I've been collecting 1911 pistols since age 16 started when I inherited a orginal Colt 1911,I even have a Ed brown custom,,But my $456 Taurus 1911 from buds guns shoots same hole groups at 30 yards with almost any ammo, and has more custom part's in it than my kimbers,colts and race gun , Taurus in my opinion makes some of the best weapons that us working class people can afford

Recently picked up a second PT1911 and still have both. Taurus has really stepped up their game. The fit and finish is much improved, especially the finish. They also replaced the straight-8 sights with Novak style, 3-dot sights, which I prefer anyway. I have no complaints with either, other than I wish I could still get the Taurus OEM wood grips with the bull. I also have a Ruger SR1911, but I only buy full-size, all steel or all stainless models. I have to admit the build quality of the Ruger is better, but for sometimes $200-$300 less, the Taurus is good to go, particularly, the last year or so.

Great comparison as always. Ruger definitely got this one right. 70 series titanium firing pin, titanium feed ramp and internal extractor just to name a few. It's a modern day "originall" built 1911. I'm actually looking into purchasing one.

Something important to remember. If you ever use your firearm in self defense you may not get it back so a big question for those who intend to actually use their firearms in a self or home defense role, which gun would you rather have confiscated? Recently bought a Taurus 1911 Dual Tone. Really liking it a lot, no issues thus far with it at all. I like the size and feel, great weight that absorbs a bunch of the recoil and kick. Got mine new for $529 I open carry this and a older model Taurus 111 Millenium. The 1911 came with 2 mags made by MecGar, bought 4 more MecGar mags with 2nd Amendment engraved on them, no issues with the MecGar mags.

My Taurus 1911 was brand new when i bought it and the gun was very tight when it was new, but it has since loosened up. Taking it apart the first time was tough, the safety was tight... but now its broken in and perfect. Don't hate... the Taurus PT1911 is a great gun and I personally carry the full sized steel version with no problems. Hasn't had any problems in over 4,000 rounds... It's really personal preference but the Taurus is a great bang for your buck and people need to stop listening so much to what other people say and try different guns to see what they are comfortable with. There is too much shit talk and bullshit these days that influence people to buy something that someone else may prefer... you NEED to be comfortable with YOUR firearm. No matter what it is.... even if it's a glock (which is a popular choice and a great gun)

I have a 9-10 year old PT 1911, pretty stiff when new, no problems since, I bought it to use & carry on hunting, camping trips, stick it under the boat console when we're out on the water, it's been carried around in trucks, boats, on the beach in S. TX, it's got some wear, a few scratches, but I bought it to use, and it's been used, haha. I agree, good gun !

Great to see your comment! I just bought a Stainless Taurus PT 1911 today! I have been playing with it for the better part of the day just getting the feel of the gun. I'll be heading to the range tomorrow. If you don't mind me asking, what type of holster would you recommend? I ordered mine from a local gun store and ended up paying $565.00 for it. Was that a good deal or did I get ripped off? Next, I bought a box of Remington .45 ACP. Is that what you use in your Taurus? Lastly, it's stainless but I would like for it to be a little bit shinier than it is. Is there someone who I can send the gun to that can shine it up a bit or am I just stuck with the dull finish? Thanks in advance if you see this and can respond bro!

I have an SR1911 Lightweight Commander and I love it. It's been my every day carry for almost a year now. It runs on pretty much any ammo I put through it. If you get malfunctions with it, chances are you have a weak magazine spring or an extractor jacked up. Like any gun, when you first buy it and get it home, completely disassemble it and clean off all that sticky crap that they put on the interior parts to keep them from rusting in the warehouse and in transit, etc. Keep it clean and use good magazines ( Like Wilson Combat.) and the SR1911 will run on just about anything. Recoil is a little more obvious but not terrible.
@Ironeyes44407 жыл бұрын
I have the Taurus PT-1911 in polished blue. The only change I made was to add the Wilson combat Shok-Buffs recoil disc. I change them every two thousand rounds or so. They make a distinct difference in felt recoil. Accuracy is similar to yours, so I'm satisfied. I've had mine for several years and have had no issues with it. I didn't try out the Ruger but went with the Taurus because of their quality and price. The proof is in the firing. Your test showed that both can preform well. I have both Taurus and Ruger firearms and have never been disappointed in either.
@Bmitchell622672 жыл бұрын
FTR: I just got a Taurus 1911 9mm, and the trigger is as light as my Beretta APX "match" trigger, but the recoil is like a 22. If your T-1911 trigger is funky, break it in or get someone to block it. The best comparison of recoil and accuracy -- out of the box -- is my Colt 1903 in 32acp.

On Ruger's stainless models they use milled slides and cast frames, which of course is to keep costs down. Taurus however still uses hammer forged slides and frames. Both will hold up just fine for the weekend shooter but for durability you can't beat hammer forged slides and frames.

@chrismc4107 жыл бұрын
sharkinfested I don't know. Ruger frames, especially their revolver frames and metal framed automatic are among the strongest on the market. Strong to the point of there is ammunition marked for "Ruger Only". That says something. Pressure, and frame-damaging wise, .45 ACP is one of the least punishing rounds out there. 23,000 PSI even with +P loads as opposed to 35,000+ of 9mm, .40, 10mm, .357 Magnum, .44 Magnum and up to 65,000 PSI for .454 Casull. If a Ruger casting can handle all that with consistent use with their appropriate platforms without a problem, I'd say and the industry says their casting's strength are just as good as forged if not better.
@Tro10866 жыл бұрын
What do you think they "mill" the slide out of? Im gona guess a "forged" steel blank... Taurus isnt hammer forging slides and frames down to their final spec. Forging just means a steel BLANK is forged rather than cast, and then it is milled down to its shape/size. You can cast or forge a blank, either way it usually takes some milling to get it to final shape. Yes forging is generally better, but Ruger is extremely good at casting very strong durable parts.

I meant to use it when I bought it. And I have. No complaints at all. I am a fan of the Ruger brand though, mostly single actions.

I own the taurus pt1911 and I love it. I've owned many Colts, and cheap .45's, but for the money, it's a great shooter 1 inch groups @ 15 yards and 2 1/4" at 25 yards with its favorite ammo. It comes with a lifetime warranty! Very accurate and very manageable recoil. Add a set of pachmayr finger groove rubber grips and load it up. It's a gun you can toss into the floorboard of your truck to take to the range or woods without fear of scratching your $1500-$2000 Colt or kimber .45. I also own a taurus model 85 stainless. .38 which is a great little gun as well.

Everyone should understand that you are comparing a $500 Taurus to a $700+ Ruger and that shows up in some areas such as the heavier trigger pull and the tight safety function. Taurus seems to have fixed the quality issues they had from years ago and are now producing some of the "Best Value" pistols out there. If you are wanting 1911 style pistol for weekend plinking and target shooting, perhaps the Taurus is a way to do that without breaking the bank.
@HawksEye5566 жыл бұрын
I agree. I've owned more than a few 1911 from different manufacturers and this conception that if you're paying any less than $700 for a 1911 all you got was garbage, in my opinion those people are clearly uneducated and more than likely they're Fanboys of a certain brand IE Ruger Smith & Wesson etc. Point is yes Taurus has spotty QC does it matter? No not really because their warranty is there in case you do get a lemon. And the dirty secret is outside of the$3,000 Nighthawks every company can put out a turd every once in awhile.

I think the old timers need to wake up about Taurus. There have been lots of changes at the company. First off, it's the same owership but new management. Some models are currently being built in Florida and they are underway at their brand new manufacturing facility in Georgia. The G2C is by far the best buy in a 9mm hadgun with absolutley no reliabilty problems and some of the best ergonomics and features availble. I use to own a S&W M&P Shield. The first time I ever handled the G2C I had the worst case of buyers remorse ever. For me, the Taurus beats the S&W to death. I still don't own a Taurus but I have a lot of respect for what they are doing today. They have a program to tighten up the specs on all of their existing models, improve the finishes and quality of their current weapons and as somebody pointed out earlier their 1911 was just gone through and re-released in January, 2019.

The Taurus is definitely made with cheaper parts. I needed a decent amount of gun blue when I bought mine and even turned one down in the store because of a 1/2" blemish on the front of the slide, nevertheless the one I ended up buying had a few small spots I had missed in the store. Those small blemishes are a symptom of being more cheaply made and sitting in piles and in boxes without dividers between the parts, definitely a characteristic of a more cheaply assembled gun. I had a bullet jam once in each of my first two magazines but after that I have had no issues. Probably just had to break it in some. For $500 It's a great range gun, definitely not as decorative as a kimber but its a good gun to shoot. Replace the grips like he did and its still a pretty gun. But if you're going to do that make sure you get some made especially for the Taurus 1911 because the right side grip has a different cut due to their safety system that is unique to the Taurus. I've had no issues with the beavertail being difficult to engage and my trigger hasn't bothered me at all, I think his may be on the heavy side. I shot today and I'd bet money that my Glock 19 has a heavier trigger than my Taurus 1911. overall you're getting a range gun not a show piece with the Taurus but I really enjoy shooting mine and for $500 it's a pretty neat gun imo.

Good evening to ya guys. Well, I've never shot the Ruger or the shorter barreled commander model but I "do" currently own a Taurus PT1911 with the 5 inch barrel and I have to admit that I really like this weapon. It's a straight shooter all day long. My trigger pull is just about 4.5 lbs which I've been told is a good weight for an every day carry piece. One thing I "did" notice though is that the safety does tend to stick a little. Now if I'm shooting it right handed style then the safety seems to work just fine but when I'm shooting it left handed then the safety tends to be a bit stiff. For now I've only put about 500 rounds thru my Taurus and it has never jammed which I find fascinating being I bought it brand new and it wasn't broken in yet. All in all I like the Taurus just fine. The only mods I've done to it are (1)I put on a set of Tritium night sights on it and (2) I purchased an after market magnetic lazer that just snaps right on to the bottom of the weapon in front of the trigger guard. With that lazer on my Taurus then my groupings are very tight!

Not a Taurus hater, although I don't care for the 80 series trigger. But, the Ruger is twice gun. Unfortunately, it also costs almost twice as much. Loved the one I had. The same as whats he's showing, wish I hadn't sold it. Ideal conceal carry. 28 oz.

I don't believe you mentioned anything in the video about the full length guide rod on the Ruger. They come from the factory with the GI style guide rod. Just curious, what made you change that?
@NolanOutdoors8 жыл бұрын
+TennesseeMatt I talked to the owner of the pistol and he didn't think it's been changed so I'm not really sure. If I find out any other info about it I'll will let you know.

Cool! I know the Ruger lightweight commander I had came with the GI style guide rod. My friend also has the all steel Ruger 1911 commander and his has the GI guide rod.

I have a number of 1911s, to include a Taurus. I have no problem with it. Mind you, I have a RIA TacOps 2 that is my CCW, and I rang steel with it regularly at 50 yds. RIA is some REALLY good machinery.

owning both of these guns I have to say the Taurus I like better. Out of the box the Rugers windage was off 4" at 15 yards the taurus i was hitting 4" clay pidgins @ 50 yds very solid gun, also the Ruger is way more snappy

I have 2 1911's one is a Kimber carry model from way back and the other is a Norinco full sized 1911. Both shoot great but alas with 45 acp ammo being pricey i have gone to 9mm or the 38. I have the taurus c2 in 9mm and the taurus 856 in 38. both shoot great and were easy on the wallet.

An American made gun with outstanding customer service, or a gun made in the third world with notoriously bad customer service? That's a hard choice lol. Being something of a cheapskate, I've had a few Taurus's, and the quality is a crapshoot. And God help you if you ever need to send it back, it'll take so long for them to return it you'll forget you sent it off. That said, my edc is a PT111 G2C. It's been dead nuts reliable so far, but if something ever fails, I wouldn't bother sending it back to the mothership. It was so cheap it's practically disposable.

I'll be buying the Taurus for sure. Test fired both at the range and the Taurus just felt better. Trigger pull, weight, and recoil were all better and I love the ambidextrous safety. I prefer a handgun with some weight to it also. I already own a Taurus .40 so why not a .45 ACP? Ruger was way too light for me and it felt like that trigger traveled for days, Springfield was not far off of the Ruger and Kimber is an overpriced piece of trash. These Taurus haters are fucking snobs....probably have iPhones too right guys??? They hear a name and they immediately think it's better. Fire the gun before you fire your mouths boys.

No comparison. Ruger is twice the 1911 in my opinion. Ruger hit it out of the park with the sr1911.

I like both gun's, but I like the shorter barrel gun better. I think they both are good gun's, the Taurus being quite a bit cheaper is the better deal, but the Ruger has a better beavertail on it and I like the trigger better. My RI has both of those qualities and is also a bit cheaper. I prefer the 10mm to the .45 ACP though. I would be fine with either gun, but I like the Ruger a little more.

Love the look and Feel of Ruger.. And good for 50 yards. If I'm shooting farther than that I'll use a Rifle.

You put a full length guide rod in the Ruger?
@kyklain866 жыл бұрын
Yeah I saw that too. Wonder what the purpose is?
@kevinfick72286 жыл бұрын
Kyron Klain I truly don’t think there’s any added value to a full length guide rod, gonna change the one out on my kimber just makes disassembly more difficult
@kyklain866 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Some of the Springfield 1911 Loaded models have the full length guide rod and I hear people get more problems with them. I have the same Ruger Lightweight Commander 1911 45acp and it didn't come with the guide rod. I'd rather have the bushing when disassembling. But still no issues with my 1911.

Note the slide serrations on the Taurus are so far forward, it makes them purely cosmetic. If you were to use them a finger would cross the muzzle at the very least. Best to cock it from the rear, and since this is how we are all trained, it should be normal procedure.

Why didn't you compare like pistols?
@HazeAroundtheWorld6 жыл бұрын
+Cephas Martin Umm, he did? Also, not all things you compare have to be similar. Sometimes it's useful to compare unlike things

Will all 1911 grips basically fit all 1911's? I've seen one Browning 1911 with a different grip design. Will those Ruger grips bolt up to that Taurus 1911?
@brianfalls58944 жыл бұрын
Photographer, I believe you can use the Ruger grips on your Taurus but what you will most likely have to do is a little trimming on the right grip where the ambi safety is at. I put on an aftermarket set of grips on my own Taurus and that's all I had to do.
