Great series! I think that Buffalo NY has some great munis -Elma Meadows, South Park, Delaware Park, and Grover Cleveland - home of the 1913 US Open - and public courses. Plus a decent amount of cheap micro breweries and awesome chicken wings. Could definitely do the whole trip under $500
