Uematsu loves 'Maria and Draco'! It's such a joy to hear your own taste confirmed by the artist. I went to the Distant Worlds concert in New York three weeks ago. I can't remember the last time I had so much fun at a concert.

I would love to meet him someday. I'd never really thought about the musical aspect of the series until a few years ago when I realised I'd be humming various themese from a selection of the games when I was thinking or waiting for something, without even realising it.

I would give 99.9% of everything to meet this man. If it wasn't for him, my life would be unbelievably different. His music is my childhood. One day for my birthday I will go to Japan, go find Mr. Uematsu and ask him to play the entire Final Fantasy X (it's my favorite) soundtrack for me. Even though this is 99.9% never going to happen. I can still dream(:

Let's just agree that both Beethoven and Uematsu were revolutionary. Yes, Beethoven obviously left one of the biggest impacts on music (though from his time period, I slightly prefer Schubert), but Uematsu's accomplishment's shouldn't be underestimated. Video games are becoming a new art form, and Nobuo Uematsu is one of the VERY FEW people responsible for that.

Now there is a man dedicated to what he does and enjoys what he's good at. Thinks of the soundtrack of each game he's worked on as a child? Anybody else and I'd say that's creepy, but with the musical repertoire and resume he has, it makes perfect sense.

Just my two cents on the Beethoven and Uematsu comparison: It's worth pointing out that while Beethoven (as well as Mozart, Debussy, and most of the famous classical composers) had formal musical training since childhood, Uematsu never had any formal musical training at all but was instead self-taught. Uematsu's impact is not as large as Beethoven (at least not yet), but as a musical genius, I would say Uematsu is at least on par with Beethoven.

@ozzy9191 Did you even bother reading my comment before you responded? I already stated that Uematsu's impact doesn't come close to Beethoven. What I'm talking about here is musical talent, not impact. The fact is that Uematsu is an entirely self-taught musical genius, something that even Beethoven or Mozart never were (they were both formally trained since childhood). That alone would put Uematsu at least on par with them in terms of raw musical talent.

@FearRain So Beethoven didn't have any inspirations just as Nobuo did? it is pretty ignorant in my eyes that believing him changing video game music is no feat. Times are changing and video games are a new form of art affecting everyday lives, such as FF7 and so on. I am a big fan of Beethoven and listen to him in my studies all the time, but Nobuo has really come to his own and given some time might be able to mentioned in the same breathe comfortably amongst the mainstream with beethoven.

well i don't know about as good as mozart or beethoven...that's pretty legendary. but yes, he has a great imagination. it's just that writing for a movie is very different because most of the action captivates the audience. most people could care less about the music. i mean, they have bands perform mediocre sounds to fill in. nobuo uematsu could change that and bring more integrity back in a movie's score

@critiqual009 why you can compare a different non-comparative music style? beethoven compose classical while uematsu modern pop. i believe you're not a pianist or even touch piano so you can easily brag beethoven..i just respect both of beethoven and uematsu, and i strongly advise you to not compare them.
