Not all lacquers are created equal. Some of the tougher epoxy lacquers are impervious to almost anything while some of the cellulose lacquers can be stripped with hot water! Most are somewhere in the middle and acetone can potentially have an effect. Try testing a small inconspicuous area first and look for flaking or hazing.

Great videos. I used to listen to 2nd ID band while stationed with 1st Tank in Korea. Our barracks were Qhuts. The band had module barracks beside us. Always seemed like a great MOS compared to mine as a 19e30 Tank Commander.

Would you still recommend using nail polish remover on older instruments which don't have lacquer such as 1920s King, or conn models

Could minutiae in cork or whatever else you're using as a bumper affect tuning?

Won't the acetone (nail polish remover) damage the lacquer?

What if the pads themselves are noisy? Does that mean it's time to replace the pads? I'm just doing some recording with my old student model and it's no good with the flapping.

I wouldn't 'be proud' having used perfumed nail polish remover instead of pure acetone.
