This is one of the few where the remake is better. This version emphasizes the beat more and fills in the gaps that left the original one feeling thin and sparse. This version gave a great song the production value it deserves.

It's really hard since I loved the original Talk Talk version a lot. But she does this so well and the music is outstanding so I'll give it a dead heat as they are equally great songs that both bring me to tears. They don't make stuff like this hardly anymore.

I agree with you. This is an excellent cover of an amazing song. I almost never choose covers over originals because it feels like a betrayal. But in this circumstance, I have to say I can actually point out a real reason why I like the original better. This version is very stylized, especially in the vocals. It is a very polished version of the original and especially with the keyboards, it definitely adds more dimensions. But the keys lose the dreamy quality they had in the original, and the original vocals were more plaintive and strained. It added a more soulful and genuine quality that is hard to put a finger on it properly describe, but if you get it you get it. Mark Hollis's voice was as effective for what it struggled to do as it was for anything it did easily.

I discovered the original one from Talk Talk too but refrained from downloading immediately… well a year and a half later and many more song downloads later the music at my work started to change as it does every few months and at the time it went from 2010s & 20s hits to the 70s and 80s and thats when I finally could hear Talk Talks version being played 😅

Please spare a thought for the wonderful Mark Hollis who wrote this song and who died yesterday, 25th February 2019. For those who don't know, Mark Hollis was lead singer of the 80's British band "Talk Talk." sorry Mara but im afraid your wrong i know for fact as im in britain in scotland and back in 1992 started working doing security at all the major events in england and scotland main raves festivals concerts film sets etc and in mid 90s actually did security for no doubt a couple of times at reading phoenix festival then year or 2 later glastonbury i saw them perform before they hit big time and said to a friend what a band as when you work behind the scenes itd really shock you how BAD SOUNDING OUT OF TUNE famous artists and groups relying on autotunes and computers changing voices its terrible but when rehearse dont use computers and WOW WOW WOW i have been shocked by some of best for being terrible household names lol i did the v.i.p and the hotels where they stayed and went to cpl partys with them all could name n shame lmaooo loved liam g and the late great Keith Flint of the PRODIGY may he rest in peace i loved that man he was a generous selfless gentleman who id priveledge of few long chats and deep chats with him in the hotel after reading once my shift stopped him n liam g invited me to party well kidnapped the sweaty was the words out 2 of them as grabbed me to lift and party i wasnt struggling lol when that video was made back too yourself Mara on the screen playing gwens ex husbands are all well known tv and film stars of Britain the 1st husband was in one of the last series of in the line of duty she poisoned him 2nd with car is famous actor too in uk and film so sorry afraid not the group but group are in some of court scenes just not her victims reason i know as it was filmed here and recorded here no doubt took off in uk then america when they came were newbies nobody heard of within a week at 1 the small tents for artists not main stage they were signed by the next gig they were superstars song at number1 then following years glastonbury was amazing a great band and great singer similar story with cardigans that year too just to let you know Brian in Scotland a shout out too the Specialized Crew and dream time by fck we had some right amazing times ill never forget kids nowadays stuck to idiot boxes noy out and about meeting other sex playing wi m8s mischief even football or bikes my mum couldnt keep me in lol hope anyone reading this that you and your familes are all good and healthy after cpl years of nasty stuff get your stereos on look thru your tunes that gave you goosebumps and give them some high volume and heavy bass and where you live rock that place with your pounding bass peace and happines all from not so sunny scotland hahahahha

i remember being around 5-6 years old & my mom having mtv playing while i was getting ready for daycare. this video came on & i stopped to watch. i was instantly mesmerized (even though i probably shouldn’t have been watching it 😅). gwen’s voice, her looks, everything had me hooked. i asked my mom who she was & as soon as she explained who gwen & no doubt were i became a fan. the first cd i ever bought was her “love, angel, music, baby” album. i still adore no doubt & gwen’s solo work to this day. ❤

This covered version more popular n famous than the old one which BS’s ex fans hate it coz her little red wagon not popular and famous n her Kerosene is a song co-written and recorded by American country music artist ML! She completely rewrote the melody of someone else’s song and then she was accused of Plagiarism, she had to recognize the author as a co-author!
