I made the same modification on my power supply. It is now whisper quiet and doesn’t make the loud noise that it did previously. Well worth the cost and effort.

Glad it worked out for you, I agree it was worth it 👍

Computer fans can be lubed. I learned this trick in my computer repair days. The sticker on the fan can be peeled back to reveal the bearing. Some fans have a rubber plug that also has to be removed. One or two tiny drops of sewing/clipper oil in the bearing hub will quiet the fan like it was brand new.

Good brand fans, and high quality. I've used a few in the past because they are the quietest fans with descent flow. Not so keen on the lack of colour options though. Lol The operation was a success Dr Ape.😁👍

top tip, Now I get to work where we have a whole lab that just prototypes fan blades. But I used to build & maintain pc's 90s-2ks & hated noisy cheap fans. think I used Papst when I could.

That's awesome. This fan was expensive but it it feels batter than any PC type fan I have messed with in the past.

Glad to see that you're repairing the PS. I hate to see so many products being thrown away.

Nice easy fix! My guess is that the cfm from the previous fan and the new one were close to the same. I also take photos of anything before I take it apart, (I need that sometimes for my forgetful mind) but you d have that with the video. Good to breath new life into the PS. 73

I purchased the fan and installed it. BUT!! my MFJ 4225-mv is much older then the one you have, the fan mounts on a piece of angle steel attached to the bottom of the box. It took much longer to get it installed but works fine, and a much less noise, Bruce

Fan issues, I hear that. I was working on what the USCG calls a robot, I have the voice module, the need day the cooling fan started interfering with the module, that came across with voice.

Those vent holes are all too small I think. Any fan is going to be a lot louder when blowing against such a high restriction. Perhaps cut out the sheet metal and install a finger guard there?

Did you check to see if those zip ties were in the same phase relationship as the old ones. A Phasemaster 2000 will check those. Ask the dude at Lowe’s if they have one in stock…lol😢 It’s amazing how fan noise can drive you bonkers after a few bourse at the bench… Frank K4FMH
