I tried NoFap back in 2018 because I was in college and I sucked at hookups. Like, I could close easily, but once it was time for steak and eggs, I just couldn’t, and it was embarrassing. I thought it was for sure because I was watching corn and beating it too often. After a few more years of growth and self-reflection, I realized I’m demisexual, and my masculinity just prevented me from accepting it at the time. Nowadays, I love sex, and it’s awesome, but only with the right person who I have a strong connection with. I don't particularly buy it because masturbation or similarly unproductive sexual behaviour exists throughout the animal kingdom not just in humans. There is no established mechanism that produces that effect to motivation - what is weird and unusual is having the ability to see extreme sexual "material" constantly and to jerk off every single day or multiple times a day. But do people who are happy or successful do that? Were monks or similarly chaste people extremely strongly driven with high testosterone? Or is it likely that an anxious, unhealthy, depressed or isolated man without genuine connection to their tribe, social role, labour and culture (includes religion and study) is going to fall back on porn when porn is sold to them. Sex sells, and companies want your money, and they actively don't want you to spend your time not giving money to them. It's the horse before the cart - happy people don't jerk off all day, but they also don't base their entire philosophy off of not doing that. It definitely doesn't help if you are trapped without much to do or people to do things with, and jerking off doesn't help. Poor diet, poor sleep, poor nutrition, high stress and low mood are categorically proven to have a bigger effect on T via established biological mechanisms. And most people in the world are hitting one if not multiple of these barriers. The people who aren't have less issues with ED or depression even if their T isn't that high at standard. Simple in some ways but it's still difficult to just fix.
