Not many people know this, but Noel is only 3' 11 inches. He's kept it quiet and also camera angles make it look like he's 4'

What Noel said about TV shows going on for too long I totally agree, I mean look at The Chase on ITV1..... it never has a break, plus they keep repeating editions from years ago!

"Cheap and regular" is the phrase what is used. Deal or No Deal with Noel was exactly the same. Deal or No Deal in 2006 when this interviewed aired was on air almost all year, with a short break over summer.

@@johnking5174Perhaps so, except The Chase has long outlived even Deal or No Deal's timeline.... it's been in continuous since 2009!

@@Da1Dez The Chase has become victim of ITV decision to not take a chance with anything else. Deal or No Deal when on Channel 4 was before streaming became popular. It used to attract at it's peak 5 million viewers at 4.15pm, and those 5 million would then stay for either Richard and Judy show or The Paul O'Grady Show. This was the hey day era of Deal, 2006 to 2009.

I read somewhere that Channel 4 bosses have not yet renewed Noels contract foranother series o Deal or No Deal, Which is a shame, as for the past 10 years or so, Ifor one, have really enjoyed watching the show. Noel is great as presenter, and heworks really well with this kind of format. Being such a good people person, he takeswhat is basically a game of opening boxes, but the banter between him, the contestant, and the banker, really make it compelling viewing. I did have it on permanent seriesrecord, to watch in the evenings, but since its been off air, I have really missed it.

Hi Gary, I can confirm that I contacted Channel 4 and Deal will be back in the autumn with new episodes. Noel also clarified on his website that Deal is not ending, and a new era will commence for the show in 2017. At the moment Noel and the team have filmed episodes which will take the show right up to and over Christmas 2016. Here is what Noel had to say - Take your time to read it. "Inevitably there have been tabloid journalists salivating at the prospect of running a story that Deal has been axed. Well, stand down press chums, Deal will never be axed. It may come to the end of its natural life-all game show formats do as Chris Tarrant will testify- but after 10 brilliant years and almost 3000 shows our place in the TV Hall of Fame is justified and guaranteed. What is seldom appreciated is that Deal was always recorded in one huge chunk generally between Nov and May. I presented 288 Shows in each season, often 4 a day and frequently 17 per week-by far the most punishing schedule in British TV history. Its testimony to the professionalism of an outstanding team that the high standards of entertainment were always maintained. May 7th 2015 we ended the last block and Channel 4 had nearly 300 shows to start scheduling in late 2015 and throughout 2016. The shows you see now are over a year old and you’re right I just get younger and younger (see the WebMag feature on the incredible EMPpad) and with scheduling breaks for various Channel 4 events and the Olympics, they take us almost to the end of the year. At this point something very special will hit your screens. Yes, there will be more Deals but in the tradition of my long TV career we will surprise you with something very different and something I’ve always wanted to do with this extraordinary format. I have promised Jay Hunt, Chief Creative Officer Channel 4 that my lips will remain sealed until she makes the announcement. Indeed, I have taken out an injunction to protect the secrecy, so expect to see the news on the interwebby any time now! Jay, honestly it won’t have come from me!! I hope this helps you Gary?

Hi John, Thanks for taking the time to inform me of the currentsituation regarding Deal or no Deal. I am really glad to read that ithas not been axed, and look forward to its return later in the year. You say they are planning on a revamp of the original show, thisis great, but I only hope it does not change too much from the originalformat that we have all come to know and love. Once again, thanksfor taking the time to respond to my enquiry regarding the show.

Incidently John, I personally know two people who have appeared ascontestants on Deal. And both told me how nice Mr Edmonds was, even though 4 episodes were recorded each day. He remained thetrue professional that he is, despite the gruelling recording schedule.I've know for some years, that most game shows are recorded inblocks of between 4 - 6 episodes a day. Even Bruce Forsyth oftenjoked on the audience being much better than the previous week. That is because the joke was, it was the same audience. He saidone season of Play your Cards Right could be recorded in just acouple of weeks. I know Deal runs for much of the year, hence theneed to record multiple episodes up front to keep its continuity.I look forward to its return in the Autumn. Cheers.

I found out back in the earlier days he recorded three shows a day, two in the morning/early afternoon and an evening recording. The same audience would see the morning/early afternoon recording, while a different audience was used for the evening. Three shows a day Monday to Friday with just two on a Saturday made it 17 shows in a week. I remember one episode where one of the audience members was told by the banker to leave, Noel escorted them outside, and it was the first time we saw outside the studio in daylight. Noel then said "Oh we have a different eco system here in Bristol", as we saw no leaves on trees and it looked freezing, but the episode aired in June.

One person I know who was an old neighbour back in the early 1970'stold us he recorded his show around March but the show didn't go toair until around September of that same year. So, at the time, there was around a 6 month delay between the show being recorded, andappearing on tv. An old school friend's mother recorded her showlate 2011 but her show was not aired until June of the followingyear. She told me they were recording 4 shows at the time each day.But not recording at weekends.

5:15 - I think 1996 would have been the best time for Noel's House Party should have ended, not 1995 as Noel suggested here. It had reached 100 shows by March 1996. That is when it should have ended. In the autumn of 1996 for the new series Noel changed the opening titles, music, content and whole feel of the show, which started the downhill path of the show.

I'm a bit torn on that. Generally speaking, I think you're right. But I wasn't personally all that impressed with series 5. It had its moments, but I remember it having a very weary feel to it a lot of the time. Series 4 had a whiff of turning stale. Not dramatically, but enough to make you realise that it wasn't immortal and that there's a sell by date on even the biggest of hits. So if I were Noel, I would have considered its future at exactly the time he said he did. I can understand why they dragged it on so far past its prime. Because, annoyingly, even when it reached rock bottom there were still odd moments that were promising. A good Gotcha, a funny NTV reaction etc.

Reaching 100 episodes would have been the best point to bale, that is why I say Spring 1996 was the point it should have ended. 100 episodes was a key point in any show, and it is at that point shows needs to think of either taking a break, which Noel could have done, or axe it all together. If you think about it, if the show was rested, and just came back for a 1996 Christmas Special, maybe an Easter 1997 Special, they could have brought back a full series in the autumn of 1997, had a perfect break, and had time to freshen up the show. The longer a show is off screen the better. This is why Ant and Dec only do one series a year of their Saturday Night Takeaway, usually 6-8 episodes in a year.

I suppose it wouldn't have been a bad point to rest it. I'd actually like to see it return now. Maybe not as a series, but certainly as a one off and then perhaps further specials if it went down well. It's a shame it went out on a low, and would be nice to give it a new opportunity to put on one or two good shows for old times sake. Maybe Noel has recently talked himself out of any BBC interest though, with that video he put out a few weeks back.

Noel will not return to the BBC, after his views on the licence fee and how the BBC should be run and funded, I do not see them ever hiring Noel back. He can not bring it back to ITV as Ant and Dec have the monopoly on it there.

If you think about it, back in mid 90's, it was just still the four channels ( before Channel 5 came about in '97 ) we had. SKY was there but not as strong as it is now with multiple channels to choose from. No red button if watching BBC via SKY to pull that extra gimmic to a show, no record, unless VHS. In 95/96, I feel not knowing the effect of SKY as it is today, NHP dominated the BBC on Saturday Nights which I think 'Give Us A Break' was the lead up program. End then..maybe, end how it did in '99. But after reading it was brought up in April ( 2018 ) as a possibility but got turned down say's something. Imagine..I loved 'The Big Breakfast' every morning on Channel 4...can they re do this as well as it was having Chris and Gabby, or even 'Joe' form Neighbours...simply..No...All cracking British TV sadly gone.

I never liked Edmonds much because he was too much of a grey man with his neat suit and tie and carefully-styled hair, no wonder the grannies lurved him..:)...I also can't stand Graham Norton and his silly giggling, he should have stuck to acting, he was fabulous as the hyper priest in that Father Ted episode..:)...Jonathan Ross is okay but a bit immature and lightweight... PS- one of the best presenters currently around is Alex Zane, he should get his own irreverent chat show or something.
