A lot of games do this. Take Red Dead Redemption 2 for example, Arthur is being shot left and right but all he has to do to regain health is to down a little bottle of painkillers. Or he’ll regain stamina by doing a bit of cocaine. Like yeah he’s still shot but at least he doesn’t feel the pain I guess.

The title reminds me of the phrase "the lights are on, but nobody's home" referring to someone who is alive and functioning but out of it completely. So this seems to be a metaphorical story about the struggles of drug and alcohol addiction.

My interpretation: Everybody's dead and that's why nobody's home. The person in the shower, guy in the trunk, and you were already dead but they don't know it. Main character overdosed in bed, guy in trunk was locked there as a prank and died inside because no one could let him out (remember, he says he doesn't know how long he's been there and he conveniently disappears when you can let him out). There's a hole in the front windshield, implying that the driver crashed through the house and got thrown out the windshield and died. And wouldn't you know it, the driver is dead in the pool. Person in shower disappears if you go back upstairs, but a dead body wearing a dress shirt, pants, and shoes is found outside. When you find the body and the police show up, you're no where to be found... Because they can't see you. The zombies are the dead partygoers (they're wearing party sunglasses). Someone at the party killed everyone and put their bodies in the room underneathe the storage. That's why the storage is so bloody and why the horde is down there but the house almost empty of bodies. The killer then shot themselves in the head ('zombie' who murdered everyone ended up in the srorage room with the top part of their head missing). The reason why they're zombies is because they're mindless brain dead people who do nothing but drink and party. When you go downstairs to confront the horde, they ask you to "join them in consuming." This represents the main character's acheles heel. The MC is a party animal who is tempted to drink and party by others and by confronting these "zombies" they consume you before help can come. This already happened to you once before and that's why you're dead. :(

Good assessment. However, in the ending where the "zombie" killer goes to the "dead end" - that is, the body on the bridge or staircase - he turns back into a human. He realizes what he's done, and that it's not a good place to be. "This must be nobody's home." In other words, "This isn't a way to live. Nobody should call this existence a home... It's desolate, lonely, and dead."

But yeah, your theory would make sense why the killer's scalp is missing and revealing his brain before he killed everyone... Like he's completely lost his mind. But with what you said, maybe this isn't just about the MC getting redemption and moving on in death... Maybe the killer can move on when they go from being a "monster" to realizing what they've done and turning "human" again.

Okay from the notes the call and all other things I can assume that the MC is dead. Died of a overdose in the bed. The rest of the party was killed by the drug dealer high on his own drugs who went nuts and murdered everyone and stored thier bodies in the basement freezer. All the victims were the zombies. The dealer then shot himself when he heard the sirens from the cops Shower girl died jumping from the second story window to escape. Trunk guy was passed out and got put into the trunk as a prank but then the massacre happened and he suffocated. Pool corpse was the car driver but died trying to escape and forgot to put the car in reverse. The call was likely either the last good memory the MC had before dying or a beyond the grave message to a person to try and comfort themselves as they die. Also it's not mentioned but I think when the mc ODed some of the parties set up the camera to make a party sex tape with the passed out drunk girl which is real disturbing

Lot to do in such a short RPG. I agree with that OD interpretation, it's why we're waking up alone in that bed. The girl partied too hard, went upstairs to sleep, and died because no one was paying attention to her. Tying your ammo to your healing items is pretty clever, and I feel it works best in a short game like this as that idea could get tedious if implemented in a longer RPG.

TL;DR I think the “essences” represent two states that may occur after trauma. The “Trembling essence” is the feeling of weakness and fear that might plague someone after a traumatic event followed by the want to crush that feeling by getting back at the thing or person that hurt you in the first place, ending with the failure to carry out that vengeance consuming you and leaving you to tremble against your own “weakness” (I gathered this from seeing how you “feed” the trembling essence with cigarettes constantly trying to get something out of it but only giving the essence strength, and when you see the thing that caused your pain, the zombie, you can’t do anything because it doesn’t exists anymore and you can only interact with it through the lens of your trauma ending with you being unable to stop feeding your trauma and becoming crippled by it while the arbiter of your torment moves on/ the zombie leaves the house) The “uneasy essence” is the awkward and anti-climactic feeling of moving past your trauma and getting better with the use of cleansing, you feel uneasy and unsure that it’ll work but you do and take that step towards recovery (I gathered this from the way your perpetrator, under this new lens, gives you the option to do something other than just stagnate and rot, he still tells you that there’s no future for you down the path you’re walking but there is one if you take time to heal, and obviously the “cleansing” part is the toilet) it explains why the “essences” don’t feel right to hold onto and need another outlet to function at all, it’s hard to deal with feeling like that alone and letting them bubble up/holding on to them doesn’t feel “right” in any sense of the word so they need an outlet or vessel to be dealt with properly.

I also think the “house” is actually hell itself, filled with death, rape(?) and traps. It’s why the glass covers everything in the house, why there’s levers (idk I guess this is the DOOM version of hell) and why it’s “nobody’s home” because there’s no physical people alive/living there and nobody owns it, it’s not a place of solitude or shelter or rest of healing so it can’t be a home in the metaphorical sense

Did anyone notice that the corpse at the end is wearing the same clothes as the one you collect for the person in the bath? I wonder if those two are the same. Judging from the bedroom there was obviously some kind of sex play, and the person in bath mentioned the "stuff's" which is probably sperm. This might suggest the person in bath is actually a woman, and she somehow died while trying to escape from the party.

_Bill & Ted's Not-So-Excellent Adventure_ A cautionary tale about partying too much I guess. Except that empty beer bottles & cans become cool weapons & cigarette butts serve as currency in the afterlife, so maybe that's the best way to go? The true ending with the call was a little sad. I liked the concept, but I wish the notes about the Bagman were a little more clear & the story itself a little more clear. But I enjoyed the mechanics of injury/heal with booze. Thanks for showing all endings as always!

So someone broke in to the house and threw a rager. At some point, things got out of hand and something bad happened. You are playing as one of the murdered house guests. The game is kind of vague on how it happened, as it offers multiple angles. The two souls talk about how the location is a bad place, for whatever reason that appears to be true. Is it possible it's just on an evil location or something? Then with the zombie vision, the game talks about a bagman, which can be slang for someone under the employ of a criminal. They mention drugs, so perhaps the same person who broke in to the house had access to some sort of drugs that cause someone to go insane and kill the other party guests? Then there's the basement, with the freezer with a secret passage that leads to a much larger room, behind of which we have to assume is the bodies of all the other guests. Are they all related? Are they all just unrelated things that all happened at the same location? What happened to the souls of the other guests? I don't personally believe there's actually any zombies, I think that you play as a lost soul wandering around the house, everything there is taking place on another plain of existence, no one sees the monsters besides us. Because I believe this takes place in the same universe No Delivery and Sorry We're Open are in, I kind of hope Oates is building like this weird RPG Maker cinematic universe in which, at some point he releases a game that ties everything together and explains it all.

Dreams are generally like that. In this case, the girl's likely to be dead. This is not a game for logic that applies in the "awake" world, you have to interpret it with dream logic; _including_ the dark nightmare parts of it. It's not a world of "real life" logic.

What if the guy we talked to the end is the one that gave the party people the "drug" that it's describe in the notes sticked up to the walls and also who recorded everything (Because he wanted to see the effects of the drug, just that everything got out of control and ended in a massacre) that's why he said that is probably the last time he would talk normally to someone, cuz he would never be the same after this, or his going to get caught and taken to prison, or he's going to commit suicide.

I think what’s going here is that everyone is dead, obviously. The house was apparently either not the partystarter’s house, it’s either old or abandoned, or it could be a regular house but someone broke in while the party was happening. The kids were drinking and doing drugs, real powerful stuff apparently since the Bagman probably popped by and sold his stuff. They all were partying hard until a massacre happened, where one dude just killed everyone and no one knew what was going on. Our killer could either have just been someone at the party or the burglar.The killer just kept going and stuffed the bodies in the storage room, hence the “group of faces”. However, they couldn’t handle the actions they’ve committed, so they took their own life. They don’t think anyone should live this kind of life, killing themselves with addictives or awful crimes. Where this should be “nobody’s home” no one should live like this. The house acts as a last place for the dead. The shower guy, the trunk guy, the essences, they’re all people who’ve died but can’t come to terms with it yet. Like, the trunk guy doesn’t know how long he’s been there, the shower guy even says “My clothes aren’t there anymore huh?” as if they’ve been whisked away. The essences may have been Bagman, or victims of Bagman’s powerful add-ons, so they live on with their addiction. They know what happened, they’ve seen it all. They can relive the killer’s past and show him what’s he done. Our MC is dead as well, where the phone convo is her talking. She can’t handle the idea of being dead, but somehow is fine seeing zombies and hands. These are also souls who don’t want to part yet, however our MC’s will could be powerful enough to still interact with reality. She wants to live, to keep living, do anything to believe she’s living, but she knows the truth. She knows that she, and everyone else, isn’t here, not at home. Nobody’s home.
