“Seems like he wants to die” that’s actually Bruce’s whole mind set in the movie. He’s reckless and angry, if he gets hurt it doesn’t matter to him.
@nattteo2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, he's super edgy the whole film, but I don't think this theme really hit home because we never actually see him get hurt. Like I get the movie is trying to be like "he's hurting on the inside" but my man is tanking bullets left and right like he's superman, and despite all the things that happen to him in the film, he basically just shakes it all off like it's nothing. It's hard to have this theme of self destruction if it isn't really shown. I think you could even apply this on a more emotional scale. Like he's clearly very depressed and having trouble emotionally, but we don't see his behavior affecting his relationships really. By the end of the movie he's "got the girl" and everything seems to be on the up and up, but that's not because he changed anything about himself.... it just, you know, happened XD
@RedX352 жыл бұрын
@@nattteo I hear you, definitely agree w what you’re saying. I think we do get small bits and pieces of that in the film, although it’s very subtle. Like when we see Bruce in the bat cave and his back is all scarred and bruised, or when he retaliates against Alfred like an angsty teen saying “you’re not my father”. Maybe if we saw more of these repercussions it could’ve hit that idea home a little harder. I personally enjoyed the subtleties of the film and what it had to offer, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing more of Bruce’s character in this aspect as well.

There are also quite a lot of full CG shot or big augmentation to the original plate (adding rain, traffic, etc...), the explosion shot on location was much smaller and was augmented later on. It's not amazing because they hardly used any CGI, it's amazing because it was really well thought out and really well shot in conjunction with the stunt team, VFX team and cinematography.

He literally didn’t have the strength to pull himself up while hanging, or stand when Catwoman was attacked. So he needed a little boost. We're so used to seeing Batman already knowing everything, knowing every corner and street of Gotham like for Christian Bale and Ben Affleck. Their Batmans were masters already. A lot of people get so weird about long runtimes in certain movies but I think this one is a clear example of why that can be a good thing; shots are held for longer periods than in other movies, especially without dialogue, but that isn't a useless device - it helps to communicate things subtly, build tension, atmosphere, blah blah, but it can also really help an audience to digest what they're seeing as things play out. And then especially if that slow pace switches to something really fast-paced - like the car chase scene - it REALLY feels like a change in pace, which just adds to the effect.

He's supposed to be realistic/ inexperienced (hence the crappy wing suit) but then he crashes full speed into a moving truck, bounces of a bridge and rolls away with next to no damage! Even Nolan's batman had bruises!! Another scene where there are no consequences? Well he chases down the Penguin even though he already knows where he lives, which results in a massive explosive crash, he 'catches' the Penguin and then let's him GOOOO!!! the "serum" is just adrenaline, i think. And he cut the cord because with the water rising, it would have eventually touched the surface and electrocuted everyone in the water. So while it shocked him cutting it, he did it to save everyone else. A lot of his "weakness" is willingness to take hits. He's reckless and doesn't care if he dies. He has a lack of fear that ironically makes him a worse fighter-- not unlike The Dark Knight Rises. He only has a vague idea of what he wants to do, and is primarily motivated by anger and vengeance, and that's exactly what everyone sees him as, including the people he's trying to help. Hence the guy in the beginning begging him not to hurt him, and his reaction to the Riddler's follower saying "I'm Vengeance." That's when he realizes what he really is, and what he's done wrong.

Honestly I love this Batman. It feels like it's straight out of a Batman comic when I watch the intro, how dark and gloomy it is, how it's crime invested. And I love how they explain how the Bat signal works. When the signal is up on the sky, it's not only to call upon the Batman. But also to warn criminals that Batman is on the prowl. One of the main weapons Batman use is fear. He can't be at a lot of places at once so that's how the signal came to place. It would warn them and make them fear the dark where you know he resides. They would be filled with fear, as shown from the criminal slowly backing up while looking at the shadows. Because they don't want to face him. And don't get me started on the soundtrack. It's just AMAZING. When Batman was getting out of his car with the fire behind him, slowly approaching Penguin. The sound of his heavy boots hitting the ground paired with the music is just unreal. People also need to remember that this Battinson is early years Batman. He's only taken the cape for 2 years. He is a very inexperienced Batman out of all the others and his case is still mostly about solving crime, and also remember that Batman essentially is a detective comic, not really the flashy sort of hero. He is still getting used to stuff, as you can see the way he struck his landings is still very much amateur-ish move, not at all graceful with it. The people of Gotham are also still confused if he's the bad guy or not, as you can see when he saved that man in the beginning, he pleaded "Please don't hurt me". Gotham has not trust him yet. He has also not taken his Bruce Wayne playboy persona. He is still very much grief ridden. This is more Batman than Bruce Wayne and I love it. + This movie just adds a lot of subtle stuff that I love. Like how Batman used black eye makeup blend his face with his mask. It's just so cool

@jackierosas95932 жыл бұрын
I agree. Once the reporter was mentioned, I thought Riddler was his son. It would’ve been really cool thematically. We see varying degrees of wronged children and orphans with Falcone as the center. Selina’s quest for vengeance for her mother, and how she ultimately decides not to kill Falcone. Bruce’s overall anger and guilt from his parents’ deaths and what his father did to cover his ass and Martha’s. Whereas Riddler ends up killing Falcone and targeting those he felt wronged him. It’d be even more personal if he was the reporter’s son, showing how Batman and Riddler are two sides of the same coin in a way.

They already confirmed joker isn't going to be the main villain in the next movie, I'm hoping for killer croc since the whole city is flooded
@breelee87792 жыл бұрын
Right!!? Like, if they do end up making another Batman vs Joker movie it should, at the very least, be the Death in the Family arc. Like, that's by far (for me) the Joker at his cruelest, and it would show what an actual monster he is. I'm so tired of the "sympathetic" Jokers. BUT, to get to that they would need to introduce Dick Grayson and then Jason Todd. And I'm scared af that they would either stole Jason's whole backstory (like they did in Batman Beyond giving it to Tim, and with "Cass" in BOP or in the Snyderverse where the Robin that Joker killed was aparently Dick?) and give it to Dick or just....completely ruin him. Or erase him. So.....
@breelee87792 жыл бұрын
@@dreithen8693 Good point about the flooded city; many wouldn't notice some people just *vanishing* until half eaten remains start to pop up (if they go with the man-eater angle). Croc would be an awesome villain. But also, Poison Ivy? Ecoterrorism? With how things are currently in the world, that would be a very good topic to touch!

In regards to the romance between Bruce and Selina, I first thought it seemed rush but then when I thought about it again, it makes sense. Not only is Selina the only one really making the moves as it's the type of person she is (flirty, risque, forward) while Bruce simply follows her romantic leads, but Bruce himself doesn't have a lot of practice with socialization given he became a recluse following his parents death. He latches onto emotional attachments quicker than the average person.

I love Barry Keoghan's Joker but I do believe he is a bit over done. I hope they hold off on him and maybe just keep doing little illusions to him to maybe bring him out later in the series.

When I watched it on opening night I laughed out loud a lot. I got the vibe that everyone in the theater with me was scared to laugh but I was like GUYS THAT WAS A JOKE it’s ok to laugh! The humor are so good and so well placed, this film is just expertly crafted overall.

Gonna be honest, this is the only batman movie I've sat through first go and wanted a sequeal to. I've seen all the others and they're still good, I'm just tired of hearing the same story of the perfect Batman. I think I liked this because it showed his inexperience, it showed him heavily messing up. He's still rich enough to get strong ass armor yet his inventions still malfunction on him. He's showing signs of being a great detective who could do the cops work for them, but his focus is still unrefined (which is *chef kiss* because being a vigilante isn't a perfect artform and trying to find his stride along the way is just cool to see as opposed to ninja dark shadow man). His social awkwardness is also fucking hilarious because I relate to that and can say it's pretty accurate. And it focusing on the Riddler was pretty fun, I was heavily uncomfortable through some of it which is a good thing because the mind games the Riddler's playing is genuinely fucked up - as well as some decent jokes. Batman then using morphine/adrenaline to numb out the pain he nearly passed out from to give him that kick back up, just for him to lose his collective shit and batter the hell out that guy was great. It showed he's still very much in his vengence stage, and needing to learn better. The moment he looks at the beaten face and everyones reactions to it. Then him actually figuring out just fear and brutality alone isn't gonna cut it, which means later movies we'll get to see him grow to become OP Batman. All in all, I think it was great. I get some folk won't like it, and that's chill, you don't have to. Keep in mind there's multiple versions of Batman. This one just strikes me more because he isn't OP from the get go.

26:35 little explanation: when the water floods the arena, batman cuts the cable (and falls into the water) because, as you can see, it sparks, and as the projector reaches the water (since there is still electricity in it) due to the circumstances (the building has a lot of metal support poles, etc.) the water there would conduct electricity so fast that everyone below would die instantly

Aw man I LOVED this movie. It feels more grounded than most Batman films, to me. Because this would 100% be how some kind of modern villain would invite his plans- via social media and finding like minded people. As others have stated, he's only been Batman for 2 years and is still trying to figure out what that even means or how to even be Bruce Wayne
