Ah, great, then you're fully aware of the common corporate practice of hiring people ONLY as IC's (whether they are one or not) in order to avoid having to pay benefits, workman's comp, vacation/sick time, and have the ability to fire for any/no reason while often being entirely unaware of state labor rights. That's what this is about. I worked in the corporate world for a long time and I can tell you that a lot of MAJOR corporations have gone to this business model. It's not liberal vs/ conservative, it's just plain greedy, and it's entirely unfair to workers.

Let’s be real. The reason she won’t answer a question is that Congress is weak, soft and ineffectual. She knows that there will be no harmful repercussions to her for not answering. She knows she will be confirmed regardless of whether or how she answers. If there is a down side to answering and no down side to not answering, what incentive is there for her to answer? The "goal" they keep skirting around is the government wants more control of how and when they collect taxes. Independent contractors pay taxes quarterly while employees pay every pay period. Independent contractors can deduct lots of different expenses before paying tax on the remaining profit. Employees cannot. The government wants to make everyone an employee for tax purposes, the most taxed type of income. That's the goal.

This is honestly what they should do in these hearings: Issue the witnesses two placards, one which says,"YES" and another that says, "No." When asked a direct question, the witness would be required to remain silent and answer by raising one of the placards. I'm a conservative who despises Biden and thinks most of his appointees are terrible, but I'm also somebody who has worked as an independent contractor in jobs in which I was basically an employee with no benefits. Yes I had a choice of taking the job or not, but if I wanted to do that kind of work, there were no employers who would hire me as anything other than an independent contractor. I don't know what her proposed legislation is. Knowing Biden, it's probably bad, but the witness here was mistreated.
