There's just sometimes in your life you'll need to be sad. Maybe you've lost a loved one, maybe you've lost love, maybe you've lost hope and soul, maybe you just don't know what to do. But in these sad times, we have the music. The music has no opinion, it can't judge you. But it can reach out, it can be your friend, it can show you all the great and wonderful in life. And that's what Oasis did. They were our friends. They were our loves. They were and will forever be here for us. That's a beautiful thing isn't it?

Noel Gallagher truly has a special gift to be able to blend lyrics, chords and melody with such wonderful craftsmanship. Very few songwriters are able to pull this off with such consistency. Keep in mind that Noel Gallagher was THE SONGWRITER for Oasis and he's the one that controlled the quality of what the band released. The man is an absolute genius, and the world is better because of him.

I was always kind of amazed and intrigued about this aspect of Oasis; there are a number of bands with a ‘songwriter’ who then hands this off to a lead singer, sometimes a lead guitar player who adds solos or lead work, etc. But it’s usually clear that the songwriter wouldn’t be capable of filling any of those roles effectively, which is part of why he has the band around him and things work. While LG (in his prime)’s voice, swagger etc were crucial to Oasis’ success, once you started seeing Noel playing shows and songs on the side more and more, it became clear that he was perfectly capable of singing those songs in a just as powerful, but completely different, fashion. The songs would have been really emotional, powerful ballads or, in the case of more heavy material (I can actually picture Noel’s voice doing “Morning Glory”) a more epic, wailing, but still emotive style of songs. Probably would’ve been a cult band, but the point of my accidental essay is that you almost never see an “I’m just the songwriter” so capable of being almost everything.

This song has been there for me more than I could have ever wished. One of the most beautiful songs ever. Whenever you feel down in yourself, music is always still there to be your friend.

The magic of Noel is his everyday speaking voice would lead you to believe he has all the singing ability of a manc plumber. But then he does an acoustic version of an Oasis anthem, and his voice is stunning.
