Try 40khz. Multi frequency good for salt water stability. Modern Canadian clad are iffy on most machines. Higher frequencies hit those coins much better than lower frequencies. Thanks for the vid Liz!!

Very interesting Liz and I'm sure the first ever video I've watched covering all the different type Canadian coins and how the Legend deals with them all. It seems to me that they designed the machine to favour coin shaped items and that the machine is confused when there are other metals, not normally found in most coins from most countries. I'm glad I watched this, it's a real eye opener. Thank you Liz, all the best!

Glad you enjoyed it. I’ve never seen a machine that likes Canadian clad but I will keep experimenting and try to figure out favourable settings.

Greetings Liz!I also bought a Noкta Legend metal detector)Have you tested on single-tone mode?Your coins have some iron content in the composition of the metal, so the Ferro Сheck shows a filled scale of divisions in both the right and left parts. It will be more difficult for you with these coins, especially in a park where there is metal garbage in the ground,with the help of a Ferro Сheck, you can easily identify beer corks because they contain iron and a Ferro Сheck shows a filled scale of divisions when detecting a beer cork in the right and left parts, however, your coins with iron content will also fill the right and left the scale of divisions and you will confuse traffic jams with such coins. The depth of the metal detector depends on the recovery rate, the lower the speed, the greater the depth, but the separation of targets is worse, and vice versa, the higher the recovery rate, the less depth, but the better the separation of targets.This should be set based on the littering of the place. There are a lot of settings as far as I know, at the request of the treasure hunters, Noкta unlocked the manual settings that were previously hidden there, so the metal detector can be very precisely adjusted, but this requires experience, I'm still learning this.

Thanks for the VDI numbers. Love the background colors and the camera was crystal clear. I’ve been using the Legend for relic hunting and the DeusII for water. I just haven’t been going like I did last year because of the heat.

Stay away from multi frequency for canadian coins. VDI's match pulltabs and lots of falsing. 40khz works great

Wow, its amazing how much different Canadian coins ring up on VDI. None of the US coins are bouncy like that. Pretty wild! Best of luck with your new machine!! ✌️

Another point, one should also pay close attention to the sound of the signal and not just rely on the VDI numbers only. For those of us that took up this hobby years ago we find it easier as the machines back then did not have VDI and you had to learn targets by their sounds only. I still hunt by sound today and use the VDI as a second check. You will note a few of those coins tested had VDI's all over the place, however their sound was consistent and repeatable and I would have dug them. Just my thoughts..cheers!

Great point Randy. I agree, some of us do rely on vdi's :) Happy hunting ;)

I’ve found field in M3 works best gives a distinct warble sound that tells you it’s clad use park in 40 as a check, 40 isn’t as deep as multi but works well , when you get a 27/28 ( pull tab )signal check with 40 if it jumps into 40’s good chance it a toonie
@DiggingCanuck Жыл бұрын
Wonderful !!! Thank you for the tip. Warble it is !!!! Seriously appreciate it !!

Im from Newfoundland Canada and i do alot of detecting in swimming areas for jewelry and old silver coins the VDI range is so vast its impossible to determine what your digging but if im gold jewelry hunting on quick hunt i only did targets 11 - 39 with the legend

Sounds like a great strategy. I’ve never detected in NFLD - only PEI

Thank you for such an informative and professionally produced video on Canadian Clad. I am curious about a couple of things... did you try the Legend in single frequency 40Khz or 15Khz mode? Also, with the Simplex Ultra with its fixed 15kHz, how stable are the VDIs on Canadian clad ? I am looking at getting a new machine, and mostly hunt parks for coins. From what I've seen on other posts/videos, single frequency is the best way to go but if I go Simplex I'm at 15kHz whereas with the Legend I could go with fixed 40kHz. But if they are similiar in response, I might as well stick with the Simplex :)
@DiggingCanuck10 ай бұрын
Hey David. When I created the video I did not try it in single frequency on Canadian coin. I have been informed that it will hit when on single. The Ultra loves Canadian clad. It works on 15khz. The signal will be choppy, but after a little while you will be able to identify the choppiness as indicating Canadian clad. If you mainly detect parks for coins than the Ultra is for you. The Legend is the Nokta flagship detector which can be set to single frequency when you are coin hunting. If you don't require all the optional settings, then by all means get the Ultra. I have it and love it for coins :) Let me know what you decide :)

I was going to make this video too, the only problem is I dont have all the pennies, and I dont have a sterling quarter, but I have all the rest I'd be curios if all 1968 nickel dimes ring up as the same as half of them were minted in the states and half in canada
