I am not a metal hesher, I play classic rock style but just as loud as metal, often at bar gigs. So I got classic Fender 60-70'sd amps with no effects loop on the back. I got one 2005 Marshall dsl 401 combo with effects loop on the back but I never used it yet, still trying to figure this stuff out. I played many years, just got into pedals a few years back and not doing very well with it. I understand music theory, and write and play tons of songs, but this pedal and electronic stuff is so much harder to understand for some reason. So is this pedal any good for loud medium gain classic rock tones, that is not super noisy high gain? I was thinking of getting the ISP G string. Seems odd that some guys say to put it before all pedals even before the tuner. I thought a tuner alway was the first pedal direct from the guitar.
@voidabstraction5 жыл бұрын
I think the issue here is the ISP has 1 knob and all other settings are predetermined for you. The boss's decay is almost set to 0, so thats clearly going to effect it's cut. And the Silencer is just centered, which also isn't really well set. This comparison isn't fair, or well set up. The Silencer and NS should be set up properly before comparing.

Are the pedals hooked up like this, guitar--->pedal-->amp? I hook up the silencer so it is working after the guitar and in the amp's fx loop at the same time (4 cable method). By doing this, I don't have problem the gate cutting of sound unnaturally during clean / soft playing. Plus, it cuts off the tube amp hiss aswell so my rig is dead quiet between rest. Bare in mind that , by hooking up that way (4 cable method) , the setup might introduce additional noise (I think it is ground loop noise). I need to ground lift the cable that going between send and amp's input to solve that additional noise. Besides that, if i use power adapter with the silencer, there will be extra power supply noise, but that might be because of the noisy adapter.

Try this path of Signal Flow, It should help out a Bunch: Guitar into a Tube Pre-Amp, (Please...just Try It, Thank Me Later) Then into the High Gain Pedals, (Compressor, Distortion, EQ and Any other type of Pedal that adds DB Boost to the Signal Flow) into The 1st Noise Gate Pedal (of Your Choice) then into the Front End of your Amp. Remember, The Hotter the Signal into your Amp the More Overall Power Your Amp will Produce. Remember, Less is More, When it comes to Gain, Volume Itself is the Truest Form of Tone, Not Gain, Unless Your Desire is to be a HISS FEEDBACK MONSTER (You'd be Surprised at the amount of Players that Ignore the Obvious Signs, Due to Inexperience) Now that You've Thickened Up Your Tone and Cleaned it Up to be of More Use and Power, Now You can Color things up by Sending the Signal from the Effects Send from the Back of the Amp into Any Pedals that offer Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Flange, Phase, Tremolo...etc, into the 2nd Noise Gate Pedal (Again, Of Your Choice) Return on the Back of your Amp. Due Not add Too Much Threshold or it will Cut the Transcending Decays of the Effects, Remember, Less is More. By using the Effects Send and Return from the Rear End of Your Amp, You'll have More Control of the Wet and Dry Ratio of your signal (Provided You have the Footswitch for Your Amp) I Hope This helps the Players that are Confused or Misinformed about Signal Flow. - JV Fur'tl*i'zer

I am torn about the EHX Silencer and the TC ELECTRONIC NOISE SENTRY. I have owned 2 BOSS NS-2 pedals. The first one was from '88 and the other 2013, when my first one died, I replaced it with another in 2013!.. The newest one has failed me, looks brand new still. I am moving in on. I am thinking the Noise Sentry is great, the EHX is a great price. My NS-2s never worked as good as the one in this video so. Moving on to a new one. Too bad the ISP Decimator II G string is overpriced! I actually found out that my NS-2 failure was due to a problem with another power supply from my mini-pedal board by my mic stand. I have a wah Digitech Drop for my electric signal. I use a TC ELECTRONIC BODY REZ and DOD eq for my piezo, completely different signal only used by my EBMM 7 string and Fender Nashville Tele with Powerbridge. . I solved the issue by removing one pedal from the daisy chain and powering it up separately. No my NS-2 is working right! I do plan to upgrade mine and save the NS-2 as a backup.

Don't search for extremely expensive gates that don't colour your tone, a gate will always change it a tinny bit depending on how it reduces noise bacause when you have a noisy guitar tone noise is a part of the signal and when you get rid of it your tone becomes more pure and will get louder by how mutch the noise the signal looses

Fellows, get the ISP decimator if you want to spend more money on a noise gate if not buy the silencer. I also recommend TC electronic sentry. Don't buy the noise gate. It colors your tone, making it more muddy and it does not kill the noise signal immediately as you stop.
