An unboxing and first look at the Nokia CR-201 Wireless Charging Car Holder

Having owned a CR 201 for two years I can honestly review this product. Two days ago the sticky substance that adheres the unit to the window finally failed due to the heat of the sun through the windscreen. From new it did not support a phone as heavy as my Lumia 920 so I had to lower it to the dashboard. The Lumia comes with temperature sensor for the battery so the charger will NOT keep up with the battery power drain if both SATNAV and for example Bluetooth are running. It will charge for a lot longer (max so far two hours) if the air con is blowing directly onto the phone or the car is cold. Say 18 degrees C. I have spent hours talking and email Nokia. They are aware of the issue. Initially I used an Otterbox which with a bit of force, did charge the phone. Eventually it stopped being able to charge through the Otterbox and I had to discard it.I hope that now Microsoft have taken over, a better product will emerge. That said, it wasn't a BAD product. Just not a good one.

Hi Aggelos! you'll need a phone that supports the qi wireless charging standard. some phones come with it inbuilt, like the nokia Lumia 930, while others, you might need to use a wireless charging case, such as the phone I've been using the in the video, the nokia Lumia 1020. then of course there are other phones which do not support wireless charging at all, or use a different wireless charging standard other than the qi format. these phones obviously won't be able to charge via this dock, but you'd still be able to use the dock to hold your phone!

Thanks for a great review ! A quick question : Does the phone charge slowly or is it normal wired charging speeds. I own a Lumia 1520 and was planning to buy the CR-201 which has the weak release issue fixed (from CR-200). Do you know the CR-201 wattage for charging ?

hi kousik! glad you liked the video. anyway, in answer to your question, unfortunately I haven't done any full blown tests, but it seems to me that wireless charging is slightly slower than normal wired charging. but not so much so that it becomes a problem, and I for one use wireless charging both in my car and at home simply because of the convenience.

Kousik Sankar I have a wireless charging stand (DT-910) and yes, it's charging a bit slower - maybe like 20% slower but I can really recommend you a wireless charger. I didn't expect it to be this convenient before I bought it.

the phone in this video is the Lumia 1020. and I believe the 1520 would fit just fine in the cradle
