@@vheissumusic I guess those are terms used in the amp world so i don't quite understand. But from the electronics perspective you can create active and passive low pass filters and I think what you are eluding to, and please correct me if i'm wrong, is that the active tone stack is a low pass filter with a variable output level, presumably mixed back together with the other channels in an additive fashion. This would imply you could control both the output dBs as well as the gain crossover frequency. (however they hardly ever give you control over crossover frequency, would be cool to have an actual parametric eq on my amp though, but everyone does that in their DAWs now days) Passive filtering is subtractive control, so the only control they provide is shifting the gain crossover frequency on a high pass filter.

The preset "Jam Your Heart Out" indeed sounds much darker than what we are hearing in this video. I copied the same settings using FabFilter ProQ3 and FabFilter MB at around 130 hz same as is shown here. The most important part is what he briefly mentions after he talks about the two additional plugins. "And that's all the processing that's going on APART FROM MY MASTERING SETTINGS ON THE TRACK". This is where (in my opinion) is the slight deception... buy this plugin so you can sound like this but you have to have these two additional plugins along with (possibly more than one) mastering plugin. Mastering can play a huge part in your overall tone, especially if you use something like a Maximizer.
@pubertbucefalus17953 жыл бұрын
If you look on the bottom left you can see he has processing on his instrument buss too. Theres a good chance that some eq is going on here as well, as he is using Slates Virtual Mix Rack and then Slates FG-Grey Buss Compressor. Unfortunately theres no settings etc and these plugins have so many options to them I doubt you can recreate it

I admit I was unfamiliar with Nolly. I got turned on to the Archetypes series because Tim Henson developed one. My music is influenced heavily by Prince's tones and I thought Tim's plugin might lend to that funky rock fusion style. Then Rabea Massaad featured the Petrucci Archetype is an Artist in the presets and had to try it. Did the trial for both and I was impressed, but I still preferred my HeadRush. Not convinced enough to buy. Then I ran across Nolly's tune on the his promo. So I decided to try one more plugin. Nolly's plugin just blew me away. The cleans I found... I developed a funky crunchy tone so easily and then a saturated rhythm tone before I even found the presets. This is definitely going to be one I buy. Now I have to go and discover Nolly's music. Neural DSP knocks it out of the park. I think I identify with Nolly's sound design somehow. Great work man.

Im really glad you said you used a multi-band compressor. I felt like I was cheating recently using one on my latest tone attempt. So happy with it though it really worked. I hated trying to cut out the low end too much just cos some frets resonated too much on the 6th string but prob solved.
@jayl59414 жыл бұрын
Do you have any general settings you use for guitar tones like these? I need to try using one myself soon.
@tedats4 жыл бұрын
@@jayl5941 I dunno if I'm a good person to ask lol but here's some thoughts: When making the tone use new strings. World's best guitar tone will sound bad with like even 2 week old ones. Im not saying change ur strings everyday but just remember when ur tone chasing, it's night and day with new and old strings. I'm still working on anything after that haha. The impulse response for cabs to me is like guitar specific reverb. Picking a cab and adjusting early reflections on it to me is up there with important stuff. Great amp isn't doing much without a cab to make it sound right is all I mean. For the actual amp: the rest to me it's so infinite and annoying lol. I am always aiming for whatever amount of distortion stops it sounding weak but not much more. A bit more tho lol. Picking hard too. If you don't pick hard its like turning down the vol and the distortion won't react as much. Oh! New strings are so loud I shld also say! Another gd reason for new strings. Just realising this cld turn into a book so I'll stop 🤣 hope that helps somehow

Crap I just realised u meant the multiband specifically. I stopped using it after a dif cab gave me better sound without the issues I was having at that time lol also, I just fk about tbh so I wldn't take my advice on compressors haha. I set the threshold just a couple dB below the highest peaks, low ratio like 1.2, fast attack maybe 1ms? Release at like 80. Every time I'm messing with compressors this is the settings I keep Ending up with. That cld be world worst advice ever

So I've used the Jam Your Heart Out preset - and in my project it all sounds very muffled compared to Nolly's sound. On the schecter (c1+) there are 'duncan designed' so ....
@issacv.30354 жыл бұрын
Dude, me and a few friends are having the same problem. Can't seem to find any info on it. Using a DI box helped but it still is not nearly as articulate as it is in this video. Have you tried using the instrument switch on the scarlett? I found out when I had one that if I turned it on it lets more highs in and sounds more articulate. I would be shocked if pickups made that big a difference but I guess it could be.
@johannsoncrusoe55894 жыл бұрын
I find that I need pretty high output pickups to be the best for tracking guitars. They do not need to be the super expensive ones. my gibson les paul studio is giving me great sounds for example. Compared to some other guitars it wins. But input and gain as well as master and output on ampsims do a lot on your tone as well. I find those parametres different in comparison to real amps. Try to use less gain maybe.
