Some people miss the old wf and I get it, it had a unique charm at the very start and it's charm keeps morphing, but it became one of the most distinct games I've played. Bullet jump is legendary the same way classic halo's hoppy strafy movement + attacks is legendary to me. Something as small as enemy highlighting has made it EVEN better, the speeds it lets me parse things at makes such a difference. It's one of the things I and others suggested, and (I'm guessing) Pablo was like YES. That said, I'd love a sort of pseudo-demake that's a bit like early wf or an interpretation thereof. The early dark sector concept from like 2003 could be on the mood board
@Jenkkimie3 ай бұрын
@@Gnurklesquimp2 I still do. I am a founder, +10-year old veteran and there were certain things I do wish DE would return. One of those things was that in the ye'olden times of Warframe, the infested maps were dark and you relied on a flashlight. It added difficulty both fitting the faction and in a way that wasn't directly about the enemy itself, but rather the unique challenge it brought with them. I think one reason DE steered away from it was that it's not exactly visually engaging the same way modern versions are, and it's an accessibility issue for those who are visually impaired, claustrophobic or otherwise anxious around "horror-ish" elements. So we probably will never see that, but the concept of environmental challenges still are a missed opportunity to bring fun elements into the game.
@Gnurklesquimp23 ай бұрын
@Jenkkimie agreed, it worked really well with the atmosphere. I suppose they sort of did a nod at that with the zealoid prelade, iirc it got a bit darker in there. I also bet something like railjack could've been so cool in old-school warframe, if the game hadn't grown to be such a beast in a million different ways I could've actually seen them make it as continuous and connected as they were initially planning to. If DE ever makes another game, I know what id want most... well, 2nd to them doing whatever theyre passionate about of course. If they capture that same moody 2000's vibe, id be over the moon.

@@BloodyDIMISIS55they hit Dante's dark verse and tragedy with a line-of-sight requirement that makes it feel much less good and consistent compared to launch. Between the nerf not feeling necessary and also it happening less than a week after his release people have felt particularly burnt by it Personally I think Dante is still extremely strong, the "nuke everything with dark verse and tragedy" playstyle is just less obviously dominant. Anyone still feeling burnt by the nerf should really try a Noctua damage focused build and see that he's still an absolute blast to use.

@@Prof_Pangloss yah the complaining is stupid, my Dante giving my entire team 50K overguard and 8 fucking mill nuke on all enemies on sight is insane.
@Prof_Pangloss3 ай бұрын
My (not so) hot take is that the LoS addition wasn't necessary. The issue is that the base damage of Tragedy acted as a tile-wide nuke through walls for any enemies under lvl 20 or so. Higher range than titania thermal sunder with significantly less investment needed, so for newer players buying Dante with platinum I can see how that became disruptive in non-steel path content. If they had removed the base damage on tragedy, so it would only affect enemies that had already been primed in some way, I think that would've solved the low level mission dominance without affecting the fun we had in high end content.

But at the end of the day Dante is still insanely good and the nerf is not at all worth holding a grudge over. Call it a misstep but move on ffs.

The original vid is one of the reason I actually now buy currency every blue moon. Its not that i like spending money but rather I would like to see the industry copy many of warframes monitization strategy. They are a good example of how to build a community and staying alive without being extreamly predatory and i think the entire industry should learn from them.
@MichaelJM3 ай бұрын
The noclip doc is why I started playing Warframe and knowing their story and seeing how they tried not to be predatory - it definitely made spending money in game a bit easier. It's nice to know the money is going to support a great team of artists who care. I'd like to think their success is borne out of trying to make a quality game that players will enjoy rather than any monetization loop. The industry could learn a lot from DE.
@QuietDarkness273 ай бұрын
I read somewhere, that the problem with “the industry” is not that they want some money, but that they want as much money as they can get (with as little work to boot I reckon). The thing about DE is that they know their limits. They have been up against the ropes before, so they know what “work” is required and for what kind of money. Also, DE actively shows their work on a regular basis, so we can’t make the above claim for them (as much money as possible with as little work as possible). I hesitate to say DE is happy with “enough”, and the truth is that they prioritize the wellbeing of the community over the monetization, and because of that the community continues to care for DE by engaging with the monetization strategies. DE respects the ecosystem of the community, whereas other “suits” from other games just want to squeeze as much revenue out of the market as possible.
@Nanoqtran3 ай бұрын
@@QuietDarkness27 So from what i've learned it generally falls on to what the "Stakeholders" want. In many games the Stakeholders are the investers and all they want to see is green for their investment. they care about nothing else. On the other hand some game devs want to provide experiences through their game. These two outlooks do not align. Experiences do not generate money, doubly so if its free. The reason DE can operate like they are is because they don't have to make specific marks for their investors. They only technically need enough money to fund their team and their projects. We've seen it with Larian Studios. Having a publisher or investors that aren't in for your game causes issues (business people looking for money). They make the games worse and the system around them inherently predatory.

Played since Fortuna on Switch, and the one thing that kept me coming back was the eccentric approach to mechanics. The damage system is something that is constantly being fleshed out and nuances that can be discovered can make and break builds. It's also a sense of non-predatory monetization that is not only bearable, but fair to the players and studios. DE is the only company I am happy to throw money at, since they have provided me 5200h of value and gameplay

6 years and a bit ago I was done with Elder Scrolls Online and looking for a new challenge to sink my teeth in. One of my fellow clan members in ESO had mentioned Warframe a few times. I have always been a huge Sci-Fi fan and was getting frustrated with all the Tolkien inspired games that dotted the MMO landscape so a game like Warframe sounded pretty good. When I looked for some gameplay on YT I found the NoClip docu on DE and Warframe and that's what pushed me to give it a try. I think it took no more than 15 minutes to get hooked. The thing that really gripped me was the freedom in movement and motion, and the thing that convinced me this was worth sinking hundreds to thousands of hours into was the depth of the game and its many mechanics. After seeing multiple MMOs kill off their complexity and class originality in the name of PvP balance (talking about you ESO, where every class became a carbon copy of the others only differentiated by the colour of their particle effects) the fact that WF didn't really have PvP I took as a pro rather than a con. I'm now thousands of hours in, I've taken the occasional break to play some other games, but WF stole my heart and it never disappointed me. I don't think I'll ever stop playing this game, I've been gaming since I first touched a computer in 1981 and I simply have never encountered a game this good. Which is kinda mind-blowing if you consider this is a F2P independent game rather than some EA or Ubisoft mega monstrosity. The WF team gets it, it's a game designed by players and fans, rather than shareholders and committees, and that remains incredibly refreshing in today's game development climate.

Great vid again! Rebecca has had an amazing career indeed. Starting as an intern and now creative director. Very well deserved too, she's a walking encyclopedia on the game. It's very clear from on-the-spot questions on streams, what's that syandana or deluxe skin, the name of that helmet, specific names of resources. She knows everything. I feel like she knows so much about the game and the community, she can "make the right decisions" every single time (deluding myself that there are single right decisions, and that they're made without input from a whole team heheh). As a player from the outside looking in, it made *total* sense that Rebecca took over from Steve as he shifted to soulframe. It was like "well, who else would be able to do that?!" of course it had to be Rebb, she knows the game through and through, and knows or senses what the community likes (or needs). Of course that is looking from the outside in, but I'm glad they had the same idea. What an awesome team. It's so weird having Rebecca as creative director for the game, and her voice as a guide for the tenno in game. Good weird.

If you ever decide to try again, just take it slow and learn one thing at a time. The game doesn't require you to take in everything at once. Hell, I've played for 10 years and there are still some aspects of the game I barely engage with. And that's fine, I don't feel like I'm missing out or am getting an incomplete experience. That said, rebb and the CM's at DE do a job second to none in the gaming industry. Id kill to work for GGG but if I could be a CM at DE id relocate to canada in a heartbeat.
@RedShadowOfSaturn3 ай бұрын
Rebecca herself, during the original noclip documentary, that if all they did was just add weapons or whatever week after week, they likely wouldn't have lived long enough to be considered special to talk about. Endgame is a tough problem to properly tackle, but the core tenet to remember is...loot games and power progression games advertise power fantasies, and when people obsess over making the biggest numbers, it's not really possible to just "make more challenging content" because the gigantic numbers typically overpower the challenge. The way that DE has taken those things in different directions and required more varied knowledge and broader experience to truly succeed I think is a perfect solution. In fact, I would argue that Steel Path Duviri Experience is probably the closest thing to a real "raid" that Warframe SHOULD have, as it does everything a raid should do BETTER than the original two raids...multiple stages, dynamic paths and wrinkles, tons of mechanics to work through, and a multistage boss fight at the end. It's not just "3-5 mission types with standing on buttons, calling out symbols and timing DPS phases." That's what Destiny thinks raids should be, and aside from being high budget and production value...mechanically, they aren't great...they're just big and flashy.
