn startups in Silicon Valley. www.linkedin.com/pulse/from-0-100-billion-indians-takeover-us-startups-enterslice?fbclid=IwAR0VRW6oRoWbzh9SzSImvkDJVRYqmTx0H52S8U12OXe_hu_svOSKx1BLWjM

I am an Indian. I have had three Chinese landlords who were happy to rent me their premises. The first one rented me her place because it had bad Feng Shui. After nearly two years, she brought in a Feng Shui master who declared it has acquired good Feng Shui. Then she rented it out to others for a higher price. The second was willing to consider lowering the rental when I wanted to leave. But I had to leave for other reasons. The third reduced the rental to encourage me to stay. So I stayed. Now, I found people are reluctant to rent from (not to) an Indian. Hahaha!

It's really disgusting to see how some trolls take advantage during sensitive discussions like this, to further amplify the stereotypes to perpetuate a harmful cycle of prejudice and discrimination against the Indians. They often start with something like "I'm sorry to say this, but...", and then they'll cook up a really interesting Indian tenant turning into a gangster/lawyer story and how there was a battle between good and evil, and eventually after much bloodshed, they finally got rid of the evil tenants and saved their property. They will justify the discrimination through an emotional, heart-touching narrative. The general audience really doesn't care about the authenticity of these personal experiences, because the Indians in Malaysia are already labeled accordingly. Deep dive into these stories, and you'll find most of them either exaggerated or completely fake. This doesn't mean that I'm denying that there are bad Indian tenants, but, don't you think it's much more important to recognize that individuals should be assessed based on their individual merits, such as rental history, creditworthiness, and references, rather than making assumptions based on their ethnic background? If the general notion is indeed true that all Indians are bad tenants, or gangsters, half of the population would be living on the streets. Sadly, the Indians in Malaysia, are often the victims of "selective discrimination". If it's an incident involving a non-Indian person, then it's an isolated case and does not reflect the society as a whole. However, if it's an Indian, then you can see all the keyboard warriors unifying and coming out to bash the society. It's human nature to point fingers at others as a defense mechanism to distance oneself from perceived negativity or to bolster one's own sense of moral superiority. However, my mom once told me not to try too hard to prove to others that you're a good person. No matter how good you are, you are always bad in someone's story. So, to my fellow Indian brothers and sisters, while it may be challenging to be an Indian in Malaysia, fostering positive relationships, demonstrating kindness, and maintaining integrity can contribute to building a positive reputation among those who value similar qualities. It's impossible to control how everyone perceives you, but focusing on being the best version of yourself can lead to more positive connections and a sense of personal fulfillment. Nandri. Vanakkam.

deyy... I know where you coming from, but like the guy in the video says, even Indian don't want to rent to Indian. Just like any other race, not everybody is the same, but statistically it's proven some issues are prone to happen for certain race lah. For example, the lady in the video also agreed there's a lot of issue that comes along with social drinking that happens. Not to say cina don't drink as much, but you won't want to drink with cina in a fengtao club right? One thing for sure, they all say yes i'll rent to a chinese, but as soon as they see the face very ah beng, straight cancel I tell you. Indian on the other hand, you almost need to look extra nerdy just to be trusted. sad but true. or atleast clean shaven and well dressed. I know it's very hard to do, especially clean shaven, but my pilot and doctor friends have no problems at all renting, though how they manage to keep themselves hairless all the time i dont know. Why is this point important? One stereotype they haven't touch, Indian got bad BO. I know, not all lah smelly. Though the hair plays a major role in that sense. You can close your eyes and smell each race, you know the distinct Indian smell. It's not the tidak mandi cina smell, like I said, distinct. Sometimes, our own race social construct is our own downfall. One stereotype I know malay face, if they're young and want to rent, student or so and see kurus2, people will judge drug user.

I say rent out home at Malaysia are a headaches issue. If law improve to make it easier to solved tenant issue more will inclined to rent to Indian. It just that it really if hell of a trouble both time, money and stress. My relative still facing a tenant that won`t pay rent and refuse to move out even lodge police report not help need to get court order. Imagine need to hire lawyer RM8k minimum just to start process. Then wait long time process it already near 1 years still in process. Cut off water and electric are actually illegal for owner I say that stupid. The rental RM1k but 1 need to spend around RM20k if you plus both time lose on rent and the legal fee. The tenant old Chinese man not Indian. For those see this and think they wanted to try cheat out rent should think again though this the reason why someone got beat half dead and kill once in awhile in news they push owner too far. There even some already suggest my relative should have just seek help from specialist if you know what I mean to take care of it.

most people refuse to rent to indians due to various reasons, stereotypes are formed by multiple occasions so it doesn't help much if you want to minimize it by saying they are the minority. the owners are just trying to negate risks due to previous experience or stories heard from others. since you say majority are decent then it should be no issue in proving everyone's perception is wrong but till so far this stereotypes still strongly exist show that this bad traits are on majority which totally opposite from what you're saying earlier. no point lying to oneself if things doesn't change for the better. i don't hate indians, just that i agree on what is written on that small piece of paper.

I love how open-minded the answers are but just to conclude Indians are already a minority and I know how much struggle we go through as Indians but just imagine the minority in the minority eg my family, and people surrounding me who don't drink, not loud, spiritual peoples, our marriages consider to be calm without dancing or loud music, just imagine what we have to go through as minority in the minority. we have gone through a lot, I mean a lot, don't generalize dance in our blood or yes Indians love alcohol (no we are not we are more to ahimsa) or things like that because not all Indians are the same. I hope people at least said things like not all Indians instead of "in our blood or Indians love".

Arranged marriage is not same as arranged matchmaking.Arranged marriage is when parents choose the partner & you have no option but to marry. Nowadays, is arranged matchmaking if you have chance to choose your partner. Once you choose your partner, you go on some dates to know them better. I know a girl dated the guy for two years after matchmaking. My aunt had gone through at least 10 proposals before settling for one. Some people who had love marriages are separated now, divorce as well. That Indian guy who said he likes dating non- Indians because he likes exotic flavours. Women are not bunch of meat for you try or to have fun.

I am in my 20's, I have a huge circle of indian friends, my greatest and most respected teacher in high school is indian, my spiritual leaders are indians, my financial advisor is also an indian. The only aspect i have issues with indians are within the renting market. I have rented out my properties to indians, but time and time again, i face issues with late payments and at most times, they have lots of excuses and withhold payment for months. The indian tenant excuses ranges from funeral to sickness to me not fixing a water tap leak.. even after fixing, still did not make payments. I have never faced much issues with Chinese and Malays on rental payment. Except for one Chinese so called Datuk. All in all, i must say, my experiences has caused me to not wanting to rent out to indians in future. Its a sad truth that the few bad apples ruined the reputation of indians. But i rather have a headache free life. So i rather not rent to any indians, except if i know them personally.

But if we look at the oldies of Kg and estate Indians...they live like no racist issues... Infact all races like kaape kawan only... Wen modernisation came things started to change... Things can obviously can seen in Thaipusam or Thiruvilla... Neway Label is something we can't do anything even if majority Indians no drink n so on...the label will still continue and become the mindset...but if things changed we will have reasons and proof to show... Back to Indian dont appreciate, they juz don't say out and it happen in some ego problems.. Like thinking he is younger than me.. he the one shud praise me n me come down....U meet Indians and U talk in English but they prefer in Mother Tongue so they hard mingle... Bout renting hse, as owner mindset they need tenant who don't make problems at hse... 1. House clean If the tenant keep the rent room or hse like thier own, owners will have less maintenance cost and repair works.. 2. If the house is very noisy and neighbours report to police...the bad name owner will get somehow.. So hse owners normally they dowan the problem is less... But saying all Indians are same but Indians who alwiz become famous wen they do crazy things...

You can classify Indians 2 categories 1) The Professionals. Most of them are well educated and in High Ranking job fields like Lawyers, Doctors, Managers, Engineers, etc. 2) The Illiterate ones. Mostly are the labourers or low grade jobs. So if you are buying a costly house, and an Indian is there, don't worry. They are highly reputed. On the other hand, if you want to shift to low cost area housing schemes, and Indians are there, than you have to think twice. Indians have 2 status only in this country. Either they are extremely good, or bad.Means, It's either black, or white. Very difficult or rare to spot the "gray area" of Indians

Not all Indians are heavy drinkers. I won’t discriminate to rent out my house. I’m an Indian and quite particular about cleanliness so cleanliness and good hygiene would be the only requirement. We had Indian tenant and was not happy when he vacated our house. We gave them clean, painted as well with beautiful kitchen cabinets yet this family was not up to our standard. No courtesy to clean the house and bathrooms before vacating. 😢 can’t accept unethical people like this. Did not pay electricity bills for almost 6 months and left all this for us to pay and ignored our messages and calls! Also damaged the store room doors and upstairs walls almost black in colour. We had to hire someone to clean and repaint the whole house. I believe in KARMA 🤞

I get that its so cool and matured to be able to laugh at one self.but sorry to say the stereotypes in M'sia are old and racist. Im Indian Malaysian American and live in both countries. Indians are doing very well in most orher countries. In the US they are the richest and most educated segrnent across sll groups including Jees abd Whites according to Pew Research and official US Census Bureau data. Most are from South India. So it's quite unfunny and sad to see these stereotypes and memes persist in M'sia. Kudos to these Indian M'sians for their honesty and good natured candor.
