I'm reading homegoing this year, I'm really excited! Also to anyone interested in reading 100 years of solitude, be aware that there's a whole heap of content warnings that never get mentioned (inc*st, ped*philia, su*cide, r*pe, traumatic childbirth etc.). I read the book this month and was honestly shocked that nobody ever mentions these things.

Super excited for Carrie Soto is Back as well!!! TJR is a beast! But I have to say I personally love the monochromatic old school 80's vibe on the US cover. It's a welcome change from the animated covers and the whole pink, blue, yellow color palette a lot of publishers are using.

I've seen so many people over my years of watching booktube talk about how Wuthering Heights often is described as romantic and a love story when it is really a revenge story, and how frustrating that is partially because then readers go into it with certain ideas and comparisons in mind and end up not liking it. omg I can't believe we're almost halfway through the year! I'm definitely doing this video later this month!!

Loved hearing about these books! Have now added quite a few to my tbr :) Here are my answers, out of the 35 books I have read thus far this year: - Best book: Anxious People. I looooved this one. I listened to the audiobook, and I thought it was fantastic. I went into it not really knowing what it was about and I just loved the characters he created, and how he wove the story together. My first 5 star read of the year for a fiction book. - Best Sequel: Here's to Us. I loved it. Just as much as I loved the first book (maybe even a little more? I don't know, but either way, it was great, highly enjoyable). - Biggest Surprise: In maybe not a positive way, maybe the biggest surprise for me was Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. It got hyped up so much, I heard so many people on book tube rave about it, and two of my irl friends read it and loved it, and so I just had extremely high expectations. I still did enjoy the book, it was a 4 star read for me, but I just wasn't as blown away as so many others were. I think part of it was that not too much of the book was surprising to me. I figured out most of the stuff before it was revealed, and I think that took away some of the emotional aspect of it for me. - New (to me) author: Probably either Emily Henry (I really enjoyed both Beach Read and People We Meet on Vacation) or Fredrik Backman (as mentioned already, Anxious People was my fav read this year so far, and I also did enjoy A Man Called Ove). - Fictional Crush: Nick Nelson from Heartstopper series (protect him at all costs). Also Harry from Seven Husbands. The best man.

@@user-qu8zs7vs1x I thought the writing style was forced and made reading it laborious. Saint took some really interesting stuff from Greek mythology and managed to make it boring. She didn’t do a good job at making the reader feel the tension and suspense. Elektra was an insufferable character, and I’m not sure it was on purpose?? and to name the book after her, with how littler she matters in the story, is odd. Overall I just found it boring and uninspired. She didn’t really add much to the original story

Kyra, there is a story line that essentially spoils the entire book of the glass hotel. SOT would still make sense if you hadn’t read glass hotel, but glass hotel would not be as good of a read if you read SOT first…hope that makes sense

@@kyrasaturn that’s great that you found a copy you’re going to love it! It’s not directly connected in the sense of being a sequel, there’s no continuation of plot really, but there are some characters from glass hotel that play pretty important roles in SoT. I don’t think you’d be lost by any means if you just read SoT or read it first bc those few characters are still introduced, but you might not be able to read them as deeply. I could see people enjoying the books in reverse order but I think it was a great reading experience going GH then SoT!
