In this video I share an idea to light up my nocturnal critters, that I got from my friends Kai and Aimee!

Great stuff Luke it truely looks great, I also love the blue! I have recently designed and built a new enclosure for some tree snakes with the same sort of idea. I have routed out a strip into the roof of the enclosure and just went to Bunnings and purchased the Grid Connect RGB strip lights which I’ve since put into that routed channel and attached and LED strip light cover on top of it. The beauty of the Bunnings system (I’m sure you can do the same with others) is you can change to any colour you want but also the different shades of that colour as well as how bright or how dim you want that light to be, all through the app it’s truely awesome! I have now connected that to the grid connect power board so when my T5 UV, LED plant light and my incandescent heat light slowly turn off at 6:30pm, 6:40pm, 6:50pm & 7pm the strip light comes on from 7pm until 11pm (by then I’m usually in bed). It’s truely awesome to see how technology and lighting has progressed since when you think back to about 20 years ago we all had blue bayonet fitting party lights. Great video keep it up, you’ve got a great platform to really encourage others to improve their animals welfare at home but doing things like full spectrum lighting, backgrounds for the animals to utilise, enrichment to keep their animals stimulated and using their natural sensory systems it’s all good things when done correctly. Keep up the good work.

Thanks mate. Yeah I wanted to use those strips and probably would in the same application that you did. I just didn’t want bleed light around these tanks seeings they are so small. Might be something I try to do someday. You’re not wrong regarding the technology. I love watching the ramp up and down of my monitor corner lights in conjunction with the sunset / rise outside.

Ive done something similar to this on my snakes. The Grid connect have light strips and globes that you can do control over like the wall plugs. Ive got a one metre light strip over a couple enclosures and one of the globes in a snake enclosure. They are just the normal whites as that would do for display but Ive got one of those colour changing lights for the actual room. Of a night I change it to any colour and even the brightness can be adjusted. I have it on blue on 80% brightness that way I can see what my nocturnal stuff are doing while my diurnal stuff can sleep without a bright light disturbing all of them as well I can take photos.

That’s awesome. I think I will change it out in the future but it was a cheap investment for now. I also like how small the lights are vs a big downlight. I like your idea of a light for the room though.

I don't know if you know of any USA reptile KZbin channels, but if you go to SnakeDiscovery (Emily and Ed) and go back to some of their home videos going back over a couple few years, they have those in their kitchen too BUT I don't think they have even thought to include them in an enclosure, they made their own indoor reptile zoo now, I think they should include those in their enclosures too!

Hey can I get a recommendation on planting soil for a bioactive enclosure for a green tree python? I have a block of coir I intent to use as part of a mix but its hard to find any soil that isnt full of fertilizer and other such additives. If you can suggest anything from Bunnings specifically that would be especially helpful.
@BeachesScalyBeasts
@BeachesScalyBeasts 2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, I’m actually planning to do some bio gtp builds myself soon. From time to time Bunnings have organic soils without added fertilisers and that’s what I’d generally go to myself and mix coir peat, charcoal and mulch through it.
