though I had some problem with sea water It also kzbin.infoUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn

With the Simplex you can manually adjust the Ground Balance setting to zero. This should eliminate the chatter caused by the wet sand 😊👍

Great video! As mentioned in previous comments I have just purchased the Simplex and your video is of great help. Also love the non judgmental way you present. I spent many hours researching before I purchased, and the shop I purchased from said that the Simplex was not good for the beach and tried to sway me towards a more expensive machine. Glad I wasn't swayed and watching some of your videos can see its perfectly adequate for what I want at this stage of my hobby. Cheers, John

@@DTEKTSUSSEX there is a small creek that runs thru town. When they built the railroad here in 1867 the town started for the first time, and most people lived by this creek, today their are several small bridges crossing it and foot bridges. The water is very shallow to waste deep, when it floods it is over your head then. It has many dry islands and grassy benches when it doesn’t flood. I figure it probably has many gold rings and coins in the creek bed, but it is extremely trashy. Would I be wasting my time to try and metal detect it with a simplex plus 11” coil?
@DTEKTSUSSEX Жыл бұрын
You wouldn't be wasting your time at all. An elliptical coil like the SP24 would improve the separation and you'll find more but the stock coil will still do a fine job 👍😊

Very nice video sir, lots of good stuff there. I must admit I personally like to run on the other option of the pre-set 90 balance without adjusting. It seems better on my land, a calmer machine and still with great results, but every place is different. I think Nokta Makro advise using the preset GB and only use manual options if your fields need it, but I could be wrong. Best of luck on your digs buddy. ATB MMMD

I've been detecting for nearly 40 years, so I've done quite a bit of ground balancing in my time and am quite paranoid about doing it right to get the best performance out of any machine but, as a result of testing the GB of the 'plex , I have noticed something very odd ........ Balancing as per the manual and using either Field (my preferred mode) or Park, in order to get a "quiet" machine I need to drop Sens to 6 or even 5 (using firmware v2.78). However, if I don't GB and just use the preset (90) the 'plex is completely quiet at Sens 7. Now, I know from years of experience that running a detector too "hot" can negatively affect depth and sensitivity and that dropping it a bit can be a good thing, making signals clearer and going deeper. BUT I've tested the 'plex using in-ground as-found signals and checked with a specially buried hammered and running at Sens 7 with GB at the preset, the signals are always clearer (and detection depths greater) than if I balance it! This is completely counter-intuitive to me but I've tried it on several sites and the result is always the same! Does anyone have an explanation? FYI, I know the 'plex is working well (with better depth than my V3i) - and I've already hooked a few hammies and numerous other small interesting targets using my unbalanced setup. The only downside seems to be jumpy VDIs which I am happy to accept as I dig everything that doesn't sound like iron (which has taken me a while to get my head around) but I have now sorted this as I have discovered that checking in All Metal stabilises the VDIs nicely. Cheers. Colin.
@DTEKTSUSSEX3 жыл бұрын
Hi Colin, Re. the ground balancing I've had the same experience as you in some areas and the exact opposite in others. It really depends on the makeup of the ground you're detecting on and how much it varies within a small space. The locations you've tried may simply have similar land composition and be consistent across. I tend to re-ground balance on land regularly (sometimes even every 10 mins or so) to keep things as set for the exact conditions as I can. I've found the land I go on to vary quite a bit over short distances. Interesting to think about and hear others' experiences of though! That's one of the great things about this hobby. So many people sharing experiences and adding to the collective knowledge! Good luck and happy hunting for your next trip, Colin! 😃😎👍
@ramasesthedetectorist3 жыл бұрын
@@DTEKTSUSSEX Cheers for the reply..... I've posted a short video on the subject canvassing the opinions of others. It's really weird. I've tried it on various sites here in Suffolk and I always seem to get the same results. I know the 'plex is working well - it is as deep as my old V3i and CS6 and close to my mate's Deus - it hooked me another Henry II cut half the other day! I wonder if NM will add a ground tracking feature to a future software update?
@JamesPound2 жыл бұрын
In my experience you’re right Colin. It’s more stable without using any ground balancing, instead just using the stock setting.

It’s amazing that I had to research a video from Sussex, UK, about how to use my metal detector. Very nicely done. Straight forward, informative, and easy to understand. I’m looking forward to having a great time detecting. One question … what do you do with all of your finds? Do you keep them, sell them, or trade them? I don’t think I’m looking to hunt for “treasure” just to find it a new place, on a shelf, at my house. Again, this is looking to be a hobby for me. The thrill will be in the hunt and the discovery, and not necessarily in becoming a collector. I figure that’s why pictures/videos will be used.
@DTEKTSUSSEX Жыл бұрын
Hi Tom! Thank you for the lovely comments! Glad you found the video helpful. In terms of finds it depends on what it is. Moden coins are either spent or banked. Older or more unusual coins are cleaned and kept in small display discs in a case - so not on show but easy to look through and show to people if needed. Jewellery is kept in a small sealed pot. If I end up with lots of examples of the same kind of thing I'll look to take them to a jewellers to see if they're worth anything. I like to keep at least one or two of each kind of object for testing when a new machine comes along. Nice or meaningful relics like military buttons, bullets, buckles etc. are cleaned and stored in a small box. Anything that's clearly rubbish is thrown away or recycled. Hope that helps! 😊😎👍
