Is Morrissey just being an ironic paddy? I'm still unconvinced that he's really pushing what he's singing about because it could just be an expression of what he sees in England. You can't deny that there are nationalists and England-for-the-English groups. That's the problem with liberal elites is that they want to ignore it or try to supplant it with non-realities. Anyways, it's still pretty funny when people of Irish Catholic background acting all English now. Isn't one of the English Nationalists leaders a Lesbian Irish chick as well? What's Rightwing in Europe would be considered far left in the US of A, especially Morrissey's Animal-rights stance.

The National Front Disco is a kick ass song, and I never really looked far into it other than the fact that it was an obviously nationalist song, but who cares. People aren't allowed to express themselves lyrically through music anymore? Freedom of speech, and I myself am mostly about protecting the rights of immigrants and the vulnerable, but I'd still listen to National Front Disco today, because it is one of Morrissey's best songs (especially live) and just an all around kick ass rock and roll song.

I’ve always took the song as a condemnation of the national front indoctrinating a young man that doesn’t know any better. Either that or just making fun of the whole thing. I doubt the song was meant to be taken seriously either way.

I am a black guy who used to love the eloquence, mordant wit, and trenhant, pithy statements of Morrissey. The Smiths were truly an emotional support for me. Imagine then my disappointment at the current Morrissey, and his support for the far-right. He gave an insight back in the 80s as to his anti non White predilections by insisting that reggae is "vile" and a "total glorification of Black supremacy" I defended him at the time, beguiled as i was by the plangency and avant garde poetry of the Queen is Dead. Now i see that he was never truly worldly, or in actual fact well read. I could educate him as to the Moorish origins of classical literature( the moors were Black by the way) . I liked early Oasis too, but Noel Gallagher needs to step out of his provincial world of ignorance and stop defending him. Morrissey is clearly unable to sublimate his much talked about sexual frustrations, borne of a low self esteem through a cold father and cosseting eccentric mother. He thereby employs transference through hatred of otherness(in his case race). There is nothing more unedifying than the perrenialy frustrated, racist clod who is unable to transcend the ghosts of his childhood.
@ssmith9543 жыл бұрын
Well said, couldn't agree more. Loved The Smiths but I switched off after "Bengali in Platforms". Since then he's only become more explicit in his racism and intolerance. Quite sad for a gay man of Irish immigrant stock. It would have been nice had a been a champion of social inclusion.

If Noel says he is not racist then it must be gospel How can a man of such great literal talent be a racist This is the man who made poetic music for the outcasts of society ie including immigrants He comes from the melting pot of mixed communities ie Madchester If Noel says he is not a racist I for one believe .When he says England for the English he just means England for the English ie immigrants born in England ,because obviously they are English -simples.Obviosely as an immigrant himself he remembers the signs on most doors -Room fir rent NO Irish, NOdogs ,NO Bl- -is. Hence his hatred of racism - he himself has been a victim of racist in all its ugly forms .I have heard racist remarks against him : Go back to Ireland -Potato head- IRA supporter -Paddy- Irish Gypsy-etc etc all because he has Irish roots but hey he’s English .My friend Raj’s dad fought for the British army against Hitler, he then worked as a Subpostmaster for 30 years - Raj was born in London and is English as Morrisey (did Morrissey’s dad fight for the English or against them ??) Why is this flaccid man of Irish heritage telling me "England for the English?"
@TwistyThreeFifty4 жыл бұрын
@K PD Nothing. Ireland has a long proud history and culture SEPARATE and DISTINCT from England. I'm just highlighting the hypocrisy of Morrissey. He's an ethnically Irish, living in uk (and usa) telling England should be for English.
@TwistyThreeFifty4 жыл бұрын
@K PD I don't think your Indo European theory is at all true. Ordinary people have no way of knowing their DNA history dating back to 4000 years. Most people don't even know who their great grandfather is. I'm not really a fan of the "England losing it's englishness" narrative. Because there is no definition of Englishness. What's more, it's an argument almost entirely made by individuals who are increasingly losing contact with society by virtue of their inability to keep up with societal progress. I don't think it's a coincidence that Morrissey's songs are entirely about this social desolation. But even if you do believe in a stereotype of Englishness, I think characters like Morrissey are the LEAST English. He's a vegetarian drama queen, with no stiff upper lip, and no understatement, he's constantly complaining and whining, he constantly seeks attention. He lacks the characteristic politeness and manners, and doesn't abide by English rules of etiquette. If you look at the lead singer of the cure, Robert Smith, you'll see a lot more English traits. Take a look at his acceptance of his lifetime achievement award.
@TwistyThreeFifty4 жыл бұрын
@K PD I'm not denying that it isn't true. Although, I'm only familiar of this description in linguistic terms, not genetic. I'm saying that people of Morrissey's generation and older had no knowledge of this. People right now have no knowledge of this. And yet they bonded just fine as English people.
@TwistyThreeFifty4 жыл бұрын
@K PD so I guess you would want white, non native Australians to move back to Britain, in order to keep the Australian population a native majority?
