Yes, came to the comments to mention this and that it's not necessarily romance like you'd think of it and the prose makes it take longer to read, or maybe that was just my experience of it. So it took me the same amount of time to read as a book twice as long. I did not regret this time though as it was one of my favorites of 2022.

I definitely suggest The Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin! I was absolutely enthralled by the series, not to mention her writing is great and for a fantasy series it’s also great for “literature people” because there’s a ton to unpack and great themes. But you can also just get lost in the world and enjoy the books at the same time. She also won the Hugo Award for each of the three books in the trilogy (which I believe has never been done before).

Having a truly bummer morning (state of the US + sick family) and seeing you had a new video really brightened my day! Thanks a million! Maybe not the greatest adventure recommendation because I wouldn't exactly call it a page turner but you might try Killing Commendatore by Haruki Murakami. I don't know if I've seen you read much Murakami and this one is my favorite. My other recommendations would be to try out mysteries. I really enjoy all of Anthony Horowitz's books and they are all pretty light. I like the Magpie Murders the best. For more psychological mystery, In the Woods by Tana French is gripping and haunting, as is almost all of her Dublin detectives series. The Likeness and Broken Harbor were also very haunting. I also just finished Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, which was very gripping but I will admit that I hated it due to a plot twist that happens 3/4s in but hey it was very readable and fast, even for a slow reader like me. Thanks again for being a bright spot in my crummy day!

Also, Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend, about Morrigan who thinks she's horribly unlucky until a man named Jupiter North shows up on her eleventh birthday and saves her life by taking her to a completely different world called Nevermoor! Oooo I have some adventurous recs that might work for you!! I think fantasy/sci-fi is the genre that usually fits for just a good-time romp but I also know you don’t tend to read super hardcore fantasy or sci-fi, so maybe some light fantasy or light sci-fi would work! For sci-fi, a book I read on one day that reminds me of Project Hail Mary (near future, light sci-fi, strong first person narrative voice, quirky first contact) and Ready Player One (a large scale immersive puzzle to solve) is An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green. The bonus is that it and its sequel have more interesting thematic conversations from either of those comp titles. Hank has a lot to say about fame, existing online, extremism and misinformation, etc. and how internet game can put strain on people’s relationships. It’s sometimes classified as YA which I don’t get at all. Another rec is a new release called The Adventures of Amina al-Sarafi. It’s fantasy but really light. Not very complicated magic or politics. It’s a pirate adventure about a middle aged mother who is a retired notorious pirate thief who gets dragged back into a last mission. I’ve heard the representation of Middle Eastern history culture and religion is great although I cannot speak to that personally. Again the narrative voice is strong, it’s funny, and just an all around fun time.

My recommendation is Mask of Mirrors by M.A. Carrick. It is an adult fantasy that will be a trilogy, the third and final book comes out in August this year I believe. Basic premise is there is a con artist named Ren who is trying to pull this elaborate con on a noble family to make a better life for herself and her sister Tess. There is political intrigue, there’s elaborate plot, there’s some romance, and a character like Zorro?! It’s amazing and the second book is even more fast paced and amazing! Couldn’t put them down. It takes a little bit to understand how the Venetian inspired world works but trust me, be patient because the payoff is worth it!! Ultimate favorite book of last year! Hope you get out of your slump!

My TBR is so large, I didn't realize I had a lot of these books on it already lol. But I have two book recommendations! First one is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, it has a large cast of characters planning and going through with a heist. When you mentioned adventure, I thought of these three books: 1) The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle - engrossing because of its creative plot and narrative tool, in addition to the mystery. 2) The Shadow of the Wind - also a good mystery adventure book with gothic themes. 3) All The Names by José Saramago - gives a sense of adventure because the protagonist is trying to find it in his mundane life.

I gave Luster 5 stars but it was definitely a mood read for me. I was in the space of no plot just vibes and this book thrived for me👏🏻✨

I totally agree with the Starless Sea as a recommendation! One of my all time favorite books!! I also have to recommend the An Ember in the Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir. I absolutely love all the adventure and moral dilemmas.😊 Edit: I also love This Is How You Lose The Time War❤

I know you've read These Violent Delights, but I highly recommend its sequel, Our Violent Ends! Very plot driven, plus adventure, mystery, and romance. The first book in the follow-up duology, Foul Lady Fortune, is also wonderful!

New to your channel so maybe you've already read it but I picked up The Talented Mr Ripley because I love the movie so much. And I finally made the connection that nightcrawling is based on celeste guap when you read the blurb.

I’m not sure if this book fits what you’re looking for but Braised Pork by An Yu, it’s one of my all time favorites and she does go on an odyssey of sorts and it got me out of a reading slump ! 🫶🏼 loved this video as always !! 🥰

Six of Crows is great! And if you haven't read the Eragon series yet, I recommend that you do! I'm planning a reread this year since it's been so long since I've read them.

I HIGHLY recommend An Ember in the Ashes series. It's Y.A. but from what I recall, even Fictional Fates loved the series so much! It gripped me from the very beginning until the very end

Becky Chambers The Waferers Series is so good!! I def lost sleep over it, it’s got space adventure but what I love most is the characters are all alien and the most human I’ve ever read. So deeply human, and also her writing challenges the way we think about gender and gender identities. Just amazing.
