Thanks for the video. And the comments it good to see the different approaches. My issue is trying to determine the thickness of the shell. It’s seems I’m missing something with the units.

Hi. How about if you draw a mask on the sphere. In the mask settings, the Shell - Thickness parameter is set to negative. Then at the bottom of this menu turn on Shell in Closing action - then press Split. - Then you will get both the holes in the sphere and the thickness. I don't know if this is the best way - but I do it this way.

Of course, you can also split in the mask menu, but then you lose the original mesh with the mask. If you only extract the mask, you will get a 2. Mesh with the cut out areas and keep your original mesh. But the result is completely the same. I prefer to keep the original mesh, because then I can extract even more areas. And I always try to keep the mesh 2D flat as long as possible. So I don't give the mesh a shell thickness until I've completed all Trim / Move / Sculpt operations. So you never get problems with the shell.
