Something I want to touch on in my C&C 3 is how the nod infantry in that game were a good reflection of the brotherhoods scale at that point - its more efficient for them to produce massed numbers of poorly equipped/trained hordes of yellowzoners over the well trained soldiers they fielded in tibsun.
@Jethild Жыл бұрын
Something I didn't mention in this video that you could mention in yours is the animations for the militants. Some of them will do things like looking down the barrel of there gun, randomly dropping it on the ground, and the fact that they fire it one handed, whereas GDI's Rifleman always hold there rifles with both hands. It just goes to further show the lack of training the militants have.
@Remitonov Жыл бұрын
It's wickedly ingenious, really. Focus your resources to training a small elite core of soldiers, and back them up by hordes of bullet-soakers to distract GDI forces.
@TunaHematoma Жыл бұрын
I kinda hated that, haha. Wasting lives and equipment when you've got the resources to train professional soldiers is not efficient. Usually when something like that is happening, it's because all you good soldiers are dead and you're desperately throwing bodies at the enemy. I think what actually happened was EA didn't understand how Nod worked in previous games and made them archetypical "militant religious fanatics", which in the modern context basically meant middle eastern rebels with poor training.

I don't mind the transition from trained to militants because even without the 'Blame EA' mentality. Timeline wise, Kane is in fact running out of time. People forget the planet is dying right before humanity's eyes. Even if ZOCOM succeeds somewhat in containing the infection, the fact is Tiberium has spread beneath the crust and is leaching from the mantle. People are getting more desparate and there's no way in hell he can go to the Forgotten. Besides, his plan is not to win the war to begin with. He just wants GDI to win and use the chaos of an alien invasion and Liquid T detonation to get his hands on one of the Towers.

It's not something you get a lot of in modern FPS games, but in the Golden Age of 3D FPS the worlds were full of details like that, from Half-Life to Deus Ex to GoldenEye, the devs really made sure that the environments had their own stories, and felt like real places we were exploring rather than just the shallow wallpaper around our linear experience.

If you read Peptuck's Tiberium Wars novelisation, it does shed light on why the Brotherhood, as a populist force, is so successful. To rephrase, the Brotherhood is less a religion but more a spiritual call for harmony, but more importantly optimism in trying times. It's messages that may seem filled with hate and bitterness at first, in reality, are more in line with spite and perseverance in the face of oppression both man-caused and natural. In a world of social injustice or apocalyptic circumstances, it allows the Brotherhood to thrive and even reach out to other faiths. One of the more potent moments in Peptuck's works is when we see the Nod commander's perspective of visiting a Nod medical center during the Nod Blue Zone offensive. The commander noted not just Nod formal priests, but also monks, Christian Priests and even Imams amongst the throng of people, and each were doing their best to soothe the injured and the dying. So, in an abstract sense, Nod does have merit, especially for the downtrodden and the ill-fated by giving them a sense of purpose. Only when you start going up the ranks do you begin to see the apparent manipulations at play. Even then, 'faith' plays a huge role in why people continue to follow Kane.

Also, there was this serious imbalance between the GDI and Nod perspective. Yes, GDI suffered by the millions in the march to Sarajevo, but at the same time this isn't reflected in the narrative. There was an instance a Nod commando toyed with her prey and got capped by a sniper. Her prey was just a bunch of grunts. I also agree that while Nick Havoc is a great addition to the story, one of his later appearances sort of got hamfisted in. Also, Black Hand was starting to look like target practice and less like the wh40k Space Marines they were originally potrayed as. Early chapters had characters bricking themselves whenever they saw one. Later chapters have them getting oneshotted in almost bizarre ways.

@@everythingsgonnabealright8888 Yeah, it's interesting to note that NOD had only made advances in their more estoric tech like stealth and energy weapons. "Good thing Renegade set that issue straight" My brother in Kane, Renegade made the whole thing worse with Nod's using TibSun's bright red+black colors :P On a serious note, I have my own headcanon with that: the Brotherhood is supposed to be a terr0rist group who fights a lot inside of cities (as seen in the cinematics) so it makes sense they use urban camo. Or it could be related to the Brotherhood's disorganization, cuz' despite all their tech and influence, Nod is still a mix of Third world countries' armies, ragtag fanatics and paramilitary/mercenaries (like Carlos Mendoza) so I doubt they even think about changing uniforms based on the setting, they probably throw their armies as cannon fodder while most specialized groups (chemwarriors, flame & stealth tanks) took care of things, just like in TibWars with the militants & black hand/etc. In the case of GDI, I guess it's just a matter of style, real UN has its peacekeepers wearing blue helmets and berets that don't really fit in any setting, so

My favorite iteration of Nod military is C&C 3. The contrast between the masses of militia soldiers and the few but professional elites and the even rarer cyborgs is super well done. GDI always felt boring as a faction compared to Nod, they look and feel too much like a generic sci fi military we've seen a thousand times.
@Lazarultos Жыл бұрын
I think that was intentional in designing the GDI. They were supposed to be grounded in reality and using well-known generic sci-fi designs (which are also based on realistic ideas) in order to highlight the contrast between them and the far more unique visuals of the Brotherhood of Nod, which choose form over function. The same way that wacky characters work best in stories when there's a straight man to contrast them against. When there's a generic-looking faction (which is on-brand for being the no-nonsense government-funded military institution) the esoteric style and design choices of the Cult faction they regularly fight against is noticed far more easily.

Got back into making custom figures. First wave has been 4 inch figs. Done a disc thrower, jump jet trooper, and medic. Also a nod light infantry figure. Working on a nod cyborg commando at the moment. I love me some CnC

Awesome video, basically a lore wiki deep dive but in audio format lol. All the footage is very much appreciated as well! I used to play C&C but forgot how cool that world was.

31:31 i never noticed this! Is it just with the hand of nod or can any ither buikding do that? Also one unmentioned feture you might want to cover in the gdi ir scrin counterpart video is the cover system of c&c3/kanes wrath, garasoning helps when you have a building capable of it but do you know your troops will take xover around buidings and map debris? They spread out to reduce splash damage as well as get a straight uo damage reduction when doing this, its a super cool detail that not even many modern RTS have, also coreect me if im wrong but cant tib infused troops also heal in tib fields?

The contrast between Tiberium Dawn and Renegade Nod troops reminds me of the GI Joe comic by Larry Hama. In one of the flashback panels we see an early Cobra squad of militia types wearing Cobra bandanas as face masks before they had a larger funding base to afford the Viper uniforms.
