Noise Cancelling Headphones for Sleeping - Kokoon Unboxing and Review

After over four years of waiting, I finally receive my Kokoon headphones and am able to offer you this initial impressions review. Back in 2015, I backed the Kokoon sleep sensing headphones on Kickstarter. With active and passive noise cancelation, these over-ear headphones are meant to sleep with as they have built-in EEG sensors to monitor the quality of your sleep.
In this video, I unbox these headphones, test them out for the first time, and decide if they are suitable for sleeping in bed.

I’m so desperate for a pair of headphones to sleep in. I work nights, and I’m a full contact sleeper. Really I just move about a lot. I’ve broken numerous earbuds including (but not limited to) AirPods Pro and jabra active 75t. I don’t mind spending the money if it has good sound quality, comfort, and durability. Would you recommend these in that case? I might cry if I spend the $300+ on them just to watch them break soon after.

They do have a 2 week return period. So you could try them out. The only risk is the cost of the shipping. There's also a 1 year warranty in the US

I sleep with my Sony wh-mx1000xm3 all the time and ive never had a problem with them, one great thing is they never get hot and the build in atmosphere control makes it really comfy tbh, do these compare well to the sonys?

You mean the Sony WH-1000XM3, right? Their naming is crap. Anyway, sometimes I have to sleep with mine too (the Sonys), but it tends to get just too hot under them. May I ask how yours do not get hot? Do you live in the Arctic?

I use my JBL Headphones with active noise cancelling just for the mornings at 6am when loud chirping birds wake me up. I put them on for an hour or so and can only sleep with my head up. Seems to work fine. The JBLs were only $160 AUD or so.

Omg im having the same issue with the dang birds so does those JBL headphones block out the bird noises completely

@@hailey9375 Yes they do but then every now and then you get a loud beeping reminder on the JBL to let you know their working ! Which is louder than any bird sound. That’s if their switched on with no music. So best thing to do is put them on with everything switched off including ANC. Seems to work.

My review - not of the video but the product, if it helps anyone looking to purchase this. The product purchased new November 2020, registered an account and the product with the app successfully. The headphone lasted about 5 months, used only a handful of times and then it failed completely. It would not recharge at all after draining overnight when it should have automatically switch off with sleep. Customer service accept product is faulty but would not honour warranty because it wasn’t purchased from an authorised vendor. Recommend any prospective buyer crosscheck the reseller status as you'd definitely need the warranty. While it worked, it was comfortable but sound quality is well below desirable. Battery life is very poor and customer services don't back their product.

@@Platinum989 I use them mostly for listening to music, not so much to sleep with at night since I don't have the noise problem anymore. I would suggest that if you get these headphones to get the recommended pillow, because a hard pillow will not be comfortable when sleeping with these headphones

At least in my experience, you'll still probably be able to hear the external noise, just at a muffled, lower level if that makes sense

Happy for you for quitting to travel. I haven’t seen your other videos but I think if you liven up your personality and put some more work into your videos you can take off. Like you didn’t actually sleep with the headphones and you could have taken the headphones out of their case at the end when you panned the camera over them

I have slept with in ears for years. Most of the time they don't stay in all night but it allows you to fall asleep. You're best bet is to tire yourself out before bed and have complete darkness

I found that there is an art to inserting earplugs. After rolling/squeezing the earplug between your fingers, the trick is to pull up on your ear as you sick it in. It'll expand and block out a majority of the noise. Also not all earplugs are created equal. Don't bother with the cheap ones. There's a huge difference with the high quality ones.

That's NOT how you review sleeping headphones! You should've tested them first for a couple of nights and then give us your impression! Go through all those "boring" app tutorials and tell as all about the app - what functionality it offers, how the EEG works, how much noise it blocks, how it detects noise disturbance and how it reacts, what white noise it offers and how useful they are - in short, cover all the things the producer promises the product will do! Instead, you just focused on sound quality with an external appp like you would with normal headphones. At least you said a few words about using it for side sleepers, otherwise it would've been a complete waste of time.

I don't think this is a good product, i don’t see how one can sleep with headphones on. first of all, they need to be closed to achieve active noise canceling, meaning that the ears will get very hot and that can’t be comfortable, not mentioning the pressure if you sleep on the side, like most people. Other features might be the best, but I don’t believe they can balance the cons

I think it's worth reading over this page on Kokoon's site: kokoon.io/pages/how-it-works The earcups are ventilated, and a certain type of pillow is recommended (obviously you can't sleep on a hard pillow with these)
