Nobody on this planet could play Scarlet O’Hara as great as Vivian Leigh. A master of her craft. Much respect and thanks for all the performances that live on.

Poor Vivien. I don't think her mental health was helped at all being married to Olivier who was more homosexual than bisexual. There were many times when Vivien wanted intimacy, and she couldn't get it from him. He was of with Danny Kaye, or was it Tyron Power, probably both. Olivier went for a good couple of years without ever touching Vivien. What a great pity that all the performing arts, whether music, theatre, or film, seem to attract people from very sad or troubled backgrounds with all sorts of plaguing issues. It saddens me greatly to think they have all the money in the world, all the fame in the world, all the talent and all the beauty they could ever ask for, yet they are not happy. There is very seldom a "happy ever after ", for them. Vivien Leigh was a superb actress, and I loved her a ton. Marlon Brando the arse hole said when he was filming "A streetcar named Desire" with Vivien, that he would have given her a "tumble" had it not been for his respect for Olivier. Oh, how big of him. Brando always made me sick. Could he not see that she vulnerable and unwell??? Rest in Peace dear Vivien Leigh. A sweet beautiful and kind mega talent. Thank you for this video.

Sad story. I fell in love with her in Gone With the Wind on just one frame. She did the sexyest thing I every saw on camera. She raised herr right eyebrow she looked so gorgeouus. and when she did that look with the eyebrow it hit me like a tone of bricks. I will never forget that look. She was an icredible talent and actress. I just wish her life could have been happier.

Who ever said Olivier would have been better than Leslie Howard needs to get her head examined never liked OLIVIER he thought he was better than any other actor there u have it❤

Right?? I thought Leslie Howard was perfect for the part. How sad that he was killed in the war soon after. 😢

At time of filming GWTW, Howard was 47, playing a character that aged between 21 and 31. A good actor, but he looked every one of his 47 years. Ridiculous casting. However, I do agree on Lawrence Olivier. Never liked him as an actor. I'm always aware that he is acting a part. He never, ever draws me into the character.

@pangorban1 I for one am completely shocked that Howard was 47. He looked every bit of 30 to me!! Wow! What a good looking man. I thought he was perfect for the role.

Olivier would have made a better Ashley than Leslie Howard, who didn’t stir anything in this teenage girl. He was certainly handsomer than Howard.
@lemorab12 күн бұрын
I have always thought that Gary Cooper would've made the best Ashley Wilkes, even though he, like Howard, was too old for the part. (Cooper photographed younger on screen.) I would've been able to understand how Scarlett was so fixated on Ashley that she couldn't see Rhett Butler was the right man for her. Gary Cooper could have blocked some of Gable's light and charisma, making Scarlett's myopia more plausible. Leslie Howard did nothing for this teenage girl when I first saw "Gone With The Wind" at 13 years old. Leslie Howard was about 15 years too old to play Ashley and he knew it. David O. Selznick wanted him to do it as part of the deal where Howard would star in "Intermezzo," a snooze fest whose only redeeming feature was the introduction of Ingrid Bergman to the American movie audience. At least, this is the official story. Howard must have really, really wanted to do "Intermezzo."

Randolph Scott might have been good. His Southern accent was real, too.
@lemorab1Күн бұрын
@@fabrisseterbrugghe8567 Wow! You're right! Randolph Scott would've been good as Ashley. Born in 1898, he was also too old for the part, but like Cooper, he photographed much younger. Another good Ashley would've been Joel McCrea. Born in 1905, McCrea was 34-35 years old when filming began.

I think it was (at least in part) intentional that Leslie Howard was NOT a heart throb…pushing the viewer toward wanting Scarlett and Rhett to succeed in their relationship.
@ingeabrahamsen46847 сағат бұрын
@@lemorab1Its true, Lesley Howard was to old for the role, but had he been a younger man he would have been just right. Blond, refined, dreamy eyed, idealistic and intellectual. I can't really think of other Hollywood actors at that time, who had those qualities. But to day, Aaron Taylor-johnson (who played a wonderful count Vronsky in Anna Karenina) would have been a perfect Ashley Wilkes.

The usual slapped together mish-mash. No organization or planned structure. Just throw together some words, and the same with pictures. The only interest in timing is filling it -- not order. And when they've decided they have filled the time, the show ends. This just stops, as if the tape ran out. Oh well. At least it said the right things before it ran out.
