What I love about No Doubt is that Gwen and the guitarist were in a serious relationship when they started the band, but it wasn't until after they broke up and she started writing songs about their split (like this) that the band really took off. She made me a grandfather just this year and she played this for me after giving birth....how I love the way music touches everything you feel inside... Talk about foreshadowing. Gwen slowly pushed to the forefront, and then the removal of the guys, leaving her alone. Kind of exactly what happened. Still, Gwen has one of the most unique voices out there. Amazing talent. But No Doubt was amazing together. Incredible sound. Love this song, one of the best ever.

callum Roberts the meaning that I get from the song is that she's singing about a man that she was and still is very much in love with. Even tho she has these feelings, the feelings aren't reciprocated. He's fallen out of love w/her, and is trying to tell her that but she doesn't want to hear it. Bc if it actually comes outta his mouth, then she'll have to believe it's true. She wants to hold on to the fantasy that they'll end up back in love the way they were, but deep down she knows that it'll never be. She knows their love is dying. I've ended a short but intense, confusing relationship 2 days ago (01/09/23) and I feel so embraced by this song. I told the guy during our last phone call, "if you really decide it's over for us, please don't text me about it, I'll get it from your silence and leave you alone". Welp, this was Friday night, now it's Sunday morning and I still haven't got a text. I guess it's really over. Last night I went to a pub with my friend in a failed attempt to drink the overwhelmingness away and that was when I heard this song fully for the first time. Of course it made me feel no better but I feel like I can relate so much to the lyrics right now. "Don't speak, I know just what you're saying, don't tell me 'cause it hurts". It does hurt, but I learned so much from it (even from all the lies and secrets from both parts). A canon event that cannot be interfered, as people say. I don't even know why I'm writing this. I used to have this tradition of leaving comments under KZbin videos just so I could check them years later and remember what I was feeling/going through at the time, like a time capsule. I hope I can re-read this comment in a couple years and celebrate that I'm in a better place, mentally and physically. My English is not perfect right now as I decided to not check for mistakes on Google Translator, I'm writing all these things from my heart. From now on, I definitely need to start doing more things from the heart. Anyways, thank you No Doubt for so many beautiful songs people from all around the world can relate to.
