Not old, but probably indeed older than the others at the shelter. Here rescued ferals are almost never older than 3 years - seniors have always had a home before ending up in a shelter.

I have a former mean and nasty wandering barn cat who showed up in my backyard being a dick about 8 years ago, and now, after much love and patience, he is the most loving of love bugs. I called him Mr. Stripey after just referring to him as that bad striped cat when he would attack my other cats, so when I actually took him in, I just added the Mister. Sometimes he just looks up at me with the most pure look of love and appreciation for his good life, and full food bowl. He’s become a tubby boy now but that’s okay. He’s happy.

They do exist! My cat was about a year old (according to the vet when he was brought in to be neutered) when he showed up as a stray. Wasn't ready for another cat at the time but that's another story. Excellent manners, even when intact - desperately wanted in the house and immediately took over. You'd have thought he had always lived there. Greeted guests, stayed off counters, the best manners of any cat I've ever had. Did drink out of the toilet for a bit. For about two months out of nowhere decided when it was my bedtime. That was 15 or 16 years now and he's still going strong. Sebastian occasionally gets on the counter these days and gets away with it. Orange cats will always hold a special place in my heart.
