Do you think the Bears will be a playoff team this season?
@UsefulPreconceivedNotions5 ай бұрын
Like what you said about the Jets, my concerns with the Bears are coaching-related. As the Eagles proved last season, bad play-callers either can't or won't come into a franchise, ask "what worked best last year" & build off of it. Most NFL coaches' egos are far too fragile to ever do that. So we have to judge the current 2 on what they've done. Waldron neither got the running nor passing game going after witnessing Canales do at least one of those things right for a Full Year along with having his RB & WR talent doubled. Eberflus _cancelled_ the play-sets that made the Bears an offensive threat. Twice. & while there are plays he called that I feel were designed to undermine Fields that I don't expect him to call for Williams, we don't know he's capable of calling good plays. For instance 11 minutes into kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zp_HY3SZZs2Ue7M is from '22. Who was directing Mooney to sit in passing lanes & not move? Even if we say "that's Getsy" it still means Eberflus saw this & didn't recognize what was bad about it. & the fact that an OC can't override an HC & cancel _his play-sets_ implies that *all* the bad ones the Bears reinstated (again, I wish to remind everyone, TWICE) it _HAS_ to mean that the ones that halved the Bears' production were Eberflus'.

@@UsefulPreconceivedNotions Interesting analysis. Only thing I'd say is that Waldron was brought in to develop Caleb Williams and to call the plays. I don't know how good he is, but that's the plan. Eberflus is a defensive guy. I think he will let Waldron call all the plays. I am hoping for a 10-win season, but a lot of that depends on Williams' development.

As a lifelong Bears fan, one thing has always remained true. Nobody scores in Chicago, not the Bears and usually not the other team either. Starting from Papa Bear Halas, defense has been in the Bears DNA. It still wins us plenty of games, but once the stars align and we get an actual offense, look out. Imagine how good the Bears D could be if they got more than 4 downs of rest every possession?

Yes but not in this context. English is an insane, confusing language. in sports “regression to the mean” is used a lot when talking about outlying stats that are the result of back luck, or at least perceived that way, and the expectation that they’ll bounce back because the law of averages. like 2022 Diontae Johnson having 147 targets and 0 TDs. Progression usually denotes a natural incline, not to do with luck.

Excellent breakdown! In Chicago, they're much higher on Brisker than they are on Kyler Gordon. Gordon has some injuries and position changes that perhaps set him back a little bit even here, he didn't seem ready to play at the NFL level as a rookie. He definitely made strides in his 2nd year and we'll need to see further improvements in year 3 or we're going to be drafting another CB next year. With Byard being somewhat beyond his prime, drafting or signing another pro bowl caliber safety may be a priority next year or the following.

I dont recall anyone covering practices this much when Fields was under center but i dont recall hearing of Fields throwing multiple picks every single practice either. He must not be throwing to open recievers. The great secondary excuses are absolute garbage because the recievers have more experience and are already established stars in this league and the secondary, while very good, are extremely young. So the elite secondary is not an excuse for picks every practice. This should be concerning for every Bears fan. How long til we know if trading Fields was a huge mistake? As great as a roster as Poles has built, if he blew it on Williams, this will go down as the biggest bust in NFL history. Not saying it will happen, but if any team has the history for something like that to happen, it would be the Bears at that position for sure

@@maskedman5657 unfortunately, I'd have to agree with those Detroit fans at this point. They have one of the most complete, well run offenses in the league. Their defense was a liability last year, but they took some high-risk/high-reward signings to address it (Davenport, Reader), along with 2 great CB prospects, which I thought was their biggest weakness last year. Some pivotal mistakes, and bad breaks kept them from a SB. SF has a lot more to prove going into this year. Offensively: Can the offensive line as a whole play better? How do teams play Purdy with a full year of tape, and can he continue to progress? Does the workload catch up with the YAC bros after 3 consecutive seasons of 19-20 games, and each of them already having an injury history? Can Pearsall replace at least an adequate amount of the production they got from Aiyuk? Defensively: Can the run defense return to elite form? Who's going to step in for Greenlaw? Who's the #2 CB, or slot depending on where Lenoir plays?
