This excellent video helps explain the new Quad Remesher and its connection to Face Groups. (Add on price is so worth it) It is a definite step toward tools like ZBrush's ZRemesher and Polygroups. Near the end of this video, it shows the protection of the boundary edge maintained like a Crease tool. And the ability to add Edge Loops a move very much toward ZModeler functionality. So the Imagine being able to select Edges and crease or bevel with a radius. Defintely a huge step forward. Hard Modeling is not the only world to benefit. The ability to maintain smooth geometry with lower sub-divisions and selective creased or soft edges is so much better than what we get with Clay tools.

Hey KrazyRobot. Can you tell me more about your issue? Is it not letting you mask unique patch colors?
@KrazyRobot6 ай бұрын
@@making-things it is! imagine a workflow where you're using TONS of patches / facegroups on the same object, constantly quad remeshing twice to get the super perfect topology as shown in your video here. every time you quad remesh though, the previous topology is going to get adjusted / smoothed out and you'll lose some of those perfect crisp lines that feel only possible using this method to begin with. ideally theres some way to protect previous facegroups from these effects while still gaining the benefits of the QR. sorry for the long explanation!

This is such a great update and a little bit problem with glitchy topology but I fixed that something got switched on that should have been switched off vice versa.

@@making-things For some reason I can't post here. This is my second attempt. I just uploaded a video on the solution on my channel.
oh now I can post responses. KZbin being a little glitchy. Basically make sure that FRONT FACING VERTEX ONLY in the FILTER MENU is turned OFF. and TWO SIDED is turned ON in the DISPLAY SETTINGS MENU. Hope that helps.

Ok. I understood most things discussed here.. but... @12:58 why did the smoothing *only* affect the. Top edge? I'm not sure i follow... The result is great though.. as someone who has used Shaper3d a lot (and who hard aurface models more than sculpts), i finely l definitely appreciate the distinct/clean edges. I guess it's an aesthetic look at this point... The clean edge contrast with the smooth curve. ...you see it in manufactured objects a lot. Most obviously in car bodywork.
@making-things6 ай бұрын
The only difference maker was turning Sticky Vertex on Border from Auto to On. It treats the Face Group region as a mask, except that the Face Group selection is sharper than a mask. I don’t know if I’ve answered your question. Let me know. I am still figuring this out myself.

This is gonna sound dumb. I haven’t seen anybody edit the face group. How do you erase and fine-tune the edge? Like a reverse brush.
@making-things6 ай бұрын
The way that I have done it is that I use the base color, so in my video I chose white as my starting color, then chose a blue for my second patch color. So when I need to erase, I open up my patch color menu and choose white to erase the blue. I know what you mean, I felt like I might be doing a hack with my method, but it works. Hope that helps.
@making-things6 ай бұрын
If that wasn't clear, in my example, i had white and blue as my colors. I use the dot brush with white to paint away the blue, and blue to paint away the white. I feel like I'm explaining this terribly.
@nicksonjeremia2659Ай бұрын
maybe also look at it in form of color coding/color grouping blue red white for different groups if you want to move a face to another group you paint it with a color that reprents that group.

I tried to organize the faces of the group into several groups. and in masks it does not understand when to select one group as a mask and make changes. Looks like that usles to organize all group before changing. Still feels like you have only single mask. . There is also convert button . what does convert do? I still don't understand.
@making-things6 ай бұрын
Convert turns a face group into a mask. There is some crossover in the mask and Face Group tools. I didn't do a great job of explaining the full power of Face Groups, and to be honest, I haven't figured them all out. I will need to provide a more in depth tutorial, but I do promise that Face Groups can be very handy.
