@@problemchild1976 so you are victim blaming by self preservation. Cool that’s even worse Actually no, it wont help because there was no time. But hey, you think that everyone rides like valentino rossi. That’s funny. And he could use the right hand to push the handlebar to the left, but no matter how much he does that, the collision will happen. So yes, you are victim blaming. @gnarthdarkanen74643 жыл бұрын
Riding is only risky when you start lying to yourself about your skills and taking unnecessary risks for foolish antics... If you get the coaching and do your practice drills regularly, it's not much more dangerous than driving a car... and you CAN get killed outright doing that, too. Your defense/protection comes in 3 forms... 1st, you have your "Road Strategy" which involves where exactly you spend your time in lanes, and how you treat the rest of traffic... It's everything from keeping your space buffers AND visibility to picking when to pass someone or hanging back to watch a little longer... 2nd, you use riding SKILLS, and these are imperative. There's a learning curve to both the Skills and Strategy for traffic from whatever driving you've done, and you NEED to practice because some of this sh*t is counter-intuitive to what you'd expect... AND it's damn difficult to pry your eyes off the thing about to kill you and focus on where you NEED to go to avoid it, but if you keep looking at the truck, you're GOING TO HIT THE TRUCK... 3rd, and finally, GEAR... AND don't blithely cheap out on gear. Good gear will save your life. Bad gear not only won't do sh*t to help you, but will inspire you with the confidence of having good gear, so it's even WORSE than wearing no gear at all... It doesn't mean blow 6000 bucks on the top shelf racing suit... Don't. JUST don't save a dollar getting that cheap-o knock off instead of a decent, recommended jacket or helmet on RevZilla, either... Gear's an ongoing collection... The stuff wears out, so balance your risk assessment, BUT remember, this is what you're paying to BET YOUR LIFE ON if you do fall... on the highway... at 80 mph (legal-ish)... BUT you keep up on practicing, researching, and getting coached on the skills and road strategy... You'll steadily DECREASE your risks riding a motorcycle, no matter what brand, type, size, shape, or any of the mods on the bike... Look, man... I'm not here to preach you into it. If you go, you go... If not, it's just as well, and no skin off my ass. I just kinda hate these jack-asses who so clearly have NO IDEA what the f*** they're doing, scare someone away from a sport that I'd rather play than BREATHE!!! I've only been riding about 30 years, give or take, and it NEVER gets boring or old... I've got my preferences, but there's never been a bike that put me off riding... Little bikes are fun because you can whip them like rented mules and still get a decent time (often embarrassing the squids on liter-bikes) and big bikes are just AWESOME the same way it would be awesome to strap yourself to a comet on its way around the Sun... Finally, I'll refer you to Randy Mamola... 13 years in the pro's (MotoGP Racing) winning championships in BOTH 250 and 500cc classes... Hall of Fame... NOT EVEN ONE SINGLE SERIOUS ACCIDENT... NOT EVEN ONE SERIOUS INJURY... {yeah, you can google him or look at his wiki} SO don't blame the sport, and don't blame the bikes... BLAME THE RIDERS... ;o)

Sure there's a degree of risk like most vehicles on roadways but if you ever need to thread a needle to get out of a crash a motorcycle will save your life/limbs. You have to laugh at these guys lane splitting to the front of the traffic at a light to only wipe out on the corner. They only lost time and are put further back than when they started.
@g-moneyrides83413 жыл бұрын
He didn't crash because he lane split though. So what does lane splitting have to do with anything in that video?? Lane splitting a lot of the time isn't about saving time it's about safety. Riders don't want to sit behind cars at traffic lights and get smashed from behind and destroyed in between 2 vehicles.

@@g-moneyrides8341 I guess you didn't read the whole comment.. I said he got to the front to only wipe-out and go back to the end of the line. Meaning sometimes rushing gets you nowhere.

Yup... Almost everybody beats the SH*T out of the first one... Cheap, small, and USED should be the paramount qualities... You don't want to get timid about dropping it when you've already got too much on your mind trying to learn... You CAN'T ride when you're intimidated... AND you WILL do some "noob' stupid" levels of sh*t... I don't know anyone who didn't... I've known MANY long-term bikers (like 20 years +) and only maybe 2 never dropped a bike... out of literal thousands (I used to work biker bars and roadhouses)... If you're lucky and diligent about maintenance... with a few repairs, you can either cut your losses when you "graduate up" from your starter in a resale, or even make a little money if you can wheel and deal well... If luck just ain't with you, at least you haven't lost a literal student loan worth of money for a bike you can't even sell... ;o)
@hyperlink31133 жыл бұрын
@@gnarthdarkanen7464 Yes you don't want to be intimidated but I believe confidence has a direct correlation with what bike you can start on or end up riding. A 100hp bike may be the end of the road for some(most) who aren't confident in themselves.
@gnarthdarkanen74643 жыл бұрын
@@hyperlink3113 Most authentically experienced and coached riders agree that "little bikes" are great for "whipping like rented mules" and bigger bikes are fun (when you can handle them of course) for being like lashing yourself to a comet on its course around the sun... Confidence is mostly built with skill, so long as it's not fraudulently turned into overconfidence... Anybody can get to ride decently on just about any motorcycle... It's a matter of techniques. Highly recommend Jerry Palladino's channel for a video or two... He's mostly pushing sales on his "Ride Like a Pro" course... BUT he regularly puts terrified 90-100 pound girls on 800 pound and larger cruisers... AND coaches them to ride well, including swerves and leans... Riding don't take power. It's not about man-handling. It's ALL grace and finesse with controls that are analogues, not just on or off... Think of it like dancing, and you can pick whatever partner you really want to dance with... BUT if you suck at riding slow, you're only going to be worse when you go faster. AND if you suck at riding small or medium sized bikes, you're not going to get better for riding bigger ones... There's maybe some nuance for truly tall and remarkably short people... BUT for the most part, I stick by both of those sentiments... ;o)

When I started riding 35+ years ago, I absolutely loved it and rode everywhere all the time. But…then I moved to MA and absolutely hated it because of city traffic and bad drivers. Now, 90%+ of all drivers are looking at their phones when they are driving, or otherwise not paying attention, and riding is just miserable a lot of the time. If you get the right bike for you, and live in a place where you can enjoy riding the way you want, it can still be a lot of fun. Riding in the concrete jungle is not for me. Also, road quality in many places is total garbage and there is a lot of sand, debris, and other things that will wash your front tire out.

As long as you aren't reckless and irresponsible like 95% of the people in these clips, then why not? :) Sure, it's not as safe as driving a car. But seriously, almost everyone in these videos drive like idiots and rely on poor judgement... Then it's not riding in itself which is the danger, it's who's on the bike.
@boywonder6683 жыл бұрын
@@DracoRemixer that’s actually one of my good skills, is good judgement. I’m very observant and stuff, and I’m almost too responsible on the road or with anything(it gets annoying). I’ll have to look into it more, I live in a tourist type area, but there’s not too many people
@DracoRemixer3 жыл бұрын
@@boywonder668 I'm the same with being responsible on the road, and other drivers might find that annoying but that's part of the fun for me. Just remember that it's important to relax while driving. It's easy to, especially in the beginning, be very focused on your close surroundings, get overloaded with impressions and get stressed. This might in turn make you unable to make those split-second decisions that you will face, as you might either focus on the wrong thing or panic. But this is something you get better at with time as your experience grows - practice makes perfect. :)
