First off coming to you from an audio engineer standpoint. This test is completely inaccurate.. first off because the microphones in the phone do not cover the entire frequency range IN A FLAT CURVE PLUS OR MINUS A COUPLE OF DB. It drops off dramatically in the low end. So if one of the air conditioners produce more vibrating or low end it's not going to register. You need a proper analyzer that covers the entire frequency range in a flat way to tell. This is why you have to accept what they give you for specifications for the most part because they use it in a special environment with the special expensive tools..

0:07 - Unless you found something rare, the Midea U does not have a heat function. They do make a standard inverter window unit (model MAW12HV1CWT) that is a heat pump. Midea likely uses the same remote across models, which is why the U's remote shows a "heat" mode (but the unit itself does not and makes no mention of such in the manual).

I have both of these, personally I prefer the GE. It's worked great for two years, no drill holes, and it's as quiet as can be. The Midea is fine, too. But it does take up more window than the GE, and you need the frame for it (more installation material required)

Personally, for me, the midea is better overall for my apartment layout. Since the heater is blocking the area where the ge ac needs to be, it doesn’t fit. And the windows with no heaters in front of them are occupied with my bed.

I just bought the GE version before seeing this review, but I have to say it was very worth it. I didn't have to drill a hole in the wall and it's secure as it can be.

This is exactly the test I was looking for, however, I’m a little skeptical that you tested the GE in Eco Mode and the Midea in Cool mode. Could it be possible that the compressor was running lower on the GE while in Eco mode? I like the design of the GE so that the window is more open for light and it looks easier operate the window and keep a modified screen installed as well.

Good catch! I just tested both Eco and Cool mode. There is barely any differences.

I have heard the GE model have circuit board corrosion problems and die after 14 months. Also I think the GE 6 and 8000 but is not inverter technology only the 12,000 GE is.

@@beunbad thanks, I purchased the Midea and it is an unbelievably quiet unit. Could not be happier with it. The connectivity is great too. Have not lost connection once. If my wifi goes out, it reconnects automatically. I have another 12000 btu unit to install this summer in another room.

Any chance for a video on other statistics like cooling ability and cost efficiency? We ended up with the Midea. I like the concept of the downward U with the GE Profile allowing stability and more visible window space above the unit. On the Midea side, we have fairly wide window sills which allow the inside portion to fit closer to the window and doesn't come very far into the room. The Midea apparently has an inverter which somehow eliminates the power surge when starting requirement. With Economy and Auto or Cool, the unit somehow seems to have a mind of its own about how much power to draw, which may be good. So far, the weather has been cool, so tests may not indicate actual performance - but so far I like it. So far volts measured by a meter have varied a lot between 250 volts to 2 volts with lots of stops in between and 100 volts or so on so far relative cool days. Wonder if more efficient to do more cooling at night when cooler with our well insulated home and restrict the cooling some during the day? What I'd really like is a direct current air conditioner (Like the Media) that could in addition to accepting 110 volts through the built in inverter, also accept DC current from batteries charged by solar panels (perhaps not at the same time, but maybe automatically switch to grid if needed) . Seems like inefficient if I run my solar charged batteries through an inverter to change from DC to 110 AC current just to be converted back to DC current by the built in inverter. In the summer in Texas, lots of electricity (and cost) is used for air conditioning. Thanks for the video.

Not an answer but I'm in a similar situation: I'd likely to get the Midea for my garage period due to being available at Costco alone. The Downwards U with the GE is the biggest selling point to me itself. The ease of install is a bit better for a nicer weather tight seal as well. I'll just do a broom stick for the window to stop it from being opened from the outside. The ability to setup some kind of solar panel and battery for the AC unit itself would be an awesome product idea for a different unit. I'd love to have that set up for my garage to reduce some wiring.

Midea is quiet when it works. I did buy two 12000-BTU and they both stopped working after two years. The code said " lost refrigerant" . I contacted midea customer service and they didn't help. Basically, I was told that there is only one warranty even though the user manual states that there is 3 years for the compressor and 5 years for seals. I had to throw it in the garbage. Not a good buy especially when I spent $500 each.

Any chance you can help us test the lowest noise level possible on both of these? So both on sleep mode, with low/quiet fan speed, and for GE both the eco mode and low mode. Thank you!

Hi! I think you could find the test in the last half part of video. I could tell you for the lowest noise level GE is much better. After a noisy night with Midea. I decided to return it and keep GE.

@@gadgetdepotusa9421 Hi. I ended up buying that GE unit, but on quiet + eco mode it is around 48db at the minimum. Was there any tricks to getting it to around 41db? I wonder if the compressor/inverter was on or off during your recording
