The Toyota Sprinter Trueno was never meant to be a JDM superstar but when it became the main star of the Japanese manga, Initial D, everyone understood the capability of this little underpowered hatch. Though the days of delivering tofu on Mount Akina have passed, this particular Hachiroku has been living comfortably in Malaysia and Danial has a bone to pick with it!

Finally someone said it. So many cars are overhyped and overpriced nowadays due to JDM fever. It's really sad for us car enthusiast who grew up appreciating these cars and dreamt of owning them due to their affordability.

Same thing happened with classic muscle cars during the early 2000s when boomers that grew up admiring those cars neared retirement age with disposable income. Sure you finally got that numbers matching Plymouth Cuda you drooled over when you were 15 for 1 million dollars whatnot. but it still is a big old Chrysler metal with a big inefficient engine, overboosted steering and tereible brakes that is about as fast on the quarter mile as a new Toyota Camry V6. I'm not saying people are dumb for liking things they find nostalgic towards, but most of the time you would be paying premium money for a used car

@@ETYPEJaguar38 40k-100k price range cars are the big dogs of those scenes Like the Charger or the good ol R34 Atleast that is the case in my country And the MK3 charger feels like muscle equivalent of the R33 for some reason Anyway, right now here the cool german cars from the 2000’s are what the JDM cars used to do, affordable and good.

I agree with you, it really is overhyped. Same thing with EG, EH, EJ 2D hatchbacks that still is using the original engine that barely made 100hp and asking RM100K+. Even a souped up 4G93 Satria would outperform that for a fraction of the price

Its a collector item even thou theres still many in the world but you rarely see one on everyday drive....superb engineering, equally balance car with 50:50 ratio...thumbs up to the 70s engineers who built this iconic car

Supply and demand... When things are limited they could pump up the price... Same goes for an R34... Never a 500k car... An R35 would smash it all day... But it R34 will cost more these days...

Just like any other collectors' items, its value is not derived from its speed, tech, fuel efficiency and so on. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

Famous in the drifting scene back in the 80s in Japan then popularised by Initial D, so rare to find a good working and pristine condition of AE86 in 2022 (40 years diff), a collectors item for enthusiasts which makes up for its value today. Sure it is "overhyped" now if a stock, bad conditioned and rusted AE86 goes for 200k, thats insane. If a modded, invested and well kept Initial D AE86 goes for 200k, its worth the money as long as you know what you are paying for.

Every jdm tag car is overpriced these days to the point that rhe younger generation (unless daddykasi) will not be able to afford it as how the manufacturers wanted it to be... R34,Supra,Evo, this Ae86, cefiro a31, and the list goes on... same problem. They're not rare but you just dont see them on the road anymore because people pay wayyy too much and let it sit in the garage because they're too expensive to drive. Tragic.......

without initial d, this car wont be a hype... before intial d got into our local TV.. the car just like any toyota corrolla.. ke70 specifically... 5-10k can get you 1... the only fun with this car i can see is that the car now at price 200k... who the heck not happy own a 80s car that can sold at 200k price range

200k? Where? Edit: could be in areas that don’t have alot of them and import laws? Any AE86 over 25k is overpriced Expect for tuned ones with hell alot of expensive parts like now rare bodykits in my opinion. And 200k… better be gold plated one.

converting our currency to USD, it'll be around $46k. Locally here, there are some AE86 that can fetch around that price.

@@NoEqual Well still kind of expensive since my pain limit is around 20000€ which is kinda same in USD now Most expensive AE86 goes for 30000€ so we import some more because some of them were destroyed in rally and our supply in road legal AE86s are running out Like every great car is 10000€-20000€ And above that is rare and expensive or new expensive Toyota Hilux 4 door is a whopping 80000€ because the new car tax here still ridiculous and why is it so expensive? Well because it is not registered as a van, instead it is registered as a car which is the tax that no normal cars get and because of the car tax we get our own Toyota Hilux rebadge called Truckmasters OX which is registered as a truck and it is limited to 80km/h Some laws are pretty weird Like the 25 year import law in the US guys played gran turismo when r34 was still cheaper and by the time they are able to get it, it’s gonna become too expensive but those are the prices that the big dog cars get later I honestly forget sometimes the value of money around the world Cars are expensive in general nowadays
