I think my fav Klay moment was his defense in the 2016 playoffs. He rarely comes up as a lockdown guy, but he was insane during that run.
@willingexile33743 ай бұрын
My two cents, as a fan: 1) There is much more tension in the Golden State locker room than we think. 2) Klay felt slighted because of the contract numbers Wiggins and Draymond got, in comparison to what was offered to him. 3) The team he joins in Dallas has a better chance of winning. 4) Given number 3, he can put up his numbers without having the pressure of carrying the team. I don't think joining the Lakers would satisfy both his personal agenda and his chances of winning a title. From Dallas POV - they didn't necessarily get better, but it gives them flexibility to deal with the non-Luka minutes.

Did we all watch the same Klay last year? If it's true that he turned down 4 years for ~20 mil a year w/ LA then I think they should be thanking jebus he did so. For those numbers it was more likely he'd ruin their cap for years than help them win a title

As a Mavs fan who loved what DJJ brought; it was a career year for him. There is nothing in his history that says that is sustainable. From a metric standpoint Marshall is in a better position in every category than DJJ was coming to the Mavs from the bulls. It is more likely for Marshall to have a similar play to his last 3 ish seasons than DJJ to continue a career year

_NEWS FLASH:_ *"Klay Thompson has just been sighted. He washed up on a Corpus Christi beach."* He was once great, and he _still got the max to sit for 2 seasons after career-threatening injuries._ Expecting another big contract at this stage is clown-worthy, regardless of Poole and Draymond's (over)valueation.
@rorybreasail12043 ай бұрын
Re: the Klay contract decison. The main factor is that the Warriors weren't offering that same extension *today*, that was a prior offer. They made him zero offers during free agency, so it's not clear if it's about money or respect, but we can't say he's taking less to leave - the Warriors simply decided to move on.

Melton is not a bad signing, but that is a 12M+ MLE, and I thought that can rather be for a couple of rotational guy like Wagner and Okogie. Plus, its another guard after trading for Waters III from OKC. They should have trade GP2 and Looney for 2 nd round picks, and sign wings and forwards, instead of another guard. Celtic bigs are operating in the Perimeter, and still has a very strong wing lineup. I thought Dubs could have considered something similar in Mo Wagner and Josh Okogie.

White Rock really sucks as a lake (has some pretty trails nearby)...but the lake itself is mostly sludgy pond...only 18 feet max depth, but there are some solid lakes in the vicinity, Lake Lewisville, Lake Lavon, Lake Grapevine, Lake Ray Roberts and yes as mentioned Lake Ray Hubbard. He could also fly to the Gulf Coast in probably an hour and hit the ocean :)

Yes, people who have never been to metro Dallas/Ft Worth. Don’t realize it has quite a few lakes around. They are like I was in 2011 when I moved here. I had been here prior on business trips, but they were in and out. I was living in Atlanta at the time. I had no idea there was this many lakes here. He knows though. He been here a million times via NBA.

I don't like this move for Dallas....I think he's washed personally...but if they keep Klay on the bench as a 6th man and Naji Marshall turns out to be as good as Derrick Jones Jr, I can admit begrudgingly that Klay is probably overall better than Josh Green (worse defender but better offensively) and he does bring some championship pedigree. They didn't give up very much to get him. The main issue is really he is too confident to shoot 0-10 and keep shooting when he clearly doesn't have it. I saw a Warriors fan saying he was washed and he "shoots your team out of games", a la Westbrick. Best case scenario he becomes late career Ray Allen. Worst case scenario he becomes late career Chandler Parsons. The Celtics did expose that the Mavs were great at corner 3s but couldn't buy any non corner 3s, so Klay could probably hit some of those. 75% chance in my mind this is a net negative and causes the Mavs to lose in the first round...because the gravitas of the "Klay Thompson" name causes him to get more minutes than defensive stopper guys like Grimes and Marshall who actually help win. Late career guys who just don't have the level of effectiveness as their resume from years past and may lack the humility to take a lesser role can become an albatross on your team. The coach wants to honor and give them respect but what do you do when the production doesn't match the famousness of the player? So sad the Lakers didn't get him instead. SMH. The only silver lining is that this is really a sign that despite losing in the Finals, this kind of shows that the Mavs have credibility where marquee free agents actually want to come here and play with Luka. That alone is kind of huge
@shaft90003 ай бұрын
I believe much of it depends on him seeing eye-to eye with Kidd and Luka. And yeah - personally living in L.A. since '99, I've witnessed the demise of the Lakers firsthand. To go from Shaq&Kobe&Phil w/ the Logo and Jerry Buss behind the scenes...to now this retarded _manage a trios_ of Jeannie, Pelinka and LeBron. Smdh.

He replaces Tim Hardaway who was the Mavs third leading scorer last season in terms of average. He is better offensively and defensively than Hardaway and for a little less per season. They needed someone to be a more legitimate 3rd option.

I think Dallas got worse. I think they should have kept Jones and instead they went hunting for a big name who hasn't been the guy he was for a long time. Klay Thompson is not an upgrade. Dallas was a great defensive team at the end of last season and I don't think they're going to be that with the guys they've got wearing the jersey this year.
@dropthebates3 ай бұрын
Klay Thompson fills the void for THJ not DJJ. I get you’re probably referring to starters but it’s the closing lineups that the Mavs have always valued and now adding Marshall in (he’s the real player they are replacing DJJ with) he fills that void nicely. Better offensive player than DJJ and also solid defensively. Grimes is about twice a better player than Josh Green and does everything he did better. THJ was a liability on defense and Klay at least had a track record of good defensive ability. I really don’t understand how the loss of DJJ can make you think that ESPECIALLY when Dallas still has Gafford, Lively and PJ who are all lock down defenders
@jacktheleper44683 ай бұрын
I don't quite think Zeke will fill in DJJ's role to the same extent. The only void THJ left was for Garbage time. They couldve resigned DJJ for much less than klay and then focused on finding a good spacer with 3's that isnt 17 million a year. Klays name inflated his value. They overpaid and committed waaaaay too much for a rapidly declining klay. Harrison fumbled a layup in favor of a PR move. Josh Greens theoretical potential might be more valuable than klay. Hes a legend. He can still shoot. But is awful in virtually every other facet of his game. This was 100% making a PR move they could market over logical moves that would help them improve. The Mavs had a great thing going and Harrison goofed hard. @@dropthebates

Klay is a clear upgrade over Tom Hardaway Jr
@Colinkrauss13 ай бұрын
They can’t possibly get that much worse on defense from losing DJJ and Josh Green. You still have Lively and Gafford protecting the rim at a very high level. You still have PJ, who showed he’s a high quality defender against the most important position on other teams. Naji Marshall has size and athleticism. Kyrie can tryhard his way to average/good defense. We’ll see how Luka approaches defense next year, but that’s the weak link. Maxi when healthy is still their secret weapon. That’s your top 7, not even including Klay himself or Exum.
