The final two stages are dependent on which pickup you grab in the end of stage 5.
@GeneralSirDouglasMcA3 жыл бұрын
Final 1 did this. The stage 5 boss had these blue or red objects you could destroy, and whichever one you destroyed determined which stage 6 (and subsequently stage 7) you went to. On the first playthrough, they weren’t there.

Great review....I am listing my personal review below. I've always been a huge fan of the Gradius series, so R-Type was never really my thing. But besides Gradius V (Treasure can't be beat), this is my favorite shmup in the last 20 years. It's no bullet hell, which is the genre I prefer over any other type of shmup, but it still manages to provide a unique and interesting challenge while staying true to its roots and predecessors. I highly recommend picking this up physically, as most shmups tend to increase in value over time. This is especially true on Nintendo platforms. Just look at Ikaruga on the GameCube, or G-Darius on PS1 for reference. Like this review says, the game does lean heavily on memorization, probably more than it should. This is definitely its weakest aspect, as cheap deaths can be one of the more frustrating components of shmups in general. This is not going to be very forgiving for people new to the genre, so if this is your first attempt at this type of game, I would strongly recommend starting with something like Sine Mora or R-Type Dimensions before you give this one a go. That being said, there is something oddly satisfying that really hooks you once you have gotten a pattern down flawlessly. It's a core component of the game, and while your mileage may vary, how much enjoyment you get out of this is going to be influenced by this aspect more than anything else. In other words, if you like to inflict punishment on yourself over and over before finally overcoming it, then R-type Final 2 is right up your alley. The physical version of this I truly believe will end up being highly collectible, and besides all of that, it's actually a really good shmup on top of it. 8 out of 10 for me I really hope to see more classic series revitalized in this same way.

Fans of bullet-hells hate this series but it's always been my favorite. I hated the demo of Final 2 and even after playing it a bit, I didn't think I liked it very much. It just felt so off-brand and unfinished. BUT, I went back to it recently and that unfinished feeling really only applies to the first three stages for some reason. After that LAAAAME Stage 3, the game picks up and becomes an honest to god R-Type entry and It's a blast.

Don't want to be a dick, but they do give you more continues after you lose your 3 lives in the form if "credits" that allow you to try again from the same checkpoint, but with your score reset. Also id argue that deaths are never cheap. The game very rarely ever done anything that was inconsistent, every death was my fault for not being good enough or for not post attention enough. And as for unlocking ships, it's the most clear thing possible, the only thing hiding it is that you have to go to the "R Museum". But ill agree that the game should have told you that instead of expecting you to go to the menu called "Data & Info"
@maggiejetson79042 жыл бұрын
Coming from the earlier NES R Type and the 90s arcades, this newer graphics using 3D seems to make it worse. I don't like the lighting and color choice and feel that it is made worse going for 3D because of that.
@Fireafyanimations2997 ай бұрын
This game would've been the best in the series if it werent for the egregious amount of paytowin in here, you cant even 100% the game without buying all the dlc. (which, mind you, costs around $53) Not only that but unlocking all the ships is impossible because there are three ships that are exclusive to kickstarter backers who paid $500 during the funding campaign, so unless you are rich and own a time machine, this game is impossible to fully complete.
@MaehDoggie3 жыл бұрын
How do you "beat the game" and not unlock a single ship?! What? You could've probably unlocked a half dozen early ships by beating the game.

The visual design looks really basic and lazy. I love these types of games but this looks dull compared to similar games in the genre. The backgrounds, creatures and bosses look really simplistic, like the artists couldn't be bothered. Saw one level where you shoot at what looks like floating fridge-freezers. The only cool looking bosses were the end boss and the one from R-Type 1. Theyre asking £35 for this game on PlayStation. I wanted the game untill i saw how dull it looked in a playthrough. For me Super Hydorah (2017) was a much more interesting looking game.

I don't like this Copyright FREE R TYPE game. They stole the copyright free name R TYPE. Then you have to beat the game with no weapons to unlock weapons. Then they expect us to replay the game with unlockdd weapons. So you have to work unlocking crap before you can play it like a real arcade game. The graphics look good, but thats all. Rigid Force Redux is a better game, with nothing to unlock, and Rigid Force plays like a real arcade game. At the end of stage 1 on RF my ship is fully equiped with guns, bombs, and special weapons. At the end of level 1 in R Type you're still a weak ship. I hate games that make me work, before I can enjoy them. Then R Type is not a finished game, and Rigid Force Redux is. I hate DLC. I don't buy games with DLC anymore. I don't support bad lazy game devolpers who can't sell a finished product anymore, and want more money for something I already paid for. DLC should be free with purchase or illegal. This game is horrible.
