The best mobile phone ever created. Battery lasted an eternity and the phone was virtually indestructable. You could change the battery, the cover and the key pad. It was simple, effective and affordable for everyone.

Still have 3 of these. All of them still work although a couple of the batteries don't hold a proper charge. I even still use one of them from time to time as a smartphone detox and for the nostalgia. Its quite funny watching people stare at me when I pull it out to answer a text or call. Thankfully I also have a 6310i in my collection that had a better battery and it is a straight fit. I absolutely loved the logic game on my 5146, the idea is to work out the combination of symbols, for instance, face, snake, bowl and waves and then press * to see if you guessed correctly. I would love to see all symbols that were available for each level, sadly my phone won't retain a charge.
@MikeShowsPhones2 жыл бұрын
It still sounds a bit complicated to me. I’m gonna have to spend more time one with it one day to finally crack it. When that happens, I’ll remember to document the symbols and share them with you afterwards. 🙂 By the way - is there any actual difference between the 5110 and the 5146? According to Wikipedia, it was just a carrier-branded variant, supporting the same 900MHz bandwidth…
@SimonBostock2 жыл бұрын
@@MikeShowsPhones I think the easiest comparison would be Wordle, with the symbols representing the letters.

Do you know what the exact signal strength is and do you know if this phone works on the 5G towers I need to know as I'll be going to a remote area where signal strength is hard to come by and where normal phones just don't work thanks
@MikeShowsPhones3 жыл бұрын
I have no exact measures like that. This is a signle-band GSM (2G) device, meaning it will only work in a single frequency in an area where the old GSM networks still operate. Specifically, the 5110 works on 900 MHz. The 5130 variant works on 1800 MHz, which is even less suitable for use in any remote areas.

I haven't looked for a battery myself, but I think the best source of these will be eBay. There's a lot of them being sold there; just check the rating to make sure you're buying one from a reputable seller. The batteries are compatible across many models from the 51xx, 61xx, 62xx, 63xx, 7110 series, so you can adjust your search accordingly.

Well, for sure. It was a budget version of the 6110, to be more exact. But that was also its point; it helped popularise the phone ownership among ordinary people and kids like myself back then; it was our entry into this world. As great as they were, the 8210 and 8850 were absolutely overpriced for what they could do. You’d have paid for the style and the miniaturisation. Of course, if I had made the money I have now, I’d certainly have bought the 8210 myself back then… but tough luck, I was 14. Had to wait a few more years for my first flagship. :-)
