I'm used to well spaced and timed subtitles. If the are not well paced then it distracts way to much and you are constantly reading long sentences instead of enjoying the show. This got nothing to do with experience.

It's not computer generated for sure, but there are typos, weird syntax (you usually only translate to your native language and this reads like a japanese translator's work), the typesetting and pace are sometime ridiculous. It's not hard to fix and it gives the feeling this hasn't been reviewed.

I love the candidness from Yoshi P. Very few people would dare to talk about their company as having acted arrogantly, especially an employee for a Japanese company. He's pretty dead on too. Square was always known as trailblazers in console graphics, especially post PS1. I recall being speechless seeing pictures of FFX for the first time; I just couldn't believe those where actually real graphics in a video game. And I guess getting that much praise for so many years can eventually go to your collective head. Almost like they needed a big failure to be brought back down to earth, and to realize they weren't miracle makers that could do no wrong.

One of my Discord friend recommended me FFXIV not long ago. Tbh I am one of those people who have never really played any of the the prior Final Fantasy games and was sceptical about it. But I was kinda on verge of suspending my current WoW subscription. The MMO which had been part of my life for 7 years, I was starting to get weary of it. Most of my guild and friends had already moved on from it and I was just hanging around the major cities and doing nothing. Amidst this ongoing lockdown, I decided to take the jump and bought the Complete edition and I couldn't had been more surprised! I am still pretty new to this game so I have minimal knowledge of the lore but once I found out this is actually a 2.0 of the orignal game, I had to know more as to what happened. This was a brilliant watch! I can only imagine how fans who actually loved and cared for the OG game must had felt at the time of server shut down and when they found out about the 2.0

These interviews with Yoshi P really blew me away. I played WoW for many years, and listened to a lot of Ion Hazzikostas talk about that game, and everything he said was always lawyer speak. You can smell the bullshit. With Yoshi P, he speaks so candidly, and you can tell he's a very chill and down to earth guy. I couldn't believe the stuff he said, and it makes me even more glad I recently became a FF14 player myself. Blizzard would never do something like this, rebuilding a game from the ground up after it failed. No way. Square Enix is a lot of things, but you have to give them credit with this, this was amazing. To the devs, thanks. From a brand new player in 2020 you're game is great.
@megamage9114 жыл бұрын
Well, that's actually not entirely true, that thing about Blizzard not wanting to scrap a game and try over. Cuz that's basically how Overwatch happened. It was basically built with the scraps they had leftover from their failed project "Titan". I know it's technically not the exact same concept, but I feel it's still somewhat comparable. Hell, they even managed to salvage Diablo 3 when they put out Reaper of Souls, cuz they owned up to that the real money auction house, along with all they had done to the game to accommodate that, was a mistake, and just completely removed it. But then again, that's probably one of the very last things of actual integrity Blizzard has ever done. It's just been a steady decline downhill ever since...
@JackgarPrime4 жыл бұрын
@@megamage911 Well Overwatch is different. That was one game in development being retooled into something else before it ever was released. That's pretty common in game development. Like there's the story of how the original version of RE4 that was in development actually got scrapped and refitted to create Devil May Cry. The Diablo 3 example is a more relevant one, but still nowhere near the scale of what was done with FFXIV. That was more shifting business models, which has happened a couple times before. Not basically recreating an entirely new game. The closest I can think to what was done here is maybe No Man's Sky? That's obviously not a Blizzard game, but it is maybe the closest comparison as far as taking a live game, overhauling it dramatically, and then releasing it again.

Azura Moonstar Yep, ff11 difficulty was the intended design because it threw you in a sink or swim situation that required asking for help but people started using guides online & hacks which led to elitism especially with rare gear, inflated prices and VIP groups. That promotion of communication I think was intended in 14 as well. Kind of mimics real life in that if you were friends with the right people, had access to the right secrets, left your morals at the door etc. you got to enjoy everything the game had to offer.

Final Fantasy is not a game series I've played, it's a game type/genre that doesn't really appeal to me. But I love hearing the stories and details on how games are made, the struggles game devs go through and, especially in this case, just what they think of the decisions taken by "higher ups". I think it finally lays to rest the notion that the developers themselves don't care, and shows that they are indeed very passionate people who want to make content that people enjoy, that they hurt when things go wrong They certainly seemed to have been very open and honest with you Danny and I think that is a testament and credit to your level of work. Very looking forward to part 2
@RekiWylls7 жыл бұрын
The greatest thing about Final Fantasy is that the series has taken on so many different forms, aesthetics, themes, and so forth that there's almost a Final Fantasy game for everyone at this point and most of the big ones are pretty good. Whether you're looking for turn-based gameplay, aciton-based, even strategy, and medieval, sci-fi, steampunk and mish-mash settings. There's even significant variance in the amount of cutscenes/story depending on which game you're looking at. I'd recommend taking a look at some of the numbered games and seeing if there's anything that catches your eye.

Oh i dont agree with (the OPs) comment at all. Many of the original team didnt care at all, because if they did care instead of cosmetics but making a functional game it wouldnt of been the crapshoot that 1.0 was. Head devs laughed and scoffed at the idea of jumping, communication was non existent, and a smug attude was exuding from the whole process. Square is blessed to have such a loyal fanbase - if this was any other title by any other company it would of went belly up and stayed that way. And what boggles the mind is this, if that broken mess shipped and was nearly meeting its projected goals do you honestly think we would of gotten Yoshita and his unique project management skills? No we would of had a half completed broken game chugging along under a FF brand name. In retrospect its like the game crash of the 80s, it happened and stronger companies came forth because of it. 1.0 needed to crash and burn, now we have the excellent borderline prefect mmo that is ARR.

I just appreciate this game so much and love to learn about 1.0 and the amazing story of FFXIV's rebirth. Happy (almost) 10 years FFXIV! Here's to 10 more!

I was there, for XI, and for XIV 1.0. Thank you for documenting one of the coolest times in gaming, and a large part of my life, honestly. The song they played to commemorate 1.0 in to ARR still makes me emotional, knowing there were real people behind these stories we live. Thanks to your beautiful documentary, I got to see who those people were. Thank you. "Look to those who came before to lead those who come after." (Distant Worlds, Returning Home, FFXIV)

Gives me goosebumps seeing the old content before the comet hit. I didn't even know the failure and remake of 1.0 was actually woven into the lore of the game, so I always assumed it's just part of ARRs backstory and nothing more. Great video. That is some insane production value.

Great documentary. A Realm Reborn was the best MMO I'd played since launch World of Warcraft. I loved how it cared for its story, the fact that it felt so open and inviting compared to how restrictive many MMO's feel today and for the fact that it kept it's wackiness and Japanese origins throughout. Great watch Noclip. Love Yoshida's honesty about SE, I think a lot of people felt that way about them at that point in history.

This is the best documentary I've ever watched. I'm so glad that you've made this and I can hardly wait to see the rest of it. As an FF11 player, the release of FF14 1.0 had be excited, only to hop online for it and realize that I had wasted so much money on the Collector's Edition, stopping my play within the first week of a game that I had waited so long for. While nothing will ever recapture the joy I felt playing Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV 2.0 is still a lovely breath of fresh air, but knowing how hard they worked to ensure that the 1.0 version would be redone to satisfy their dedicate playerbase is heartwarming, and I can't thank you all enough for documenting this mess of a game, but beauty of a rebirth.

Understanding what people want and what people like, and then pairing that with what people need, is exactly how you make a successful MMO in today's market. That was very smart of him to look at what made WoW so successful when trying to fix the design of the game, which is why FF XIV is so fantastic. It draws on some of the things that made WoW great once, and make it still feel polished and accessible today even in its current poor state, while also improving on all of those things and avoiding some pitfalls that WoW did not. That's why this game is so beautiful and feels so refreshing to play.

Aww so pleased I was directed here by another player.I can't wait to watch the others in this series. I have played since 1.0 and never stopped, I'm so grateful Yoshi stepped in and gave us the game we have today but still will always remember with affection the strange flaws we had in 1.0 like the fatigue system, the 6 anima a day to tp (one tp basically to a main camp) no chocobo's or airships to begin with..the wonderful way we had to line our retainers up in the wards to sell anything then had to go click EVERY one to find items to buy, chasing people to buy items from them directly with the shop icon on their head, having to craft a component of an item to repair it with, breaking your gear if the meld failed..we were hardcore back then, plus.so much fun walking into a level 99 mob..the players today have it SO easy. We couldn't alter our characters nor rename them, once made they stayed like that, and 2 retainers was the max, so we simply bought extra copies of the game cheaply and used those alts for tp's and retainers.. I think the Legacy status and accounts we enjoy now was a smart move, showing us we were appreciated for supporting the game. I have my chocobo and goob that no one can get today. Started on Kashuan that merged with Trabia to become Hyperion (Primal) but moved to Louisoix (Chaos) 2 years ago. Long live FFXIV^^

Can we talk about how their one worry after a poor game release was coming up with multiple ways of apologizing to fans? Can anyone even imagine Blizzard doing that?
@TheSilverwing9993 жыл бұрын
As they already stated in the documentary, different cultures accept statements differently. When Western companies apologises they get shit on. In Japan it's expected that you apologise multiple times before the apology is considered enough. And they don't consider it fake and corporate as we do. Blizzard has apologised before (like at blizzcon) and look at the toxic reaction they got.
@bikespj223 жыл бұрын
@@TheSilverwing999 apologized for banning a hearthstone player and stealing his money for speaking up for a country being held hostage by a dictator??? They never even said what they were apologizing for and they never gave him the money and he is still banned. Do you really think that's an apology? Stop sipping the koolaid dude blizzard is fucking trash
@thechugg43723 жыл бұрын
@@TheSilverwing999 They got a horrible reaction because they didn't apologize, do you know how to differentiate a heartfelt apology from a lie?
@reloadpsi3 жыл бұрын
@@TheSilverwing999 That's because westerners don't have Japan's taboo on insincere apologies, and their PR teams weaponize that. If you look closely you'll see that Blizzard has never apologized for anything; it's always "sorry to hear you didn't like this," or "sorry you felt that way." That is not apologizing. That is deflection, and in a world that's more and more aware of abuse tactics and gaslighting techniques, fewer people are dumb enough to fall for any of that.
