I owned both the At Pro and Simplex+ at the same time. Always found about the same amount of stuff everytime I used them. However the At Pro did find my only 2 half-dimes I've ever found which is probably why I still have it. The Simplex is gone.

The funny thing is I've never found more jewelry and silver than I did with my old at pro. It's actually great at identifying targets in shallow cleaner conditions in pro zero mode. However as we can see above it's clearly lacking in a few areas. If Garrett can ever solve that issue I could see myself going back again. Will they? Doubt it. They appeared to want to take a step in the right direction with the apex but it seems they didn't step far enough. They didn't understand the assignment I guess. I've since gone Legend which is in the same price range at the AT PRO and I'm quite happy with it. Most of my old sites are new again.......other than the ones with shallow targets in clean soil. Those sites still remain clean from my old AT pro days.

Seems both great machines. One thing i don't like from the Xterra pro II is the unstable VDI.

@@petervandenbosch6353 Just Lower the Sensitivity down below 20 Full Sensitivity and it will help out with the X-Terra Pro and it's jumpy VDI and I have mine set at 12 Sensitivity And it's amazing how much it helps me with the X-Terra Pro and NOW when it gets Jumpy VDI it's going to be a Junk Target And it's also going to be Site dependent on the Sensitivity and I have raised it up to 20 but not anything higher than that and so far the X-Terra Pro has been working great for me and the lower sensitivity and the X-Terra Pro is putting out more power than it can handle and Ground Feedback is the the problem, but I don't know of any kind of detector that is going to be able to be at Full Sensitivity without any kind of ground Feedback and who's needs to be able to Dig a hole to China Anyway 🤔 but just lower the Sensitivity down and I have also found a target that was in the 6 inch range and I have kept lowering the Sensitivity down until I lost the target and then I will start raising the sensitivity up until I can hear it and the 12 Sensitivity is what I was at and I have also noticed that if the ground is getting Dry then the jumpy VDI is more powerful than when the ground is moist and holds together when you Dig the plugs and just lower the Sensitivity down and the X-Terra Pro will really help with the Jumpy VDI and it's going to be a Junk Target when you get a Jumper and then the numbers will start to make sense to what you need to dig and what is just junk and that's what is helping me with the Jumpy VDI 👍....... Edit. And I use Park 1 and I have tried the Park 2 And it's totally to Sensitive for me and More Jumpier VDI then Park 1 and I'm also using the Horseshoe Button and that helps with the identification of the Targets and I also use the All Tone's And it's not a Single Tone like that of the Simplex when I was using the All Metal Mode on the Simplex + and it's a Separate Program that you couldn't change it up and Now that the X-Terra Pro is out I bought the X-Terra Pro and I have traded the Simplex to get the Equinox 600 and Minelab Engineering Team really know what they are doing and I shouldn't have been waiting for so long to get a Minelab Detector and the Updates will happen but with the Notka Macro Company they just discontinued the Simplex + as of 2021 and No MORE Updates for the people that still have the Simplex and they're expecting you to come back and buy another Detector but instead I Left it and I'm Happier with the X-Terra Pro and it's Jumpy VDI Problem but the lower sensitivity is really working for me...... ❤️..

Like so many of the guys have noted. Many of us started out on the AT Pro. But that was many many nearly 14 years ago. Back then it was a good detector. But times have changed tech has moved on. I mean how many of us still use a cell phone that's 14 years or more old ? Nokta is pursuing innervation with great value for the customer. As MrBottlecapBill said, I too wish Garret would use some of it's profits for R&D !!! Before it is too late for Garret and they go the way of other tech giants that just didn't keep up.... Thanks C D for your efforts here. Hopefully view points like this will push Garret to get some R&D going!!

Garrett needs to be better in price, when they could dictate a high price it was fine, now we have more affordable options that out perform it. They need to step it up or go the way of whites and tesoro

I'd be curious to see the depth with the Simplex in a park mode vs field. I am impressed with the recovery test in the field mode though. It's obvious the AT pro is old....no ancient news.

Not bad, but I think I like the AT Pro tones slightly better. Less EMI as well. I do like the wireless headphones for the price, but I'd still go AT Pro myself.

The Ultra in combination with the small coil? Didn't know this was an option you can buy standard. Here in Belium you have to buy the smaller coil separately. I do like the combination , thtink it will do verry well in the parcs..

Good morning, for general purpose metal detector (park, field, beach and salty under water search) what detector do you suggest? I do not want to be noisy during search (like the old simplex), to have stable vdi numbers (not like x-terra pro), clear tones, very good separation especially in iron (not like vanquish) and of course to be water proof. Budget max 500$.

I wish Garrett would come out with a kick butt machine. I really do!!! USA made company. If they would keep control box (kinda like Apex) more modern then have great separation, VDI is great, recovery speed & depth. I think they are slowly fizzling out. Who knows? You getting Nokta Double Score to test? They say it’s a step below the Legend & better than Ultra. Just going off what people are saying. I’m sure they will send ya one??

Do tell? Well I i think Garrett is dead. Sad we cant buy an American made machine that will compete. I used one of the Simplex units I purchased for the grandkids last year. It clearly out preformed my old AT Pro both in the test garden and in the field. I think I only paid $289 for those machines. If Garrett dropped a machine right now I wouldn't consider it. I have become one with the D2 and very happy with it. Beep Beep

I wouldn't say Garrett is dead but they sure do need to step up their game. They acquired Whites Electronics a few years back so I'm sure they're not planning on throwing in the towel just yet.

@@brentk4418 maybe but I think the damage is done when it comes to the more advanced detecting community. It is going to be hard to get that loyal customer base back. I believe they have the ability just not the will. They would rather sell the low end units for high profits than invest into new technology. It is all about the commercial side of their business now. Just my opinion

@@MrBottlecapBill And I have found more Than Enough Trash when I was using the Simplex + and NOW that I have the X-Terra Pro,I can walk on and over the Trash Targets and I'm not Carrying it Around and looking for a trash can and like the Simplex always gave me some Great Tone's that wasn't even close to be considered a great target and then it's a JUNK Steel Iron Quarter Tone Targets and I have dug quite a few tons of steel Target's and the original Simplex's are NOW obsolete and it's on the Discontinued Detector List and it's only been 4 years since it was A New Detector And They still haven't heard Or listened to the people that are wanting a new Change of the Tone's and I will go with the Company that is literally listening to the people that are using the Minelabs Detector's and the X-Terra Pro is pretty good for the money that I didn't have to spend to get a Top End Detector of the Single Multiple Frequencies......

@@aussiecoinwhisperer8307 Not on the Simplex + and that's what I was using.... and it's now gone from my possession and Notka Macro Product's will never be used by Me and thanks for the Info 🤔...... and look at the X-Terra Pro if you ever get a chance to and Compare them and I have started to use the All Metal Mode on the X-Terra Pro and 1 Button push And it's a added feature on the X-Terra Pro. AND on the Simplex Ultra and the Simplex + it's a 5 button Push to turn it on and then it's a Single Tone AND Program you have to still dig it up and the X-Terra Pro I can walk on when I hear the Iron Grunts Targets and I don't have Anything that is going to be that old on the Permissions that I have been on yet....... and I love the X-Terra Pro ❤️❤️❤️...
