This is the worse gardening season drought we've had in a long time but we are still being blessed in spite of it. Thanks for stopping in at the Piney Woods Homestead. Let's fire up the Kubota L2501 and get some work done. God bless.

Good video, I miss my homesteading, a year ago I was diagnosed with a lung disease, but now I have plenty of time to study His Word , quality talks (Prayer).. and family, “in everything I still give Him my Praise and Thanksgiving “. Blessings to y’all !

That red soil is so beautiful,I would love to be in the hill area where the soil looks like that! Nice ear of corn,I do the same thing lol. That first one… pop the end off and start popping those kernels off and into my mouth! I love raw corn but don’t eat too much. The heat here has been awful, index over 100 for the past 3-4 days. The rain last night brought down the temps but it is a steam bath out there now. Someone posted to Facebook yesterday they saw a big ‘ol Copperhead snake, posted a picture of it. It was really close to where I am working on my lot, clearing out brushy mess and trying to get it cleaned out for some fruit trees… made me become way more cautious about beating around in there with just tennis shoes on! I located my tall rubber boots for the task,my feet gonna sweat like mad when I get back to it! 😂 🥾 Thanks for sharing your garden and advice with us as always! You guys be careful out there too! 🐍

Tilling and working up the soil does disrupt beneficial creatures like worms. Do you ever add biomass like sawdust, wood chips or amendments like comfrey? Building up the soil diversity would also help in times of draughts. Peace

Same here with our Bodacious corn, doing well in spite of little to no rain for many weeks. I didn't think it was ready yet because the silk was still light brown, however when I felt that the tips of the ears were rounded instead of pointed I went ahead and pulled enough for supper. It was excellent! That also means that the critters will discover it soon, so like in years past, I will have to pick most of it in one day or we won't get much of it for us. The ground is dry, crusty, and light gray with no weeds to speak of. What kind of ground cover do you put down in the fall? I've been using winter wheat for years but I would like to do something like you do. Thanks for the videos!

I planted a little 8ft x 12ft garden, if you want to call it a garden. Lol! I have cantaloupes, tomatoes, basil, flowers, sweet potatoes, red potatoes and hot pepper. I have harvested 8 tomatoes, 1 cantaloupe and some basil. They were all amazing. I have more cantaloupes growing, but found tomato worms on my Better Boy tomatoes, but nothing on the Celebrity Tomatoes. Interesting! Anyway, you & your wife, Doug & Stacey off grid inspired me to grow a garden. I’m 62, with health issues & short on money, but I with a shovel built this little garden all by myself. And I am proud of it and proud of the food God has blessed me with. Thank y’all for everything & God bless. Ronda
