Maybe they just don’t agree with the taste of tamarind, since a big amount of Mexican candy got that Edit: I should specify that I’m Mexican, so I’m used to tasting tamarind in candy and fkn love it. But since they’re Irish and had different foods and candies, maybe they’re used to different types of tastes due to the way their tastebuds are, since everyone’s tastebuds are different. It’s like the one thing I saw where if you cut out all artificial sugar from your diet for a good while, your tastebuds would like natural sugar better and prefer it over artificial sugar (gotta double check if I’m right on that tho). Heck, my cousin doesn’t eat as much sweets anymore in the past few years, and actually doesn’t like candy as much if at all since the stuff hasn’t been in his system as much as say mine, since if I see a candy, I’d save it for a good occasion or just eat it there if I haven’t had one in a while (by a while I mean like a few days, I don’t go overboard on candy)

@@kevinberg4623 essentially it's like sweet hot sauce but for fruits, has a nice spicy kick to it. mangos, watermelon, and cucumbers are a good pair. and of course, tajin goes well with it, tajin is a type of salt that's spicy and tangy--also goes well with fruits.

Most of that "red stuff" you see in Mexican candy is a fruit called tamarind (the "lemon/mango" taste they call it). It is in A LOT of Mexican drinks and candy, like the spoons and even those dark packets they were sucking on. It's great lol

The spoon was most likely a combination of powdered peppers, I'm guessing Jalapeños and salt, given the "it's sand!" It's usually mixed with either Tamarind (sour, usually has some gnarly stringy bits that can freak you out if you're not ready for them) or mango/lime, or a combination.
