UNLV cannot give him anything in writing even if they wanted to. you're not allowed to recruit with promise of x amount of NIL money. everyone does it, but you're not allowed to. And without anything in writing, there is no proof that UNLV recruited him with promise of NIL money and thus even if he's basically accusing UNLV of recruiting violations, there's no proof of any violation. However, this hurts UNLV recruiting going forward, because their words can't be trusted. they can way whatever they want to a recruit, but whereas other schools are probably honoring their verbal agreements, UNLV isn't in this case and that could hurt them.
@LVLawyerEsqАй бұрын
The NIL collective could have if there was an official agreement.
@cusesportstalkАй бұрын
In terms of the schools, you're totally right. The most they can do, from our past conversations with legal experts, is tell student athletes "a player like you normally makes $xxx,xxx through our collective." So essentially, a player can be given an amount that they can expect, but the schools aren't legally allowed to be promise anything.

The timing is questionable. On his podcast, Coach JB said he spoke with a friend of his who is on staff at UNLV. The guy told Coach JB that Sluka and his agent tried to leverage his play and the team's ranked status for $300k. The school said no do he bailed. There is a feeling that a P5 school reached out to him and since his value is high it was best to sit out the rest of the season in order to get the bag on the off-season.

The facts are the facts. There was a 100k verbal negotiation which was never approved or brought up to the unlv collective which has to approve all nil deals. This kid has an agent who didn't even persue or get it in writing before he signed his letter of intent. That's why there is nothing in writing. He has a bad agent who says he can get his players money but can't even make sure it in writing and guaranteed b4 allowing him to sign.

I don't believe contracts will put an end to situations like this, but they will definitely put some structure to pay for play. The NFL has contracts and players still hold out once they outperform the contract. Should be interesting to see how all this plays out.

Schools cannot pay students to play. However the NIL allows the school to share profits from merch, ticket sales, ect... UNLV needs to try to resolve the issue. Get something in writing to establish a percentage of profits the school makes. It might not be up front money, but if UNLV makes a good run this year, sky is the limit
