Something people SHOULD be aware of, even more so after the Grenfell tower tragedy is the back of Fridges/Fridgefreezers/Chest freezers should be vacuumed regularly as the build-up of dust and fluff is a fire hazard. Having worked in a charity shop a few years ago I prevented one breaking out. An under bench fridge was smoking at the back forcing me to extinguish it. Same applies to T.V. vents. #nobodytoldme!
@Kubulek176 жыл бұрын
Who has vents on their tv anymore? Aren't most tvs the paper thin panels now.
@Flamboyant-randomist6 жыл бұрын
TheCrayCrayGirl a lot of flatscreens actually still do. Usually at the back on top and the sides. Maybe not the kind you describe, but the ones I've owned in last three years have.
@BM-jy6cb3 жыл бұрын
You are so right. Not just built-in fridges but those American style ones too. I think it's a thing to have forced cooling of the heat exchanger these days - probably to get the efficiency rating up, but this efficiency goes down the toilet within a couple of months as the rats-nest heat exchanger gets covered in fluff and is impossible to clean without an air compressor to blow it out. As it is buried behind panels, I suspect very few are ever cleaned and are a tinderbox as well as trashing the efficiency of the fridge.

My bedroom had one single plug socket with a double adapter in it. Within this arrangement I managed to run a tv, stereo system, ZX spectrum, tape recorder, 3 bar electric fire and electronic keyboard. I was constantly fitting wires for two things into 1 plug or just forcing them into the socket with the double adapter. Blew the circuits for ours and next doors on at least 3 occasions. Lucky I didn’t kill us all.

Ah, wiring a plug. We always had one plug too few in the house, and I remember from the age of about 11 being asked to take the plug off the iron and put it on the washing machine or whatever. And you never used s screwdriver, always a knife out of the drawer. When the fixed plugs came in, wasn't so much fun, for some reason. And do people still use chip pans? I thought they'd gone the way of boil washing socks on the stove. I tried to explain what chip pans were to my American wife, and she just looked bewildered and asked why we didn't have electric deep-fat fryers.

When I was about 10 in the mid 70's I lit a match to peer under my bed. There was a whomph! and a sheet of blue flame flashed across the entire underside identical to a gas flame igniting. It was so fast it blew itself out. The underside of the base of the bed (1971 vintage) was a rough hessian type material evidentially with no fire retardant back in the day. Funny thing is, I just thought "phew - that was a close shave", but needless to say, was absolutely paranoid about safety when I had my own kids.

what I am getting from this film is that if you are middle class you don't need to worry about chip pans catching fire because you not a commoner. If you are a commoner and have a chip pan burning in your kitchen with your kid near be careful not to get carried away with the patronising voice over telling you are a bad mother. ~Trooper

3:15 - Um, how is reducing the oil level in the chip pan going to make it less likely to catch fire? It does reduce the total fuel load, true, but as far as the fire starting in the first place goes, the reduced thermal mass would, if anything, make the oil heat to autoignition temperature _faster._
